Lady Warriors Win Over Hackett, Scranton

The Lamar Lady Warrior softball team earned wins over Hackett and Scranton last week as they prepare for the 3A-4 District Tournament at Lavaca this week.

Hackett

Mayci Hilton drove in four runs on two hits to lead Lamar past the Hackett Lady Hornets 11-0 on Tuesday, April 21.

Hilton hit a home run to center field in the fourth inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the first inning, scoring one.

Lamar got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Hilton’s single. An error then scored three runs, and Shae Shook singled to score another.

The Lady Warriors added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Hilton grounded out, and Nevaeh Danver walked, each scoring one run.

Four more Lady Warriors crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 11-0. Hilton’s home run and an error by Hackett each scored two runs.

Mylee Parker earned the win for Lamar. The starter surrendered one hit and no runs over five innings, striking out six and walking none.

Newt Melton, Hilton, Parker, and Shook each collected two hits for the Lady Warriors. Addie Hardin had one hit on the night.

Parker and Tenley Hardin each stole two bases, and Hilton swiped one.

Scranton

Lamar was victorious against the Scranton Lady Rockets 6-3 on Thursday, April 23.

The Lady Warriors were the first to get on the board when Shayleigh Palmer doubled in the fourth inning, scoring one run. They scored another run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run to left field by Newt Melton, and four Lamar players crossed the plate in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 6-0.

Scranton managed three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Mackenzie Croft, Brecken Mainer and Emey Pierce each scored one run.

Parker earned the win in the circle for Lamar. She gave up five hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out eight and allowing no walks.

Mainer took the loss for the Lady Rockets. She was in the circle six innings, allowing six runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits, striking out five and walking four.

Melton led Lamar with two RBIs, going one-for-three on the day. Palmer led in hits with two in three at-bats. She also drove in one run. Parker, Danver, Tenley Hardin and Shook each had one hit. Shook also drove in a run.

Zoey Green led Scranton with two RBIs from the number eight spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went two-for-three on the day.
