Holidays In EAST: Wrapping Up The Semester, Warming Up The Hallways

by Annabelle Keene

As Lamar High School nears the end of the first semester, EAST students are seeing their projects take shape and build progress for the months ahead.

One of EAST’s most prominent projects this year, the mapping of the Red Lick Mountain Bike Trails, has made substantial progress this semester. The students managing this project, Asher Dunning, Zane Siam, Eric Torres and Dawson Tilley, are working on making a new and improved online map of the trail system.

The students recognized the current version wasn’t mapped correctly and was in need of some redirecting. After a long semester of hard work, they’ve finished all of their experiments and preparation, and plan to go the trail when the new semester begins to finish mapping the trail.

Along with the steady progress of various projects, EAST has been wrapped up in holiday festivities this month. EAST students have put their skills to use designing bulletin boards, classroom doors, and the hallways with their technology.

Additionally, several EAST students have been volunteering at the school’s “Santa’s Workshop” event and around town to spread holiday spirit and gain service hours. This month has been one of the most productive yet for EAST, and is leading towards even better ones to come.

The EAST program is always looking for new ways to help, and they want to hear from community members. Anyone who knows of any issues in the community or have ideas that could improve the quality of life in the area is encouraged to reach out to the Lamar EAST team at lamar- [email protected], on Facebook at Lamar HS EAST, or on YouTube at LamarHS EAST.
