After Loss To Bigelow, Lady Warriors Take Two Conference Wins

The Lamar Lady Warriors improved to 18-3 on the season last week, rebounding from a loss to Bigelow by taking wins over Charleston and Cossatot River.
Bigelow
The Lady Warriors’ effort to come back from a five-run deficit in the fourth inning came up just short, as they fell 5-4 to Bigelow on Monday, April 13.
Lamar closed the gap by scoring on a walk, a solo home run, and an error.
Bigelow opened the scoring in the first inning by scoring one run and added four more in the bottom of the fourth inning to hold a 5-0 advantage. The Lady Warriors scored one run in the fifth inning, then made the score 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning when Addie Hardin hit a solo home run to left field, and an error scored two runs.
Newt Melton took the loss in the circle for Lamar, pitching four innings and giving up five runs on five hits, striking out three and walking none. Mylee Parker pitched two innings. She allowed one hit and struck out four batters.
The Lady Warriors lost despite out-hitting Bigelow 8-6.
Nevaeh Danver had two hits, including a triple, in four at-bats and scored a run. Melton also had two hits in four at-bats.
Hardin went one-for-two at the plate and had one RBI. Mayci Hilton had one hit, a double, in three at-bats and scored a run. Shae Shook and Avery Phillips each recorded one hit.
Hilton and Melton each stole one base.
Charleston
Lamar defeated the Charleston Lady Tigers 5-3 on Tuesday, April 14.
A double put Charleston on the board in the top of the first, but in the bottom of the inning, Parker doubled to right field helping the Lady Warriors tie the game. The Lady Tigers moved back into the lead with a run in the top of the third before Lamar took a 5-2 advantage in the bottom of the fifth thanks to singles by Hilton and Tenley Hardin.
The Lady Warriors accumulated 10 hits in the game.
Parker and Hilton each had two hits, including one double each, in four at-bats, scored a run and drove in a run. Phillips went two-for-two at the plate and scored a run, while Shook had two hits in three at-bats.
Melton had one hit in four at-bats and scored a run. Tenley Hardin was one-for-three at the plate and drove in a run. Danver crossed the plate one time.
Parker earned the win for Lamar. She gave up eight hits and three runs, one of which was earned, over seven innings, striking out nine.
Cossatot River
Danver collected three hits in four at-bats, as the Lady Warriors defeated the Cossatot River Lady Eagles 17-0 on Friday, April 17.
Danver singled in the first inning, and hit a single and a triple in the fourth inning.
Lamar scored 10 runs in the fourth inning on the way to victory. Phillips doubled and Melton singled, each scoring two runs. Singles by Danver and Shayleigh Palmer also scored two runs each. Shook drew a walk, scoring one run, and Phillips drew a walk, to send another run home.
The Lady Warriors opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two errors, and an error, a double by Shook, and a single by Melton helped Lamar extend the early lead in the third.
Parker earned the win. She gave up one hit and no runs over four innings, striking out eight.
The Lady Warriors recorded 11 hits in the game.
Melton led in RBIs with three as she went two-for-five on the day. Parker, Hilton, Addie Hardin, Palmer, Shook and Phillips each had one hit. Danver and Palmer each drove in two runs, and Shook and Phillips drove in one apiece.
Phillips swiped two bases, while Addie Hardin, Danver and Palmer each stole one.
