Quiz Bowl, Art Student Recognized By Ozark School Board

by Vernon McDaniel

Ozark’s School Board was told March 17 that the junior high quiz bowl team recently finished second in the state. It was the first time the junior high team, which is coached by Cherese Smith, has placed in state competition.

Quiz bowlers and Smith received recognition from Superintendent Zane Vanderpool and OJH Principal Brad Ray.

Also recognized at the Board meeting was high school art student Olivia Hays, whose forged metal sculpture, “Spoon,” was exhibited at the sixth annual High School Art Competition at Historic Cane Hill, in partnership with the University of Arkansas School of Art.

Hays was recognized by OHS Principal Lexie Highfill and art teacher Alexandra Lemp.

“It is always exciting to be able to bring our students to Board meetings and share about some of the many great things that are happening in Ozark,” Vanderpool said. “Our students and staff work hard, and it is very nice to celebrate their achievements.”
