Dr. Clyde Underwood
Dr. Clyde Hamilton Underwood, 72, of Clarksville died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at his home.
He was a son of the late Roger and Emma Hamilton Underwood and was preceded in death by one daughter, Katherine (Kathy) Underwood.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Perry Underwood; two sons, Donald Ray Underwood of Quitman and Randy C. Underwood of Malvern; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. The body will be cremated.
James W. Jones
James W. Jones, 75, of Tahlequah, Okla., formerly of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Aug. 1. 2006, in Tahlequah, Okla.
A native of the Stone Hill Community, he was the son of the late Johnny and Mandy Jones, graduate of the University of the Ozarks, served two years in the Army and completed his master’s degree at the University of Arkansas in 1957. After teaching chemistry and physics at Clarksville High School for five years, he returned to the University of Arkansas and completed his educational doctorate degree in 1963. He then took a position in the teacher education program at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Okla. In 1969, he was promoted to professor, a position he held until his retirement in 1986. He was an active member of the Tahlequah Bible Church since 1963 and was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Highfill of the Center Point Community; and one brother, Elmer Jones of Clarksville.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Chronister Jones; two daughters and families, Judy and Larry Myers and sons, Cody of Tahlequah, Okla., and Rhett of Coweta, Okla.; and Teresa and Marty Falling and daughters, Attalie of Riverton, Kan., and Bronwyn Huddleston and husband, Phillip, of Baxter Springs, Kan.; one brother, Ulus Jones of Clarksville; and one sister, Evleen Gipson of Kansas City, Kan.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Hart Funeral Home in Tahlequah, Okla., with Rev. Randy Proctor officiating. Burial was in the Tahlequah City Cemetery.
Melba A. Bonds
Melba A. Bonds, 87, of Ozark, mother of Ione Daniel of Clarksville, died Monday, July 31, 2006, in Ozark.
She was a native of Waldron and a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Rudy Bonds; three other daughters, Avery Mantooth, Willa Pruitt and Carol Willhite, all of Ozark; two sons, Earl Bonds of Ozark and Jack Bonds of Cecil; one sister, Louella Shaw of Ratcliff; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
Burial was at Cemetery Ridge under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Charleston.
Active pallbearers were grandsons, James and Billy Gude, Kevin, Paul and Randall Bonds, Bryan Pruitt, Greg Willhite and John Daniel.
Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters.
Patsy Allred
Patsy Allred, 59, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at her home.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Elmer and Josie Belle Osburn Curtis, graduate of Clarksville High School, Pentecostal, and was employed as a housekeeper at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Furman Allred; two daughters, Sheila Paxson of Clarksville and Marsha Oberste of Portland, Ore.; four sons, Eddie Williams of Lamar, and Junior Williams, Robin Williams and Jason Williams, all of Clarksville; one stepson, Steven Allred of Myrtle Beach, S. C.; and numerous grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at Carter Cemetery with Rev. Bill Milam officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Sylvia J. Charlton
Sylvia J. Charlton, 83, of the Piney Community died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of the Piney Community, daughter of the late Dolan Dee and Bertha Parrish Sanderson, widow of John Edward Charlton, member of the Piney Bible Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by one brother, Leeman Sanderson.
She is survived by one daughter, June Charlton of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sons, Johnnie J. Charlton of Gulf Port, Miss., Robert E. Charlton of Clarksville, and Lyle F. Charlton of Piney; two brothers, James Edward Sanderson of Piney and Leonard Don Sanderson of Flat Rock; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at the Piney Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Matzko officiating.
Burial will be in the Brock Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Terry Sanderson, Jackie Sanderson Jr., Lance Clubb, Keith Scoggins, Steve Tillman, and Joshua Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brandy Clubb, Lance Austin Edward Clubb, and Dusty Ray Clubb.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Shannon L. Farmer
Shannon Leah Farmer, 32, of Oark died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at her home.
She was a 1992 graduate of Clarksville High School.
Survivors include her parents, Clinton (Butch) and Audrey Farmer of Oark; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donavan and Rachel Farmer and Travis and Jennette Farmer, all of Clarksville; one sister and brother-in-law, Rishelle and Travis Wilson of Anthony, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews including Alanis, Trinity and Connith Farmer, Casper Slisz III and Brooklynn Dennett, Aaron, Daleigha, Britlee, Makia, Mackenzie and Thayden.
Private graveside services will be held at Oark Cemetery at a later date. Burial will be at Oark Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
