CHS Tennis Hosts Conference Tournament: Miller Takes Girls Singles Title
The Clarksville High School tennis teams hosted the 4A-1 Conference Tournament at the University of the Ozarks tennis complex on Monday, Oct. 7.
Senior Ivy Miller was undefeated in tournament play to win the girls singles championship.
With the top seed, Miller earned a first-round bye, then defeated Carli Vazquez of Dardanelle 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. She bested Megan Schwehm of Pottsville in the semifinals 6-4, 6-0 before taking the championship title with a win (6-1, 3-6, 6-1) over the number-two seeded Audrey Skinner of Pottsville in the finals.
Miller’s performance qualified her to compete in the 4A State Tournament, which was held at the UofO tennis complex on Oct. 14-15. She lost her opening round match 2-6, 6-3, 3-6.
Also competing in girls singles from CHS was Diana Dominguez, who fell to Maddy Adams of Prairie Grove in the first round.
Clarksville was represented in doubles action by two teams, Griselda Perez and K Gutierrez, who won their first match over a duo from Morrilton 6-3, 6-4, but fell in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-1 to a doubles team from Clinton.
The doubles team of D Alvarez and Amillie Herbst also won their opening match 6-0, 6-0 and also lost their quarterfinal match 6-1, 6-1 to a team from Clinton.
Boys
In boys singles, Jeremiah Estep fell in the opening round 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 to Tate Duvall of Pottsville. Beckett Wilhelmi lost to Tristan Morris of Pottsville 6-1, 6-0.
The doubles team of Zeke Jones and Daniel Cuevas won their opening round match against a team from Pottsville 6-4, 6-2 and lost in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-2 to a duo from Prairie Grove.
Also playing doubles were Connor Chism and Ryder Webb, who fell to a team from Clinton in the first round 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.
“We had a fantastic tennis season and many new players have joined this year,” Coach Truman Hensley said. “We started this year having to learn a lot of the basics.
