Lady Warriors Are Runner-Up In Bjorgum Tourney

The Lamar Lady Warrior softball team finished as runner-up in the Josh Bjorgum Memorial Tournament over the weekend, defeating Scranton and Mansfield but falling to Sheridan in the title game.
Scranton
Mayci Hilton drove in four runs on two hits to lead Lamar past the Scranton Rockets 8-2 in the first round of the tournament Saturday, March 14.
In the second inning, Hilton hit a grand slam to center field.
The Lady Warriors were the first to get on the board when Addie Hardin homered to center field in the first inning, scoring three runs. Katie Vonderheide hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the inning to get Scranton on the board.
Lamar extended its lead in the top of the second when Hilton hit a grand slam to center field, then added one run in the third when Nevaeh Danver singled down the right field line, making the score 8-1. Scranton managed one run in the bottom of the fourth but the Lady Warriors held on for the win.
Mylee Parker earned the win for Lamar. She gave up four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one. DeLaney Mainer took the loss for Scranton, surrendering eight runs, including three earned, on 10 hits, striking out four and walking none.
Lamar recorded 10 hits in the win. Danver, Hilton, Parker, Addie Hardin and Tenley Hardin each collected two hits.
Marrissa Layes, Vonderheide, Emey Pierce and Zoey Green each collected one hit for Scranton. Morgan Lensing and Vonderheide each drove in one run.
Mansfield
Both teams were strong in the circle, but Lamar defeated the Mansfield Lady Tigers 3-0 in the tournament semifinals.
Parker started the game for the Lady Warriors and recorded 15 outs. She struck out 10 batters on the day, allowing two hits and no runs over five innings while walking none.
An error put Lamar on the board in the top of the second. The Lady Warriors added one run in the third when Shayleigh Palmer doubled to center field, making the score 3-0.
Palmer led Lamar with one RBI as she went one-for-three at the plate. Addie Hardin went two-for-three at the plate to lead in hits and also stole two bases.
Sheridan
In the tournament finals, Lamar could not keep up with the Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets in a 4-1 loss.
The Lady Warriors were the first to get on the board in the second inning when Shae Shook singled, scoring one run. Sheridan scored two runs in the top of the third inning, then added one each in the fifth and sixth innings to take the championship win.
Parker took the loss for Lamar. She went six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking one.
Parker and Shook each collected one hit for the Lady Warriors. Shook went one-for-two at the plate and had one RBI.
