Artie Elkins
Artie Elkins, 87, of Clarksville died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, in
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Johnson County, daughter of the late Dwight and
Orda Dake Kendall, widow of Roland Elkins, retired employee of
Clarksville Footwear, and member of Harmony Presbyterian Church and
Women's Association and past elder of the church.
Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Kenney and Janet Elkins of
Clarksville; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Argie Kendall of
Clarksville and Orlie and Jeanette Kendall of Tulsa, Okla.; two other
sisters-in-law, Ruby Coffee and Bea Elkins, both of Clarksville; and
three grandchildren, Renae Elkins of Bentonville and Ryan Elkins and
Randa Elkins, both of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Harmony Presbyterian
Church with Rev. Bill Woodard officiating.
Burial was in Harmony Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral
Home.
Active pallbearers were Kenneth Coffee, Harold Hyden, Roy Elkins, Mike
Kendall, Steve Kendall, and John Patterson.
Honorary pallbearer was David Kendall.
Calvin C. Reeves
Calvin Coolidge Reeves, 77, of Pea Ridge died Wednesday, March 17,
2004, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County.
A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Henry Bennet and
Minnie Loy Crisp Reeves, World War II Army veteran stationed in
Germany, retired from Daisy Manufacturing in Rogers, attended Westside
Baptist Church in Pea Ridge, and was preceded in death by two sisters,
Lillian Reeves and Marie Reeves; one half-sister, Clara Reeves; and
three brothers, Robert Vance Reeves, William McKinley Reeves, and
Herman Eugene Reeves.
Survivors include his widow, Velma Rounds Weaver Reeves; five sons,
James Reeves and Marvin L. Weaver, both of Pea Ridge; Terry Reeves of
Garfield, and Joel Reeves and Norman R. Weaver, both of Seligman; two
daughters, Debbie Hickman of Rogers and Joyce Ivy of Pea Ridge; one
sister, Vernie Goldsmith of Russellville; 25 grandchildren; and
numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Pea
Ridge with Pastor Anthony Lane officiating. Burial was in Mossville
Cemetery near Jasper.
David E. Cordell
David Eugene Cordell, 67, of Fort Smith, father of Gina Oberste of
Clarksville, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at his home.
He was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Robert and Myrtle
Ethridge Cordell, carpenter, member of Union 690, and a Navy veteran.
He is survived by one other daughter, Lanesa Cordell of Altus; one
sister, Nan Dangers of Ozark; three brothers, Gary Barham of
Washington, Butch Cordell of Ozark, and Richard Cordell of North
Carolina; and four grandchildren, Chandra Oberste, Nathan Oberste, and
Christopher Oberste, and Lakota Cordell.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at
Highland Cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Grandchildren served as pallbearers.
Dianna Lee Hunt
ianna Lee Hunt, 56, of Lamar died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at her home.
She was born in Berkley, Calif., graduate of John Swett High School in
Crockett, Calif., attended the Baptist Church, and former employee of
Sara Lee Hosiery.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph Gonzales Jr. of Cummings, Ga.,
John Gonzales of Little Rock, and D. J. Reid of Clarksville; mother,
Emogene Hunt of Clarksville; father and stepmother, Otis Lee and Pat
Hunt of Sallisaw, Okla.; one sister, Barbara Hunt of Lamar; two
brothers, Otis Wayne Hunt of Clarksville and Bob Hunt of Sallisaw,
Okla.; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, at
Knoxville Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Brown officiating. Arrangements
were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Dothula Stone
Dothula Stone, 86, of Hagarville died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at her
home.
She was a native of Malden, Mo., daughter of the late Scott Allen and
Dothula Alexander Marshall, 1935 graduate of West Plains (Missouri)
High School, widow of Dewey Stone, Baptist, and was preceded in death
by two brothers, Bill and Don Marshall; one granddaughter, Margie
McCraw; and two great-grandchildren, J. T. and Mariam McCraw.
She is survived by one daughter, Judith Terry of Lamar; one son, Paul
Allen Stone of Hagarville; six grandchildren, Fred Terry of Lamar,
Clara Gordon of Magazine, Frances Terry of West Memphis, and Cheryl,
Patricia and Daniel Terry of Lamar; and 11 great-grandchildren, Josh,
Jake, Hailey and Hannah Terry of Lamar, Samantha, Emily and Abigail
McCraw of Deer, Paige, Shelby and Bryce Gordon of Magazine, and Lakyn
Sanders of Lamar.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Dennis Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Fort Douglas
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Winfield, Fred Terry, Daniel Terry, Shane
Gordon, Gene McCraw, and David Graves.
Dwayne Tilley
Dwayne Tilley, 67, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, in Springfield, Ore.
A former resident of Lamar, he was a son of the late Freed and Josie
Tilley of Lamar, 1954 graduate of Lamar High School, and was preceded
in death by two brothers, Ernest Tilley of Fort Worth, Texas, and
Elbert Tilley of Lamar.
Survivors include his widow, Donna Tilley; one daughter and son-in-law,
Terri and Gordon Goodell of Cottage Grove, Ore.; three grandsons, Bill
and Aaron Hackett and Michael Goodell, all of Cottage Grove, Ore.; one
granddaughter, Stephanie Goodell of Cottage Grove, Ore.; three brothers
including his twin, Wayne Tilley of Paducah, Ky., Larry Tilley of
Granbury, Texas, and Harry Tilley of Lamar; two sisters, Sue Hatchett
and Loretta Crotts, both of Lamar; and several nieces and nephews.
The body was cremated.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 23, in Springfield, Ore.,
and another one will be held in Lamar at a later date.
Emma Gifford
Emma Gifford, 99, of Haysville, Kan., died Wednesday, March 17, 2004,
at Westview Manor in Derby, Kan.
She was a native of Auburn, Kan., daughter of the late Walter R. and
Carrie Hoppe Black, widow of Wilbur M. Gifford, and was preceded in
death by one son, Kenneth; one son-in-law, Voris (Doc) Lynch; and two
brothers, Walter and Charles Black.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Carl and Verna
Gifford of Haysville, Kan., and Delbert Gifford and Bob and Jan
Gifford, all of Clarksville; one daughter, Irene Lynch of Mulvane,
Kan., one other daughter-in-law, Barbara Gifford of Haysville, Kan.;
one sister, Phebe Anderson of Auburn, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; two
stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Smith Mortuary in Derby,
Kan.

Hazel O. Taverner
Hazel Oleta Taverner, 95, of Ozone died Friday, March 19, 2004, at her
home.
She was a member of the Ozone Baptist Church, Ozone Quilting Club and
Ozone Grange, former mail carrier, widow of James Floyd Taverner,
daughter of the late Cicero and Tugie Baskin Baxter, and was preceded
in death by two sons, Leon and Paul Taverner, and one grandchild,
Timothy Taverner.
Survivors include five daughters and four sons-in-law, Beth and Carl
Robinson of Ozone, Nadine and Henry Swann of Nashville, Irene and Fred
J. Kauffeld of Clarksville, Ruth and Gil Holcomb of Schofield, Wis.,
and Louise Churchill of Dallas, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Richard and Margaret Taverner of Greenbrier and Everette and Kay
Taverner of Minden, La.; two sisters, Fern Taverner of Clarksville and
Betty Hignite of Baytown, Texas; 21 grandchildren; 30
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at Ozone Baptist Church with
Rev. Phillip Baxter, Rev. Matt Nowatney, and Rev. Bob Harrod
officiating.
Burial was in Ozone Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral
Home.

Terry E. Breedlove
Terry Edward Breedlove, 41, of Clarksville died Tuesday, March 16,
2004, at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Virgil and Lola Hickey
Morrow and Tom and Laura Martin Breedlove.
Survivors include his widow, Jamie Rose Richmond Breedlove; parents,
Fred E. and Kathryn Morrow Breedlove of Coal Hill; one sister, Sherry
Breedlove Duncan of Lamar; one nephew, Daniel Dunlap; and two nieces,
Nikki Dunlap Sims and Brittany Duncan.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 18, at Roller-Cox Chapel with
Rev. John Kindrix and Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Hess
Cemetery at Coal Hill.

William W. Cone
William Willard (Jim) Cone, 60, of Coal Hill died Wednesday, March 17,
2004, at his home.
He was an employee of Bright Harvest, Army veteran, and son of the late
William J. and Wanda Young Cone.
Survivors include his widow, Rebecca Sue Cone; three daughters, Lorene
Cone and Louise Bryant, both of Texas, and Ava Sue Wiseman of Fort
Smith; three sons, William Cone and T. J. Cone, both of Texas, and
Eddie Wayne Hays of Arkansas; two brothers, Landy Cone of Colorado and
Dean Cone of Arkansas; seven grandchildren; and one uncle, A. E. Young
of Missouri.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev.
John Chastain and Rev. Mark Rainwater officiating. Burial was in Carter
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eddie Lindsey, Brian Fetters, Doug Tate, Everett
McAlister, Johnny Flinn, and Tommy Fraser.
Patrick Hogan, O.S.B.
Brother Patrick Hogan, O.S.B., 85, monk of Subiaco Abbey, died Sunday,
March 21, 2004, in the Abbey Health Center where he had resided the
past seven years. He was born in Lebanon, Mo., to Philip and Elizabeth
Kuhn Hogan and was named Michael Arthur.
He received his education in the public schools of Lebanon, served in
the U. S. Army from 1942-45, and was awarded a World War II Victory
Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the American Campaign Medal.
He professed his vows as a monk of Subiaco Abbey on March 19, 1950, and
for five decades served Subiaco Abbey as refectorian, groundskeeper,
house custodian, laundry worker, and for a time assisted in the care of
the monks.
A Christian Wake service was held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 22. The
Liturgy of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March
23, in St. Benedict Church at Subiaco. Interment was in the Abbey
Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
