SCHOOL BOARD COVERAGE -WESTSIDE- SUBSCRIBER EXCLUSIVE
The Westside School Board approved several new coaching hires at its monthly meeting Monday, June 15.
Following an executive session, the Board voted to employ Wesley Timmerman as a certified teacher, head seventh grade basketball coach, assistant junior and senior high basketball coach, and assistant softball coach. Timmerman had previously served as a paraprofessional in the district.
Austin Canady was employed as a certified teacher, head track coach and assistant junior and senior high football coach.
Board members voted to employ Tyler Sanders as a certified teacher, head junior high football coach, head softball coach and assistant senior high football coach.
Other personnel items approved by the Board included the employment of Amber Hampton, district reading specialist/coach; Megan Young, special education teacher; Lakeyn Freeman, self-contained paraprofessional; and Jennifer Carre’, counselor for kindergarten through eighth grades.
In other matters, the Board approved the financial report, which included a balance of $6,884,360.58.
A resolution regarding the legal balance was approved in compliance with Act 1105 of 2017 regarding 20% carryover balance.
The Board approved policy updates for the 2026-27 school year to comply with legislative updates.
Board members present included Flo Ann Highfill, Laura Bryant, Josh Yarbrough and Dale Wright, while Sara Jane Williams was absent.
