David N. Fitzgerald
David Nelson Fitzgerald, 63, of
Clarksville died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at his home.
He was a native of Framingham,
Mass., graduate of Milford (Massachusetts) High School, Vietnam
veteran, member of Coal Hill VFW Post No. 8532 and retired Tyson Foods
employee.
Survivors include one son, Robert
Wood of Fort Smith; four daughters, Lisa Kilbourn of Fort Smith,
Katherine Martin of Clarksville, Melanie Escalante of Huntington, and
Jessica Snyder of Fayetteville; one sister, Donna Fitzgerald of
Milford, Mass.; one brother, Michael Fitzgerald of Hamilton, Mass.; and
two grandsons, Adrien Martin and Dougie Kilbourn of Fort Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 1
p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Coal Hill VFW Building with Chaplain
Cloud and James Dahlem officiating. Arrangements are under the
direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Donald Phillips
Donald “Britches” Phillips, 70, of
Alix, Arkansas, died January 5, 2012 in Alix. He was retired from
Cargill. He was born June 10, 1941 in Paris, Arkansas to Truman Leon
and Jessie Willie Hawkins Phillips. He was preceded in death by his
parents; three brothers, Jack, Dave and Johnny Phillips.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 PM,
Monday, January 9, 2012, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with Brother
Keith Dodson and Reverend Troy Vaughn officiating, with burial at
Phillips Cemetery in Alix under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara
Dougan Phillips of Alix; three sons, Truman Phillips of Alix, Fred
Phillips and wife, Charlotte, and David Phillips and wife, Donna,
all
of Alix; one daughter, Chrissa and husband, J.J. Tull, of Alix; nine
grandchildren, Alex Kasey, Lexie, Dougan, Ruston, Makenna, Jesse,
Jacob, Ashton and Piper.
Pallbearers were Truman, Fred and
David Phillips, J.J. Tull, George Flegel and Chad Binyon. Honorary
pallbearers were all of his buddies.
The family visited with friends from
4:00–6 :00 PM, Sunday, January 8, 2012, at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315
W. Commercial, in Ozark.

Elizabeth Ann Nichols, 73, mother of
Diane Wood of Clarksville, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, in Waldron.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday,
Jan. 4, at Altus First Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Starnes and Zack
Belt officiating.
Burial was at Highland Cemetery in
Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

She was born in the Greenwood
Community to Riley and Virginia McGhee West, widow of Pete Nichols,
retired Whirlpool employee, member of Altus First Baptist Church and
former church secretary-treasurer. She was preceded in death by one
sister, Bobbie Gene West; and one brother, Willard West.
Survivors include one son, Dean
Nichols of Waldron; one other daughter, Sandy Stewart of Altus; three
brothers, Wallace West and Clinton West, both of the Greenwood
Community, and Gary West of Alma; two sisters, Connie Bowen of Ozark
and Aileen Davis of El Reno, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Gregory Allen Irwin
Gregory Allen Irwin, 23, of
Lakeland, Fla., grandson of Jewell and James Damon of Clarksville, died
Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at his home.
He was a native of Lakeland, Fla.,
attended Valleyview Elementary, Lakeland Highlands Middle School,
graduated from George Jenkins High School in 2006, and Tallahassee
Community College with an AA degree in 2008, was a senior at the
University of Central Florida majoring in digital media, and was a
member of First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, Fla., Scout Pack 104
and Scout Troop 104. He was preceded in death by his paternal
grandfather, Charles Irwin; and maternal grandparents, Billy and
Barbara Wade.
Other survivors include his parents,
Louis and Cheryl Irwin of Lakeland, Fla.; one brother and
sister-in-law, Paul and Katy Irwin of Jacksonville, Fla.; aunts and
uncles, Alice Hazel of Lakeland, Fla.; Billy and Diane Wade of
Belington, W. Va., Mary and John Thomas of Frostproof, Fla.; and
Charlie Irwin and Larry Irwin, both of Clarksville; and numerous
great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday,
Jan. 7, at First Presbyterian Church followed by graveside services at
Oak Hill Cemetery.

James David Williams
James David Williams, 69, of
Clarksville died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012.
He was a son of the late J.C. and
Hazel Mae Reeves Williams, former resident of Pine Bluff, attended Pine
Bluff and Watson Chapel School districts, served 23 years in the Armed
Forces including the United States Navy and was a Vietnam War veteran,
member of Crossroads Assembly of God Church and was preceded in death
by two brothers, Charles Williams and Roy Williams.
Survivors include one brother, Jimmy
(Marylyn) Williams of Fayetteville; one sister, Mary Kesterson of Pine
Bluff;
three nephews, Stephen (Linda)
Williams of Tucker, Tony Williams of San Francisco, Calif., and Kevin
(Yesi) Kesterson of Santa, Anna, Calif.; one niece, Alisa Williams of
Fayetteville; and one great-nephew, Matthew Williams of Tucker.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m.
Monday, Jan. 9, at the Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction
of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Jimmie Eugene Trost
Jimmie Eugene Trost, 76, of Little
Rock, brother of Beatrice Wiser of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Jan. 3,
2012.
He was born in Leedey, Okla., a
graduate of Green Forest High School and barber college, served in the
United States Army, attended Arkansas Technical College, graduated from
the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, licensed as a professional
engineer (PE), retired as a civil engineer from the survey and
maintenance division of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation
Department, and following retirement served part-time as a disaster
relief professional with the Federal Emergency Management
Administration. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and
Cecelia Trautman Trost of Green Forest; one sister, Beverly Ann Trost
of Green Forest; and four brothers, Gordon O. Trost of Green Forest,
Victor E. Trost of Virginia Beach, Va., Herbert A. Trost of Wilmington,
N.C., and Dale W. Trost of Cabot.
Survivors include his wife, Sue
Witherington Trost; two daughters, Margaret Trost of San Antonio,
Texas, and Lt. Col.-Select, Jennifer Vecchione of Vandenberg AFB,
son-in-law, Scott Vecchione, and grandson, Sijan, of Santa Maria,
Calif.; one other sister, Eunice Wise of Beebe; and seven nieces and
six nephews including Celia Wiser of Fayetteville and Grant Wiser of
Alton, Ill., both formerly of Clarksville.
Visitation and funeral were Friday,
Jan. 6, at the Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock where he served as
a deacon. Graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Egypt
Cemetery at Hamburg. Arrangements were under the direction of
Roller-Chenal Funeral Home in Little Rock.

Joe A. Askins
Joe A. Askins, 89, of Anaheim,
Calif., died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011.
He was a native of the Lone Pine
Community, son of the late Joe and Etta Bean Askins, and widower of
Joan Garner Askins. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leland M.
King and Lowell A. Higgs; and a brother, Varnell J. Askins.
He is survived by one son, Bradley
Askins and his wife, Alice, and two grandchildren, all of Bethlehem,
Pa.; as well as several nephews, nieces and cousins in the local area.
Interment was under the direction of
Memory Garden Memorial Park and Mortuary of Brea, Calif.

Margaret Ruth Davis
Margaret Ruth Davis, age 85, passed
away Saturday, January 7, 2012, in Muskogee, OK. She was born in
Oktaha, OK on June 6, 1926, to William Love and Arminta “Minnie” (Byrd)
Stephens.
Ruth was living and working in
Muskogee when she met Simual “Ray” Davis, who was stationed at Camp
Gruber. Ruth and Ray married just five weeks later, on February 19,
1945. After living in Muskogee and in Eastern Arkansas, they moved to
California in 1952, to be close to Ray’s family.
Ruth loved California: the beach,
the parks, the weather, and her favorite job as Quality Control at a
defense plant. Her later jobs were in retail. With her husband’s health
declining, the family moved to Clarksville, AR in 1962. In 1968, with
their three children grown and in college, Ruth returned to Muskogee.
She married Leslie O. Davis, no relation.
Ruth loved to read, crochet, and
experiment with new recipes, as one of her greatest pleasures was
cooking for others. She enjoyed digging in the dirt, wherever she
lived, both weeding and planting flowers. Ruth and Leslie spent many
evening hours playing dominoes and cards with both family and friends.
She attended a Baptist Church wherever she lived when her health
allowed, and enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School.
Ruth was preceded in death by
her
two husbands, S. Ray Davis and Leslie O. Davis, no relation; and all of
their siblings. She was also preceded by her half-brothers, Jack and
Lee Henry; her half-sister, Bell Henry Sampson; her brothers, Haskell
and Charley Stephens; and her sister, Lucille Stephens London; and
several nieces and nephews. Ruth is survived by her son, Billy Ray
Davis (Becky) of Afton, OK; daughters, Carolyn McBride (Hershel) of
Muskogee, and Linda Haltom (Gerald) of Clarksville, AR; grandchildren,
Danielle Cara, Chaun Davis, Billy Ray Davis, Jan Williams, Alicia
Sharp; Michael and Robert Boger; Mark and William Haltom; her beloved
sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Stephens, born the same day and year as Ruth;
as well as several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A family visitation for Ruth will be
6-8 p.m. Wednesday January 11, 2012, at Bradley Funeral Service of
Muskogee. A funeral service for Ruth will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday
January 12, 2012, at Bradley Belltower Chapel with Pastor Tom Shelton
officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery.

Martha Eulema Pyles, 78, of Ozark
died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, in Ozark.
She was a native of Johnson County,
daughter of the late Carl and Susie Hyder Hanshew, widow of Jim Pyles,
retired lab technician, and member of Hunt Gospel Church.
Survivors include one niece, Susan
Taylor and husband, Joe, of Ozark; one nephew, Bobby Hanshew and wife,
Dolores, of Lowell; aunt, Violet of Saxton, Mo.; and three cousins,
Dovie Tuck of Ozark, Dennis Hyder of Hunt, and Jesse Thomas of Conway.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m.
Friday, Jan. 6, at Liberty Hill Cemetery at Hunt with Rev. Leo Villines

Tina Marie Ferris
Tina Marie (T) Ferris, 32, of Plano,
Ill., whose father and stepmother, Tom and Rita Ferris reside at
London, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at her home.
She was a native of Sandwich, Ill.,
employed as an analyst for Group O at Caterpillar, Inc., in Aurora,
Ill., attended Harvest Chapel in Sandwich, Ill., and was preceded in
death by one son, Bryce Allen Johnson; and maternal and paternal
grandparents.
Other survivors include two sons,
Brendon McDonald and Kyle Ferris, both of Plano, Ill.; mother and
stepfather, Vicki (Moss) and Tommy Nagy of Plano, Ill.; two brothers,
Shawn Beck of Sandwich, Ill., and Brian (Kristina) Beck of Yorkville,
Ill.; one sister, Amy (Chris) Stankovich of Plano, Ill.; and numerous
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral was at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan.
5, at Larson-Nelson Funeral Home in Plano, Ill., with Pastor Joe Denbow
officiating. Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Lincoln
Memorial Park Cemetery in Aurora, Ill.
Vane Carlyn Farrer
Vane Carlyn Farrer, 84, of Scranton
died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Paris Rehabilitation Center.
He was a native of Carden Bottom in
Yell County, son of the late Walter Franklin and Doris Mae Magness
Farrer of Rison, retired Army non-commissioned officer having served 22
years in the Army Medical Corps, also served combat tours in Korea and
Vietnam after having entered the United States Army in 1946, before
retiring in 1967 in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was a former owner of a
welding supply business in Pine Bluff prior to moving to Scranton in
1977. He graduated from the police academy in 1978, was employed for
the Logan County Sheriff’s Department and Paris Police Department,
served as a justice of the peace and on the Logan County Quorum Court,
poultry and cattle farmer, and was preceded in death by four brothers,
James Walter Farrer, Hoy Franklin Farrer, Theron Roy Farrer, and
Charles Morgan Farrer.
Survivors include his wife, Lilah
Sue Farrer; two sons, Daniel Farrer and John Farrer, both of Scranton;
two daughters, Gail Bottoms of Russellville and Carla Krohn of
Clarksville; eight grandchildren, Lena, Matthew, Stuart, Melody, Sean,
Rachel, John Dillon and Ian; seven great-grandchildren, Madeline, Reid,
Bennett, Owen, Mitchell, Alyssa, Evan and Sarah; one brother, Bobby
Farrer; and one sister, Geraldine Wallace.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Roller Funeral Home in Paris with Daniel Farrer
officiating. Burial will be in Wares Chapel Cemetery at Dublin.

Waymond Phillips Price
Waymond Phillips Price, 82, of
Russellville, AR, died Monday, January 2, 2012, at his cabin near
Pelsor, AR.
The son of Clarence Phillips and
Velma Moore Saner he was born September 2, 1929, in Russellville, AR.
He worked for many years with International Shoe Company and the
Arkansas Highway Transportation Department while later retiring from
both entities. He was a charter member of the Pope County Mounted
Patrol. He enjoyed hunting, camping, spending time with his grandsons
and great-granddaughters, and watching sports. He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Survivors include his son, Tracy
Price and wife, Rita, of Lamar; two grandsons, Justin Price and wife,
Holly, of Russellville and Scott Price and wife, Ann, of Lamar; two
great-granddaughters, Rhylie Jo and Aybrie Price of Lamar; two cousins,
Dean Dlugosh and wife, Becky, of Russellville and Dewayne Dlugosh and
wife, Sandy, of Lamar.
Graveside service was at 10 a.m.
Friday, January 6, 2012, at Oakland Cemetery in Russellville. Reverend
Gerald Chenowith officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of
Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation was from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on
