Algie L. Gifford

Algie Leroy (Pat) Gifford, 47, of DeWitt died Tuesday, July 19, 2011.

He was a native of Mariposa, Calif., logger, and preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Gifford.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Mathews; two children, Hayley Gardner (Shannon) of Stuttgart and Patrick Gifford of DeWitt; parents, Algie and Brenda Gifford of Oark and Betty and Howard Hicks of Bristol, Va.; two brothers, Mike Gifford and J.D. Gifford, both of Coal Hill; one grandson, Trinton Gardner of Stuttgart; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Essex Funeral Home Chapel in DeWitt with burial at Forks LaGrue Cemetery.

Donald L. Flint

Donald L. Flint, 78, of Barling died Saturday, July 23, 2011.

He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Elmer and Ruby Looper Flint, retired owner of Flint Tire Company, member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Navy veteran of the Korean War, and preceded in death by one sister, Jane Tobalsky.

Survivors include his wife, Larry Jean Flint; two daughters, Jan Flint Share of Polkville, Miss., and  Bobbie Brown and husband, Bruce, of Muldrow, Okla.; one son, Mike Flint and wife, Melissa, of Greenwood; one sister, Betty White and husband, Jim, of Little Rock; one brother, Elmer Wendell Flint and wife, Pearl, of Little Rock; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Cheshier officiating. Burial with military honors was at Fort Smith National Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Allen-Michael Share, John Brown, Shane Brown, and Trey Stephens and Zack Freeman and Mike Bain.

Hiram G. Ellison

Hiram Gail (Bear) Ellison, 63, of Van Buren died Friday, July 23, 2011.

He was a retired truck driver for Midwest Lumber Company, Crawford County Pallet Company and Parks Brothers Nursery.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Ellison; three daughters, Debbie Weathers of Coal Hill, Pam Ellison of Rogers, and Christine Ellison of Hartman; two sons, Daniel Ellison of Fort Smith and Bradley Ellison of Lamar; three sisters, Carolyne Elmore of Hartford, Muriel Kaylor of Van Buren, and Faye Castonquay of Olympia, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial to follow in Woodland Cemetery near Clarksville.

Active pallbearers will be Blake Weathers, Steve Weathers, Ray Slocum, Brett Young, Devin Young and Chris Hayes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Ellison and Wayne King.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Ocker Funeral Home at 700 Jefferson Street in Van Buren.

James Edwin Young

James Edwin Young, 59, of Lamar died Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.

He was a native of Wichita, Kan., machinist, and son of the late James Marion Young.

Survivors include his parents, James Franklin and Freda Jean Killough Cole of Clarksville; one sister, Melodie Rae Mueller of Lamar; one nephew, Harley James Mueller of Hagarville; one niece, Piper Wren Mueller of Lamar; and one great-niece, Isabella Rose Mueller of Hagarville.

Funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger and Rev. John Griffin officiating. Burial was in Lamar Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Ben Murray, Larry Childress, Fred Lewis, James Elliott, and Mike Schuster.

Roy Edward Caldwell


Roy Edward Caldwell, 84, a resident of Russellville, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at his home.

He was born July 20, 1927, at Russellville to William and Lilly Eva Simmons Caldwell. He worked in construction for many years and loved to exercise and ride his mountain bike. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David and James Caldwell.

Survivors include four sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy Caldwell of Russellville, John Caldwell of Grady, Lewis and Sharon Caldwell of Russellville and David Caldwell of Russellville; a sister, Lucille Howell of London; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Pisgah Cemetery at Pottsville with the Rev. Randell Williams officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
