The Westside School Board met Monday, Jan. 19, and upon returning from executive session unanimously voted to renew Superintendent Brad Kent’s contract, including a one-year extension with a 5% pay increase.
Goals were also set, with incentives ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 per goal. The exact goals were not provided.
Elementary Building Project Update
Kent said the elementary building project remains in the “dirt and concrete stage,” but progress continues smoothly.
He reported the elementary school has resumed its normal schedule with no construction disruption, and the project is currently operating under its rock contingency.
Van Horn Construction plans to host Board members for a walk-through of the building project in April or May, according to Kent.
Enrollment
Current district enrollment is 541 students, and the district will base its budget on an enrollment of 525 students next school year, according to Kent.
He explained this was primarily due to a large graduating class, and the district will most likely see a decrease in enrollment afterward. It is too soon for an accurate kindergarten outlook, he noted.
The district is not currently overstaffed and will only absorb one position that is vacant due to a recent resignation, Kent said.
Other Matters
-The Board unanimously accepted the resignation of Ronnie Bryan (Ronni Bryant), effective Dec. 31, 2025.
-The Board also approved the facilities master plan, which will be sent to the state for further approval.
