Arvin T. Massengale
Arvin Theodore Massengale Sr., 88, of Harrison, father of Arvin Massengale
Jr. of Hartman, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, in Hillcrest Nursing Home.
A native of Wilkerson, he was a son of the late William Thomas and Nancy
Jane "Nanny" (Hoover) Massengale, retired farmer, businessman,
minister, owner-operator of M&M Equipment Company, and a member of
the First Baptist Church of Harrison and Gideon International.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella Massengale; one daughter,
Charline Kelton; three brothers, Tillford, Sanford, and Arkie Massengale;
and three sisters, Delphia Henderson, Dovie Shaddox, and Ava Bailey.
He is survived by three other sons, F. M. Massengale of Green Forest,
Carroll Lee Massengale of Cedarville, and Garrie Massengale of Searcy;
three daughters, Wanda Cozort of House Springs, Mo., Rita Vaught of Scranton,
and Anna Jo Smith of Waldron; two sisters, Sylvia Wilson of Rogers and
Anna Mae Crow of Harrison; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at Holt Memorial Chapel
in Harrison with Rev. Jerry Scitern and Rev. Mitchell Scitern officiating.
Burial will be in Alpena Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Gertrude Nelson
Gertrude Nelson, 96, of Clarksville died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Cove Creek, widow of Carroll Nelson, member of the
Church of Christ, and was preceded in death by two daughters, Doris Jean
Nelson and Zelmodean Nelson Dobbs.
Survivors are one son, John Nelson of Clarksville; seven grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Skip Davis officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bryan Dobbs, Johnny Dobbs, Eric Moore, Bark Moody,
Phillip Davis, and Varnel Nelson.
Herbert G. Jackson
Herbert George Jackson, 86, of Coal Hill died Sunday, May 12, 2002,
at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
He was a coal miner and son of the late James and Lou Frye Jackson.
Survivors are his widow, Edyth Roberds Jackson; three daughters, Donna
Gattis and Sharon Estep, both of Coal Hill, and Phyllis Smith of North
Little Rock; one son, James H. Jackson of Coal Hill; 11 grandchildren;
and 21 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the
Coal Hill Cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were
under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Randy Leflore, Greg Estep, Chance Beeman, Keith Jackson,
Scott Jackson, Brock Smith, Cory Tedford, and Zach Reeves.
Mike Felkins
Mike Felkins, 53, of Little Rock died Friday, May 10, 2002.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Minnie Marie Gean Felkins,
graduate of the University of the Ozarks with a degree in accounting, and
longtime employee of Western Foods.
Survivors include his father, George Felkins of Clarksville; one brother
and sister-in-law, Gary and Shirley Felkins of Clarksville; four sisters
and two brothers-in-law, Patsy and Ed Paul of Ellijay, Ga., June Binam
and Marcie and Claude Dell Hall, all of Clarksville, and Judy Stewart of
Little Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are pending at Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock.

Richard W. Knotts
Richard Wayne Knotts, 57, of Ozone died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at his
home.
He was a farmer and son of the late Otto Gooden.
Survivors are one daughter, Nela Kay Knotts Bennett of Parson, W. Va.;
three sons, Clayton Allen Knotts II of Akron, Ohio, and Richard Wayne Knotts
and Charles J. Knotts, both of Parson, W. Va.; mother, Belvie Moore Gooden
of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Linda Forsyth of Oklahoma City, Okla., and
Donna Knotts; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the Oark
Community Building with Tim Vanderford officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
