Lady Warriors Win 2 Of 3 In Tournament Of Champions
The Lamar Lady Warriors won two of three games in the Tournament of Champions in Fort Smith, taking the consolation championship in the tourney, which was held at Fort Smith Northside.
Lamar fell to Brock (Texas) in the first round but followed with wins over Idabel (Okla.) and Bergman in the consolation bracket.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Warriors defeated Heber Springs in a game at Arkansas Tech University.
Heber Springs
The Lady Warriors took a 55-28 win over the Heber Springs Lady Panthers on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Tucker Coliseum on the Arkansas Tech University campus.
Lamar led 13-10 at the end of the opening quarter and 22-16 at the half. The Lady Warriors poured in 22 third-quarter points while holding Heber Springs to three points. In the fourth quarter, Lamar outscored the Lady Panthers 11-9 to secure the 27-point win.
Kaley Long led the scoring with 20 points. Kori Sanders added 14 points and Madison Davidson was also in double figures with 10 points.
Emma Bailey and Macie Davidson each tallied four points. Brooklyn Meimerstorf rounded out the scoring with three points.
Tournament Of Champions
Brock, Texas
Lamar faced the Brock Lady Eagles in the tournament’s opening round on Thursday, Dec. 12, and lost 74-64.
The Lady Warriors led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Brock outscored them 21-8 in the second quarter for a 32-20 halftime lead. Lamar poured in 30 points in the third period and held the Lady Eagles to 12 to move into the lead at 50-44. In the fourth quarter, Lamar added eight points to the board while Brock scored 14 to tie the score and send the game into overtime. The Lady Warrior managed just six points in the extra period and allowed 16 by Brock, who took the 10-point win.
“I’m really proud of the kids for the effort they played with tonight against a really good team,” Coach Brandon Schluterman said. “It was a back-and-forth game with lots of swings and we fell a little short at the end. Definitely some things to take from the game that we have to be better at and some things that showed we can be pretty good team.”
Sanders led the Lady Warriors with 36 points. Madison Davidson was also in double figures with 10 points.
Shaylie Mayfield tallied eight points. Long contributed four points and Bailey and Rylee Miller each scored three points.
Idabel, Okla.
The Lady Warriors defeated the Idabel Lady Warriors 55-34 on Friday, Dec. 13.
Lamar held a 16-13 lead after one quarter and outscored Idabel 14-9 in the second for a 30-22 lead at the break. LHS posted 20 points in the third period and limited the Idabel Lady Warriors to just four points. In the final quarter, Lamar scored five points and Idabel recorded eight.
Sanders scored a team-high 21 points. Davidson finished with 13 points.
Bailey and Mayfield each tallied six points and Long added five. Clara Hampton and Macie Davidson each chipped in two points.
Bergman
In the consolation championship game on Saturday, Dec. 14, the Lady Warriors took a 74-62 win over the Bergman Lady Panthers.
Lamar trailed 21-15 at the end of the first quarter but outscored the Lady Panthers 21-19 in the second period for a 40-36 halftime advantage for Bergman. The Lady Warriors added 23 points to the board in the third quarter and limited Bergman to 12 points. In the fourth period, Lamar outscored Bergman 15-10 to close out the win.
Sanders again led the scoring with 31 points, and collected 13 rebounds for a double-double. She also dished out six assists and stole the ball once.
Madison Davidson recorded 17 points and eight rebounds. Mayfield scored 11 points, grabbed two rebounds and stole the ball once.
Miller added six points and pulled down two rebounds. Bailey finished with four points and three rebounds and Long scored three points, collected two rebounds, dished out two assists and had one steal.
Macie Davidson scored two points and grabbed one board.
The Lady Warriors will host Mansfield on Friday, Dec. 20, and will compete in the Hoops For Hunger Tournament in Russellville on Dec. 27-28.
