by Debby Estep

Ozark High School (OHS) Family and Consumer Science students participated in the State STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) at the Hot Springs Convention Center April 9-10.

STAR events are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and occupational preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities:

–Cooperative, teams work to accomplish specific goals.

–Individualized, members work alone to accomplish specific goals.

–Competitive, individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria.

Participants received state recognition, achievement plaques and certificates. OHS Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) organization had four students, Brianna Rios, Tucker Jack Shaw, Carleigh West and Harlie Sims, who received state and national recognition, achievement plaques and certificates. The four students won first and second place over all classifications of Arkansas schools in their state competition and have earned a place to spotlight their projects and represent Arkansas at national competitions held July 1-11 in
Orlando, Fla.

The FCCLA students will be raising money to help fund their trip to the national competition. Any donations would be appreciated to help defray the costs.
