The Clarksville Panther baseball team earned two wins last week, defeating Waldron and Scranton before falling to Dardanelle in the conference season closer.
Waldron
The Panthers earned a 6-5 victory over the Waldron Bulldogs on the road Tuesday, April 21.
The score was tied 1-1 after the first inning, and Waldron scored a run in the bottom of the second to move into the lead. Both teams crossed the plate one time in the third inning to keep the Bulldogs at a one-run advantage, 3-2. The Panthers evened the score in the top of fifth, but Waldron answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.
Clarksville rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning and held the Bulldogs scoreless in the seventh to secure the win.
The Panthers tallied five hits on the night. Landyn Small went two-for-three, while Aiden Hern and Jorge Nieto each had one hit in two at-bats. Jalen Floyd recorded one hit in three plate appearances.
Jayden Kremers earned the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs and striking out six batters over six innings. Hern slammed the door on Waldron in the seventh inning, striking out two batters and allowing no hits or runs to pick up the save.
Scranton
Clarksville defeated Scranton 4-3 in nonconference action on Wednesday, as the Panthers observed Senior Night.
The Panthers got on the board in the first inning after Floyd doubled, scoring two runs. A single helped Scranton tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third.
Clarksville took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when a Scranton error scored one run. The Panthers had one runner score in the fifth inning to stretch their lead to 4-2. The Rockets managed one run in the top of the seventh, but CHS prevented any additional runs to secure the win.
Cain Archer stepped on the mound first for Clarksville, allowing no hits and one run over one and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one. Hern, Floyd, and Anthony Martinez each appeared in relief. Hern allowed one hit and struck out one batter in two-thirds of an inning. Floyd pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing one earned run and two hits while striking out three batters and walking two. Martinez gave up four hits and one earned run while striking out three Rockets in two innings.
Floyd went one-for-three at the plate with a double and led the team with one RBI. Hern and Martinez each collected one hit. Martinez stole two bases, and Hern stole one.
Dardanelle
The Panthers had trouble keeping up with Dardanelle in an 11-1 loss on Thursday, April 23.
Dardanelle opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with three runs. Clarksville scored one run in the top of the fourth but allowed another run by the Sand Lizards in the bottom of the inning. Dardanelle added three runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth.
Hern, Floyd, Small, and Isaias Tejada each collected one hit, with Hern’s and Tejada’s hits both doubles. Archer stole one base.
Hern started the game on the mound, allowing six hits and seven runs, including two earned, over four and one-third innings, striking out one and walking two. Archer was on the mound one inning. He gave up four hits and four earned runs and walked two batters.
