Amos Kraus


Amos Kraus, 84, of Oran, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in a Cape Girardeau, Mo., hospital.

He was a former resident of Johnson County, son of the late Jasper and Laura Kraus, a retired farmer, and member of the Assembly of God Church in Bell City, Mo.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bessie Kraus; one son, Dwayne Kraus of Oran, Mo.; one brother, Allie Kraus of Clarksville; two granddaughters, Amy and Audrey; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral and burial were Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Oran, Mo.

Bill H. Higgs


Bill H. Higgs, 74, of Fordyce died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at his home.

He was a former resident of Johnson County and was preceded in death by one son, Mark Higgs.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Betty Blackard Higgs; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Beverly Higgs of Arkadelphia; one daughter, Diane Higgs of Long Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren, Cena Clark and John Michael Higgs, both of Gurdon; and two great-grandchildren, Hallie Clark and Kaitlyn Higgs.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Oakland Cemetery in Fordyce. Arrangements are under the direction of Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care Services, 2214 South Blake Street, Pine Bluff, AR 71603.

Bruce W. Steele


Bruce W. Steele, 79, of Clarksville died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Benjamin and Zula Francico Steele, retired over the road truck driver, Army veteran of World War II, and member of the Nazarene Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bernice Allison Steele; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Kathy Evans and Kenneth and Betty Kelly, all of Grand Island, Neb.; one sister-in-law, Thelma Steele of Wolbach, Neb.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Newton officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Randy Warren, Dennis Kelly, Kenneth Kelly Jr., Tracy Minor, Tracy Watts, and Gary Dorney.

Franklin D. Lukins


Franklin D. Lukins, 61, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Sacramento, Calif., son of the late Franklin and Ethel Anderson Lukins, and a carpenter.

He is survived by three sisters, Bonnie Weddell and Rosie Harill, both of Sacramento, Calif., and Myrtle Kitching of Lavaca; and one brother, Leroy Lukins.

The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Gwin Atkinson


Gwin Atkinson, 83, of Greenwood died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at Greenwood Nursing Home.

She was a member of 46th Street Church of Christ in Fort Smith.

She is survived by three sons, Leslie Lee Atkinson of Wilmington, N. C., Mark Eldon Atkinson of Greenwood, and Joe Barry Atkinson of Roland, Okla.; two sisters, Pauline Looper Larsen and Camilla Looper Lewis, both of Wichita, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Liberty Cemetery at Greenwood under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home.

Rusty L. Talley


Rusty Leroy Talley, 15, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at his home in Clarksville.

He was a student at Clarksville High School.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Edwina and Doug Hunter of Lamar; father and stepmother, Scott and Tammy Talley of Clarksville; one brother, Dusty Joe Talley of Lamar; one stepsister, Stephanie Holloman of Scranton; grandparents, Norma Jean Gentry of Clarksville, the late Leroy Miller, and Joe and Nila Talley of Camanche, Okla.; and stepgrandparents, Glenn and Evelyn Hunter of Clarksville.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Holman Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Wano, Gary Edward, Jeremy Hatchett, Matt Martin, Anthony Spiotto, and Matt McDonald.

Honorary pallbearer will be Jesse Apple.

William J. Smreker Sr.


William J. Smreker Sr., 67, of Washington, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998.

He was a former resident of Hartman and son of the late Henry J. and Mary E. Smreker of the Sacred Heart Community.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Velda Smreker; two sons, William J. Smreker II and Henry John Smreker; one daughter, Theresa Montgomery; three sisters, Cecelia Oberste, Henrietta Kapp and Betty Owens; two brothers, Robert J. Smreker and Charles E. Smreker; and five grandchildren, Tara, Jacob and Joseph Smreker and Jamie and Kristina Travis.

Funeral was Tueday, Nov. 24, in St. Louis, Mo., with interment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.

Mrs. Connie Roberson


Mrs. Connie Gean Roberson, 79, of Coal Hill died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Medi-Homes in Fort Smith.

She was a Baptist, daughter of the late William and Dora Dollar Bramlett, and widow of Virgil Martin and Ode Roberson.

She is survived by three daughters, Patsy Broomfield of Fort Smith, Janice Bandy of Pocola, Okla., and Sharon Broomfield of Coal Hill; one son, Joe Bob Martin of Coal Hill; two brothers, Burl Bramlett of Heber Springs and Bob Bramlett of Sun City, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clifford Myers officiating. Burial will be in Coal Hill Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
