Cherri J. King


Cherri Jean Madden King, 46, of Clarksville died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at UAMS Hospital in Little Rock.

A native of Newport, she was a daughter of the late Alton Madden, graduate of Paris High School, member of Paris Church of Christ, and a registered nurse.

Survivors include her husband, Pat King; one daughter, Kristin King of Clarksville; three sons, Jeremy Dorrough of Bergman, and Nick Dorrough and Alex King, both of Clarksville; parents, Charlene and Raymond Avery of Paris; one sister, Lesa Thomas of Little Rock; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Harold and Mary Alice Madden of Paragould, John Madden of Palm Bay, Fla., and Scott Avery of Fayetteville; and one grandchild, Michael Dorrough of Bergman.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lance Jones officiating.

Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Kent Cecil, Jerry Stumbaugh, George Taylor III, Mike Stone, Ron Taylor, and Freeman Wish.

Carolyn Jane Phelps


Carolyn Jane Phelps, 62, of Coal Hill died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her home.

She was a daughter of the late William C. and Captola Sutton Higgins, attended the Coal Hill Assembly of God Church, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Stover and Marjorie Smith; and one brother, George Allen Higgins.

Survivors include her husband, Danny Phelps; three daughters, Cynthia Hall of Hartman, Kattie Lucas of Coal Hill and Donna Hedrick of Dover; two sons, Paul Mc-
Glaun of Greenbrier and Daniel Phelps of Coal Hill; three sisters, Geneive Roland of Grant Pass, Ore., Brenda Bowman of Guthrie, Okla., and Linda Rhinehart of Paris; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Coal Hill Assembly of God Church with Rev. John Kindrix and Rev. Amos Pledger officiating.

Burial was in the Coal Hill Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Joseph Hall, Joseph Lucas, Jared Wood, Ellis Cemental, Clint Bacchus, and Robert Hall.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul Ray McGlaun and Jamey Styles.

Pauline M. James


Pauline Mae James, 76, of Gravois Mills, Mo., formerly of Hartman, died Sept. 13, 2002, at Osage Beach, Mo.

She was a daughter of the late Clarence Lee and Olga Cowell Fetters, widow of Coyle E. James, and was preceded in death by one son, Donald J. James.

Survivors include three daughters, Jo Ann Cole of Hartman, Kathryn Macial of Kansas City, Mo., and Jeanne James of Gravois Mills, Mo.; two sons, Paul James of Kansas City, Mo., and Coyle James Jr. of DeSoto, Kan.; two sisters, Ardath and Sue; one brother, Kenneth Cowell of Colorado; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at the Hartman Cemetery with Rev. Billy Usery officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Teletha P. Smith


Teletha P. Smith, 92, of Clarksville died Sept. 24, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a daughter of the late Robert E. and Dora Layton Harrison, widow of Kenneth Smith, retired sales clerk and bookkeeper, and a member of Lamar Baptist Smith.

She is survived by one sister, Lila Cassell of Fullerton, Calif.; and one brother, Floyd E. Harrison of Germany.

Funeral was at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Clyde Vire officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tracy Price, Charles Dillard, Harry Tilley, Charles Brown, Ben Keith, and Don Danvar.

Vernon Scott Stone


Vernon Scott Stone, 81, of Hagarville died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at his home.

He was a native of Limestone, son of the late Walter Scott and Artie Creasey Stone, former resident of Newton County, member of the Deer Church of Christ, retired logger and farmer, and was preceded in death by one sister, Lorene Peoples; and one granddaughter, Julie Ann Stone.

Survivors include his widow, Alpha May Davis Stone; six children and spouses, James and Bernice Stone of Pelsor, Jerry Stone of Jasper, Ricky (Curtis) and Marla Stone of Harrison, Beverly and Wayne Cornwell of Knoxville, Teresa and Danny Campbell of Hagarville and Billy and Edie Stone of Hagarville; two sisters, Elsie Peoples of Pelsor and Dorothy Brown of Clarksville; 19 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Deer School gymnasium with Jimmie McCut-
cheon officiating.

Burial will be in Curtis Cemetery at Limestone under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Jasper.

Pallbearers will be Argus Stone, Robert Stone, Kenny Stone, Travis Stone, Michael Carney, Jamie Carney, Ritchie Stone, Tim Stone, Casey Campbell, Brandon Campbell, Eli Stone, and Preston Stone.
