Public Meeting About Data Center Set For July 13
LOCAL GOVERNMENT COVERAGE – DATA CENTER
A public meeting aimed at providing information about the proposed data center project in Clarksville will be held Monday, July 13, at the Walton Fine Arts Center on the University of the Ozarks campus.
The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m., or immediately following the Clarksville City Council meeting and two public hearings on proposed bond issues tied to the project.
Organizers said the forum is intended to provide the public with factual information about the data center or data centers being developed in the community. Individuals involved in the project and approval process have been asked to serve on a panel to respond to citizen questions, with Gail Choate, executive director of Arkansas Civic Action Network, serving as moderator.
Questions submitted by residents have been compiled and will be presented to the panel. Panel members will receive the questions in advance. Only questions submitted by the deadline will be addressed during the meeting, and neither questions nor comments will be taken from the audience. Organizers said the structure is intended to ensure responses are prepared ahead of time and the discussion remains focused.
Residents were invited to submit questions by email or in writing by Monday, June 29. The compiled list was provided to The Graphic by group organizers and includes concerns ranging from water and electricity use and infrastructure capacity, to financial arrangements, public health and safety protections, environmental impacts, and transparency in the approval and contracting process.
