Barbara Ann Harris


Barbara Ann Frye Harris, 77, of Coos Bay, Ore., a native of Coal Hill, died March 11, 2008, in Coos Bay, Ore.

Survivors include her husband, Preston Harris; two daughters, Melodie Leeth of Graham, Wash., and Janice Harris of Maplewood, N. J.; six grandchildren, Melissa, Angela, Christina, and Anthony Leeth, and Michael and Adam Glover; five great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.

Funeral was March 14 at First Baptist Church in Coos Bay, Ore., with Rev. Gary Rice, pastor, officiating.

Carolyn M. Yates


Carolyn Mae Yates, 61, of Oark died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville.

She was a daughter of the late Zeke and Gayle Seals Gregory and former employee of Tyson Company and San Antonio Shoe Company.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Yates; two sons, Kevin Mark Yates of Pine Bluff and Eric Matthew Yates of Conway; four sisters, Shirley Acord and husband, Bob, of Farmington, Jean Core and husband, Dan, of Paris, and Lynn Steele and Marilyn Pearson and husband, Steve, all of Clarksville; and three brothers, Wayne Gregory and wife, Tricia, and Larry Gregory and wife, Judy, all of Clarksville, and Gary Gregory and wife, Diana, of Hunt.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Yale Church with Rev. Terry Schlinker officiating.

Burial was in the Yale Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Geoffery Gregory, Eric Gregory, Jamie Gregory, Brad Pearson, Marty Lowrey, Steve Boyd, Jess Jordan, and Brock Boyd.

Honorary pallbearers were Billy Gregory, Jimmy Gregory, Don Acord, Paul Cummins, Anthony Acord, Monte Brotherton, and Matt Brotherton.


Dale L. Swindle Sr.


Dale L. Swindle Sr., 83, of Mt. Ida died Sunday, April 13, 2008, in Bentonville.

He was a native of Black Springs in Montgomery County, son of the late Sol and Nina Chism Swindle, former co-owner of the Mt. Ida Café, field office manager for several pipe line companies through July 2007, and was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Minnie Laura “Toogie” Whittington Swindle.

Survivors include two sons, Dale L. Swindle Jr. and wife, Mary Anne, of Bentonville and Tim Swindle and wife, Carole, of Bentonville, formerly of Clarksville; six grandchildren and spouses, John and Ashley Swindle of Maumelle, Tom and Rose Swindle of Spring, Texas, Dr. James Swindle of Rogers, Suzanne Swindle of Bentonville, Lindy and Adam Kern of Rogers, and Jeff and Monique Swindle of Fayetteville; three great-grandsons; and two sisters, Jane Whittington and Beverly Campbell of Mount Ida.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the First Baptist Church in Mount Ida. Arrangements are under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home.

Daniel D. Schmatjen


Daniel Dare Schmatjen, 75, of Clarksville died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Henry C. and Myrtle P. Hunter Schmatjen, retired sales and service employee, Army veteran, member of Hilltop Bible Church, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Annetta Pitts Schmatjen; four brothers, Henry Clair, Carl, Paul and Walter Schmatjen; two sisters, Angla Harper and Maida Harper; and one stepson, Mark Wyers.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Bell Baskin Schmatjen; one daughter, Lisa McCarley and husband, Ricky, of Lamar; four stepchildren, Daniel Wyers of Larado, Texas, Diane Austin of Keller, Texas, Pam Story of Atlanta, Ga., and Lisa Weigner of Cordele, Ga.; one sister, Eileen Page of Bates City, Mo.; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Lamar Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Allen and Rev. Bill Milam officiating.

Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Robert Fraser, Robert Acord, Ralph Spencer, Richard Stephens, Gene Leeds, and Tracy Price.

Glora May Dobbs


Glora May Dobbs, 67, of Kansas City, Kan., died Monday, April 7, 2008, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo.

She was a daughter of the late Bill and Martha Campbell Houston of Hartman, Baptist, and was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Dobbs; one brother, Morris Houston; and two sisters, Maxcine Watson and Nola Hanshew.

Survivors include her husband of approximately 50 years, William (Bill) Dobbs; one daughter, Kimberly Padelli and husband, Domnick, of Kansas City, Kan.; one son, Lonnie Dobbs of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Sara Griffin of Coal Hill and Linda Houston of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Billy Houston and Truman Houston, both of Hartman; five grandchildren, Steven Martin, Michael Dobbs, Kerri Santino, Danielle Santino and Kilee Wiegel; and three great-grandchildren, Angel Martin, Haley Dobbs, and Caiden Santino.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Ron Griffin, Eric Houston, Curtis Houston, Alan Mize, Corey Coffin, and Ray Turner.

Honorary pallbearers were Jim Elms, Art Chaver, and Ron Scarberry.


Lois B. Bromley


Lois Bernice Bromley, 88, of Spiro, Okla., died Saturday, April 5, 2008, in Spiro, Okla.

She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Newt and Esther Hatchett Jennings, widow of Rev. Hubert Bromley, and was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy Schreckhise of Spiro, Okla.; three sons, Hubert Ray Bromley III and wife, Shirley, and Donnie Gene Bromley and wife, Patricia, all of Van Buren, and Gary Carroll Bromley and wife, Lois, of Greenwood; two sisters, Lena Dillard of Cabot and Opal Hughes of Seattle, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.


Louise Henderson


Louise Yates Henderson, 88, of Lamar died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.

She was a daughter of the late Arthur David and Bertha Peyton Yates, widow of John Loyd Henderson, and was preceded in death by one son, James (Jim) Henderson; two sisters, Dorothy Crowder and Lois Yates; and three brothers, Herbert Yates, Paul Yates, and Curtis Yates.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Duvall of Lamar; one son, Bob Henderson of Berryville; two sisters, Wanda Jean Henderson of Lamar and Ella Jeanette Aaron of Benton; four brothers, Coy Yates of Hope, Arthur Yates Jr. of Pine Bluff, Billy Yates of San Antonio, Texas, and Roy Yates of Russellville; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Minnow Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Clint Faubion, Brandon Campbell, Ryan Faubion, Russell Henderson, Lyn Henderson, Brian Henderson, and David Cwiertnia..
