Lady Warriors Are Regional Champions

The Lamar Lady Warriors overpowered all three of their opponents in the 3A-1 Regional Tournament at Elkins last week to win the regional championship and secure a top seed in the state tournament this week.

Lamar defeated West Fork, Paris and Elkins on its way to the regional title.

West Fork

The Lady Warriors opened tournament play with a 67-35 win over the West Fork Lady Tigers on Thursday, Feb. 27.

Lamar jumped out to a 25-7 lead over the Lady Tigers in the first quarter. The Lady Warriors outscored West Fork 19-8 in the second period for a 44-15 advantage at the break. Lamar added 20 points to the board in the third quarter and three in the fourth, while holding the Lady Tigers to 10 points in each of the final two periods.

Madison Davidson led the scoring for the Lady Warriors with 22 points. Also in double figures were Emma Bailey with 15 points and Kori Sanders with 12.

Kaley Long recorded six points. Shaylie Mayfield tallied four points and Rylee Miller and Mylee Parker each added three points.

Macie Davidson rounded out the scoring with two points.

Paris

Lamar secured a 68-39 win over the Paris Lady Eagles in the semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 28.

The Lady Warriors held a 22-9 lead after one quarter. In the second quarter, Lamar poured in 17 points and limited the Lady Eagles to four points for a 39-13 halftime lead. The Lady Warriors added 13 points to the board in the third quarter, while Paris scored 20. Lamar posted 16 points in the fourth period and the Lady Eagles managed only six points.

Sanders scored a team-high 21 points in the win. Bailey also finished in double figures with 14 points.

Madison Davidson added nine points and Mayfield scored six. Abby Wilkins and Brooklyn Meimerstorf each recorded four points.

Miller finished with three points. Long, Clara Hampton and Macie Davidson scored two points each and Kaylee Young chipped in one point.

Elkins

The Lady Warriors defeated the host team in the championship game on Saturday, March 1, with a 56-35 decision over the Lady Elks.

Lamar fell behind 12-11 in the first quarter, but the Lady Warriors responded in the second period, outscoring Elkins 24-6 to carry a 35-18 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, Lamar scored 19 points and the Lady Elks added seven to the board. The Lady Warriors allowed 10 points from Elkins in the fourth quarter while scoring two of their own.

Long led Lamar with 15 points. Sanders scored 12 points and Madison Davidson was also in double figures with 10 points.

Bailey added nine points and Mayfield and Macie Davidson scored two points each.
