Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber Director Arrested: Embezzlement Charges Filed In Oklahoma

Nikki Smith, executive director of the Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, was arrested on Thursday on an Oklahoma warrant for embezzlement.

According to a statement from Brett Wood, Chamber Board president, Smith has been suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the charges.

“Early this morning, it came to our attention that arrest warrants had potentially been issued out of Oklahoma for Elaina Nicole Fletcher (Nikki Smith, our executive director),” Wood said. “Upon receiving the news, we immediately made contact with the local police department to verify the accusations. Clarksville Police Department confirmed the charges and confirmed that arrest warrant had been issued. They then came to the Chamber and she was arrested.”

Wood also reported Smith has been removed from all accounts and an initial review of all financial matters since her arrival has been conducted, with no foul play at the Chamber suspected.

According to the Oklahoma State Courts Network, a charge of embezzlement by employee was filed against Elaina Nicole Fletcher on Jan. 9, in Tulsa County District Court. A second defendant, Joshua Steven Smith, was charged with accessory to embezzlement and receiving/concealing stolen property.

Smith was hired by the Chamber in August 2024. The press release announcing her employment stated she was a former resident of Johnson County who had spent the last two years as administrator of the Skiatook (Okla.) First United Methodist Church.

The Skiatook Police Department was listed as the arresting agency on the Oklahoma court records.
