The Ozark School Board approved the employment of Ethan Bowman as junior high boys basketball coach at its monthly meeting Monday, March 16, in the Performing Arts Center.
A 2017 graduate of Ozark and 2021 graduate of the University of the Ozarks, Bowman returns to OHS after one year as high school boys coach at Clarksville. Prior to that, he coached the Mansfield senior girls for four years.
In addition to serving as junior boys coach, Bowman will serve as seventh grade boys coach and assistant high school boys coach.
Other Matters
–Board members elected Garrett Shepherd as president; Caren Nichols as vice president; and David Kendrick as secretary. Nichols will serve as legislative liaison, and Ryan Battles will serve as disbursing officer.
–Lisa Durning and her late husband, Todd, were recognized for their service as Board members. Durning fulfilled the term following her husband’s death, until the March 3 election.
–The high school cheer team was recognized for its state championship performance and national tournament appearance.
–Superintendent Zane Vanderpool gave the financial report, including the operating balance at the end of February was $5,323,372.86.
–Transfers were approved for two students from County Line to Ozark. School choice transfers were approved for two students from Ozark to Mulberry/Pleasant View, one from Clarksville to Ozark, and one from Westside to Ozark.
–The Board approved policies for unclaimed funds for unenrolled students.
–A resolution regarding the purchase of property was approved, with a closing date set for March 30.
–Board members approved the renewal of contracts for licensed employees at each school building.
–Resignations were accepted from Laurie Hall, second grade teacher; and Shannon Chrisman, middle school art teacher, both who are retiring at the end of the school year. Other resignations included Tammy Ferguson, who resigned as kitchen manager but will remain employed as a cook; Jared Miller, seventh grade science teacher and bus driver; Daniel Richard, archery coaching only; Amanda Rogers, cheer coaching only; and James Hillard, agri/math teacher.
–The employment of Ashlee Swaim as guidance counselor was approved.
