Jerry L. Miller, 60, of Baxter Springs, Kan., died Tuesday, June 22,
1999, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo.
He was a native of Blue Rapids, Kan., son of the late Stanley Fredrick
Miller, and a former resident of Tulsa, Okla.
Survivors include his mother, Margery Ellen Miller of Springfield, Mo.;
sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Horner Askins of Springfield, Mo.;
two nieces and spouses, Twyla and Rod Lindsey of Greensboro, N. C., and
Tina and Mike Kellerstrass of Springfield, Mo.; one great-nephew, Tanner
Kellerstrass of Springfield, Mo.; and two great-nieces, Madison Kellerstrass
of Springfield, Mo., and Taylor Lindsey of Greensboro, N. C.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Derfelt's
Baxter Chapel in Baxter Springs, Kan., with Rev. John Swadley officiating.
The body was cremated.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
Mrs. Juanita Thompson, 82, of Clarksville died Wednesday, June 23, 1999,
at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a native of Hartman, daughter of the late Burl and Jennie Nelson
Phillips, widow of Audie Lee and Cecil Thompson, and member of the Fernwood
Assembly of God Church.
Survivors three sons, Bob Lee of Hot Springs, Bill Lee of Van Buren,
and Mike Lee of Greenwood; two sisters, Geneva Dahms of Hot Springs and
Lois Patterson of Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Kolb, Steven Lee, Jason Lee, Varnel Nelson, Larry Griffin, and Ken Nelson.
Maurice Wayne Carter, 74, of Fort Smith, brother of James Carter of
Clarksville, died Monday, June 21, 1999, in Fort Smith.
He was a native of Altus, son of the late Elmer and Archie Garner Carter,
father of the late James Allen Carter, a retired electrician for the International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 700, a member and past president
of I.B.E.W. Local 700, an instructor with the Fort Smith Electrical J.A.T.C.
for 30-plus years and a member of the Fort Smith Electrical Examining Board.
He wired the first generator at the Ozark dam and supervised the wiring
of the SGL Carbon Corporation.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Company B 71st Infantry
Regiment, 44th Infantry Division. He saw action in northern France, Germany
and Austria and was awarded three Battle Stars and the Combat Infantryman's
Badge. He was a member of Midland Heights United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Margaret Ann Doss Carter; two sons,
Carroll and Burl of Fort Smith; one sister, Joan Shuller of McAlester,
Okla.; four other brothers, Donald Carter of Tulsa, Okla., Earl Carter
of Sherwood, Claud Carter of Ozark, and Carroll Carter of Fort Smith; and
two grandsons, Burl Carter Jr. of Fort Smith and Chris Carter of Fayetteville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Midland Heights United
Methodist Church with burial in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of
Edwards Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Harold Blaylock, Jim Jones, Eddie Williams,
Hugh Fite, Pat Muncy, and Bink Shaver.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers Local 700.

Mrs. Nellie Crowden, 72, a former resident of Lamar, died Tuesday, June
22, 1999, at her home in La Russell, Mo.
She was a native of Wichita, Kan.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene (Big Boy) Crowden; one son, David
McClean of Rose Hill, Kan.; three daughters, Joan Ratcliff and Sandra Artelt,
both of Wichita, Kan., and Carla Sue Johnson of Rose Hill, Kan.; five sisters;
11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Friday, June 25, at Housh Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Mo., with burial in Harvey Cemetery west of La Russell, Mo.
Mrs. Patricia Ann Jones, 70, of North Little Rock died Friday, June
25, 1999, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Dr. Jacob O. and Melba French Ware, native
of Kings Mountain, N. C., widow of LTC (retired) Walter Carroll Jones Jr.,
graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, retired social
worker having been employed by the state of Arkansas and the state of California,
member of the Lamar United Methodist Church, and associate member of the
Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, where she was also
a member of the Builders Sunday School class.
She is survived by four sons, Walter C. Jones III of Fremont, Calif.,
Ronald D. Jones of Jonesboro, Ga., Michael Melborn Jones of Bryant, and
Patrick Wilson Jones of North Little Rock; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the Lamar United Methodist
Church with Rev. Mike Nease and Dr. Michael M. Jones officiating.
Burial was in Lamar Cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service
of Russellville.
Active pallbearers were Bob Cogburn, Carroll Cogburn, Wayne Jones Jr.,
David Jones, Jacob Jones, and Ken DelVecchio.
Honorary pallbearers were George Overbey Jr., Wayne Jones Sr., Joe Mays
and Doug Godhelp.

Taylor Paige Bean, one-month-old daughters of Randall Craig Jones and
Rhonda Michelle Bean of Clarksville, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at her
home.
Other survivors include one sister, Jenna Jones of the home; two brothers,
Christopher Jones of the home and Joshua Bean of the home; grandparents,
Patricia and Gwen Woods, Jim and Freda Bean, and Bud and Peggy Jones, all
of Clarkville; great-grandmother, Realon Bean of Clarksville; and numerous
aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Roller-Cox Chapel
with Carl Wayne Holland officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Jones, James Hall, Larry Hall, Mike Bean,
and Eugene Hill.
