Local Student Wins National Art Contest For America’s 250th

COMMUNITY COVERAGE

Bailey Pacheco, 10, of Clarksville, was recently named a winner in the American Heroes Student Art Contest, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities as part of the Freedom 250 celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

Pacheco took first place in the upper elementary, third-fifth grade division of the nationwide competition.

Students in grades three-12 across all 50 states were invited to create and submit an original, handmade two-dimensional artwork and a 100-word artist statement to be judged by a panel of artists and educators based on artistic excellence and technical skill, creativity and innovation, relevance to the submission requirements, and clarity and meaning of the artist statement.

Pacheco will travel to Washington, D.C., July 7-9 to attend a Student Art Exhibition and Award Ceremony at the Great American State Fair. A fourth grade student, Pacheco is the daughter of Helen and Michael Pacheco.
