JCQC Approves Coal Hill FD Request: Dues To Be Collected With Taxes
by Janice Penix
The Johnson County Quorum Court adopted an ordinance at its monthly meeting Thursday, April 10, that will allow the Coal Hill Fire Department (CHFD) to place its annual dues on property tax statements.
The CHFD submitted its request with a petition signed by registered voters in the fire district and the county clerk verified the number of signatures was sufficient to allow the petition to proceed.
County Judge Herman Houston said the CHFD will join the majority of fire departments in the county which already utilize property tax statements for collection of dues. Houston said the Flat Rock and Lutherville fire departments are currently in the process of gathering necessary signatures, leaving Oark and Hagarville as the only two who have not petitioned to collect dues via tax statements.
In other matters, the Court approved an ordinance appropriating $3,905 from the county general fund for costs associated with a jury trial held in juvenile court. The funds will be used to pay jurors who served during the trial, according to Houston.
Houston reported bids have been received for the district court expansion project and the construction management team is reviewing the bids prior to the selection process. Houston said he feels confident, based on the bids received, that the project will be completed “right at or under budget.”
