Betty Ruth Barnard

Betty Ruth Barnard, 74, of Pocola, Okla., died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, in Fort Smith.

A native of Coal Hill, she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Carrie Sams Douglas, Baptist, and retired Whirlpool employee.

Survivors include three daughters, Vicky Resch of Roland, Okla., Karen (Susie) Pool of Magazine and Ann Margaret Smith of Paris; two sons, Larry Barnard of Lavaca and Bruce Barnard of Pocola, Okla.; one brother, Leroy Douglas of Coal Hill; two sisters, Claretta (Sissy) Bartlett and Doris Robertson, both of Fort Smith; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with Rev. Andy O’Neal officiating. Burial was in Roland City Cemetery in Roland, Okla.

Pallbearers were Donnie Resch, Michael Resch, Kenny Resch, John Poole, Stephen O’Neal, and Leroy Hurst.

Burley Gene Shook

Burley Gene Shook, 69, of Clarksville died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Dillon, son of the late Marion Frank Shook and Mary Wheeler Shook Linton, member of East Mount Zion Trinity Baptist Church, retired foundry employee with 37 years of service, record holding state champion and avid horseshoe pitcher, Mason, and was preceded in death by one brother, Shelby Shook, by 18 days.

 Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gentry Shook; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Billy Jack Gray of Clarksville; one son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Tammy Shook of London; three brothers, G.W. Shook of El Paso, Texas, and Roy Shook and Larry Shook, both of Clarksville; and five grandchildren, Dusty Napier, Holly Shook, Katie Brown, Justin Brown and Will Sanderson.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at East Mount Zion Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Jackson, assisted by Rev. Bob Freeman, officiating.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home with burial to be in Fort Douglas Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eldon Scoggins, Kenny Nelson, J.C. Douglas, Don Dougan, Carl Curtis, Jessie Vaught, Redell Shatwell, Charles Jones, Danny Hamm, and Jerry Hicks.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel.

Ruth E. Willis

Ruth E. Willis, 64, of Russell, Kan., former resident of Clarksville, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, Kan.

She was a native of Beloit, Kan., daughter of the late Lester D. and Ida F. Baker Terrell, raised in the Downs, Tipton and Russell, Kan., areas, 1964 graduate of Chapman High School, widow of Jerry E. Willis, preceded in death by one daughter, Audra Lyn Willis, member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she assisted with WOW and Sunday school, and employed as an operator and in other positions of Southwestern Bell until 1996, and was later employed in customer service of Wilson State Bank prior to serving as a Russell county dispatcher for many years before retiring in 2002.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Bill Dollison of Russell, Kan.; one sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Richard Newton of Russell, Kan.; two grandchildren, Bailey and Cody Dollison; one niece, Jami Ganson of Rossville, Kan.; one great-nephew, Liam Ganson of Rossville, Kan.; and one great-niece, Kegann Gideon of Rossville, Kan.

A celebration of life service was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell, Kan., with Pastor Terry McGuire officiating. Burial followed at the Russell City Cemetery.
