Argus Lee Childers


Argus Lee Childers, 65, of Lamar died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Lamar, son of the late Claude and Macie Selby Childers, 1952 graduate of Lamar High School, Army veteran of the Korean War, member of the labor union, and was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Childers.

He is survived by four sisters, Helen Bouchard of Clarksville, Susie Francis of Orlando, Fla., Gail Neuman of Van Buren, and Donna Jackson of Alma; and five brothers, Kenneth Childers of Clarksville, Carl Childers of Richmond, Calif., William Childers of Van Buren, and James Childers and Duane Childers, both of Lamar.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Thomas Chenowith officiating. Burial will be in Lamar Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Campbell, John Buffington, Selby Brown, Glen Chavers, Larry Selby, and David Clayborn.

Mrs. Bobbye A. Elkins


Funeral for Mrs. Bobbye A. Elkins, 70, of Van Buren who died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in a nursing home, was at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery north of Clarksville.

Pallbearers were Johnny Hardcastle, Kevin Hardcastle, Wally Titsworth, David Lassiter, Jeff Resimont, and Ray Titsworth.

She was a Methodist and a retired food supervisor for the Van Buren Public Schools.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Elkins; two sons, Tim Elkins and Mark Elkins, both of Van Buren; one sister, Vivian Bacom of Monroe, N. C.; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Pearl Yarbrough


Mrs. Pearl M. Yarbrough, 88, of Clarksville died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Shaffer Nursing Home in Ozark.

She was a native of Madison County, daughter of the late Ewing I. and Myrtle Whorton Stamps, a Baptist, and was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Phillips; and two brothers, Earl Stamps and Paul Stamps.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Yarbrough; four daughters and sons-in-law, Aleta and David Mullins of Texarkana, Olene and Ken Angle of St. Louis, Mo., and Sharon and Ron Hicks and Loeta and Tommy Venable, all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five sons and daughters-in-law, Cletus and Barbara Yarbrough of Winston, Ore., Curtis and Earleene Yarbrough of Dover, Clois and Erma Yarbrough of Dover, Okla., and Olen and Johnnie Yarbrough and Jerry and Lucy Yarbrough, all of Clarksville; three sisters, Dorothy Tuck and Lorene Acord, both of Brawley, Calif., and Irene Houston of Clarksville; three brothers, Claude Stamps of Brawley, Calif., E. J. Stamps of Woodland, Calif., and Clinton Stamps of Vallejo, Calif.; 31 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Willis officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Levi Willis, John Magby, Carroll Sherrell, Mike Jacobs, Tommy Warren, Phillip Tedford, and Ken Smithee.

Mrs. Rosemary Erlandson


Mrs. Rosemary Shelton Erlandson, 61, of Clarksville died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at her home.

She was a native of Columbia, Tenn., former resident of Little Rock, attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, was the widow of Ray S. Erlandson Jr., and a former resident of Texas, where she owned and operated an antique business. In 1985, she retired and moved to Clarksville where she was a member of the Clarksville Country Club, Ladies Golf Association, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Grace Circle and Meals on Wheels program.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Tom Anderson of Martinez, Calif., and Lynda and Davy Gray of Spiro, Okla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Elizabeth Bjorklund of Landcaster, Calif.; one brother, Cecil Byron Shelton Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandchildren, Kendall Anderson of Martinez, Calif., and Shayd Gray of Spiro, Okla.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Mrs. Verna L. Bynum


Mrs. Verna L. Bynum, 85, of Van Buren died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Van Buren.

She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late William P. and Laura Taylor Self, and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in North Little Rock.

She is survived by two daughters, Hope Diffee of Maumelle and Sue Gill of Van Buren; and four grandchildren, Amber Laura Gill of Van Buren, John Wesley Noble of Maumelle, and Scott Diffee and Mark Diffee, both of Little Rock.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Raymond Laster, George Brown, Bill Coulter, Ralph Bynum, Eddie Diffee, and John Wesley Noble.

Vance V. Caldwell


Vance V. Caldwell, 73, of Clarksville died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

A native of Hot Springs, he was a son of the late Emerson and Ella Kenner Caldwell, member of Mountain Valley Baptist Church in Hot Springs, Army veteran of World War II, and a retired Reynolds Metal Company employee.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nelda Dunlap Caldwell; two daugh-
ters, Dana Anglin of Clarksville and Sheila Lambert of Benton; one son, Mike Caldwell of Clarksville; and seven grandchildren, Matthew Caldwell, Lucas Caldwell, Leigha Young and Tessa Anglin, all of Clarksville, and Robyn Calley, Tyler Lambert and Cody Green, all of Benton.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, July 3, at the Mount Vernon Cemetery with Rev. Curtis Stillwell officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hard-
wicke Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Roy Caldwell, Archie Nelson, Kenneth Caldwell, Matthew Caldwell, Lucas Caldwell, Tyler Lambert, and Cody Green.
