LOCAL GOVERNMENT COVERAGE – LAMAR CITY COUNCIL
The Lamar City Council held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 14, and welcomed new alderman, Josh Jones.
Jones was appointed by Mayor Jerry Boen to fill the vacancy left following the resignation of Jodi Pearson from the Council. Jones will serve the remainder of Pearson’s term.
Pearson was appointed to the Council in August 2023 to fulfill the remainder of Wilson Overbey’s term, following Overbey’s resignation. Pearson submitted her resignation in June after moving out of the city.
The Council heard reports from various city departments.
The next scheduled event will be the Trick or Treat Trail, which is slated for Saturday, Oct. 24. It was also reported city staff members have trimmed tree limbs and sprayed at the city park and ball fields.
Fire Chief Roy Hall reported the department had 41 calls in June and several trucks had required maintenance. Police Chief Gaston Griggs provided a verbal and written report for department activity during June.
Reports were presented by Street and Water/Sewer Superintendent Clayton Hudnall on monthly maintenance and repairs.
Council members present included Lorrie Chesser, Jason Higgins, Tod Higby, Joe McCarley and Jones, while Tanif Crotts was absent.
