CHS Softball Picks Up Pair Of Conference Wins

The Clarksville Lady Panther softball team wrapped up the regular season with wins over Waldron and Dardanelle in conference action last week.
The Lady Panthers will compete in the first round of the 4-4A District Tournament this week in Dardanelle. Clarksville will face the sixth seed at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Waldron
The Lady Panthers picked up a big 12-1 win over Waldron on Senior Night, Tuesday, April 21, due to clutch hitting by Tosca Rodgerson.
Rodgerson drove in four runs on two hits to lead Clarksville to the run-rule victory.
Brylyn Kremers picked up the win in the circle, going all five innings and allowing five hits and one run with three strikeouts and no walks.
The Lady Panthers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff double by senior Addison Phillips, who later stole third base. Shelby Taylor drew a walk, and Allie Willis drove in Phillips and Taylor on a single. Willis later scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead 3-0 after the first inning.
Clarksville extended its lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring seven runs.
Morgan Shook got a leadoff walk, Kremers was hit by pitch, and Phillips walked to load the bases. Shook scored on a wild pitch, and Taylor walked to reload the bases.
Rodgerson hit a line drive to left field to score two runs, Phillips and Bella Auterson, the courtesy runner for Kremers. Taylor scored on a passed ball, and Briley Howard walked. Lillian Brott bunted and reached on an error by the third baseman to score Rodgerson and Howard.
The Lady Panthers kept making defensive plays in the field to keep Waldron at zero going into the bottom of the third inning, when Clarksville added two more runs to the lead.
Phillips hit her second double of the game to get things started. Willis was hit by a pitch, and Rodgerson doubled on a deep fly ball to center field to score Phillips and Willis.
Waldron found a way to score one run in the top of the fifth inning before the game was called due to the run rule.
Phillips and Rodgerson each collected two hits on the night to lead Clarksville. Howard, Willis, and Rita Mitchell each earned one hit.
Rodgerson led all hitters collecting 4 RBIs, while Willis had two and Taylor finished with one.
Dardanelle
The Lady Panthers picked up a 9-0 road win at Dardanelle on Thursday, April 23, for the final regular season conference game.
With the win, Clarksville secured the number three seed in the district tournament over Dardanelle, which will be the fourth seed.
Freshman Kremers got her first career shutout in the circle, going the distance over seven innings, giving up six hits, with two walks and two strikeouts in the victory.
The Lady Panthers got it started early by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Taylor singled to right field and Rodgerson moved her to third on a double to left field. Howard singled on a line drive to center to score Taylor and Rodgerson.
Neither offense could get anything going, as both teams played great defense until Clarksville took command of the lead, scoring six runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Phillips led off the inning with a double to center field. Taylor, Willis and Rodgerson all walked to score Phillips and load the bases. Howard came up big again on a double to center field to score Willis and Rodgerson. Shook hit a double to left field to score Howard.
Kremers walked, and Shook advanced to third on a wild pitch. Phillips got her second at-bat in the inning, driving in Shook on a single.
Clarksville added to its lead in the top of the sixth inning. Rodgerson singled to get on, and Howard moved her to third on a single to right field. Rodgerson later scored on a passed ball.
Howard led the offense, driving in four runs on three base hits, two singles and a double. Phillips also earned three hits on the night on two singles and a double with one RBI.
Shook and Rodgerson had two hits, a single and a double, with one RBI each.
The Lady Panthers were patient at the plate, earning seven walks on the night. Taylor and Willis each had two, while Rodgerson, Shelby Yarbrough and Kremers had one each.
“The defense played great tonight with 21 put outs on 21 chances,” Coach Nicole Possage said. “Addison Phillips led all defenders with five outs.”
