Mrs. Alice Jean Harper Chapman, 56, of Chickalah died Tuesday, Oct.
12, 1999, at her home.
She was a former resident of Coal Hill, native of Liberty, Ariz., daughter
of the late Ted and Eula Lucille Barnett O'Brien, and was preceded in death
by two sons, James Lynn Odell and David Allen Hughes, and one brother,
Teddy Joe O'Brien.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Chapman; one son and daughter-in-law,
Randy and Mary Hughes of Coal Hill; four daughters and three sons-in-law,
Charlotte and Willie Turlangton of Avinger, Texas, Debra and Rick Elms
of Coal Hill, Susan Carroll of Paulden, Ariz., and Angela and Chris McCain
of Dardanelle; one brother, Jimmy O'Brien of Chowchilla, Calif.; nine grandchildren
and spouses, Lewis and Dawn Hedges Jr. of Huntsville, Kristy and Martin
Kirk of Avinger, Texas, Melinda Hughes of Houston, Stacy Elms of Mississippi,
Jeannie Elms, David Elms and Brian Elms, all of Coal Hill, Kylie McCain
of Dardanelle and Felicia Boyd of Paulden, Ariz.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at the
Macedonia Cemetery with John McCourt officiating. Arrangements were under
the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Stacy Elms, David Elms, Brian Elms, Tony Hedges, Martin Kirk, and Chris McCain.
Mrs. Beulah Pauline Lollis Harmon, 83, a resident of Parks Edge Nursing
Center in Tulsa, Okla., died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999.
She was a former resident of Johnson County, daughter of the late James
Harley and Mattie Elizabeth Jones Lollis, attended Lamar School, and was
preceded in death by four sisters, Vivian, Florence, Daisy and Wilma and
four brother, William, Jackson, Charley and Frank.
Survivors include her husband, Arvil Earl Harmon; one daughter and son-in-law,
Janice and John Steed of Tulsa, Okla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger
F. and Madeline Smith Harmon and Randy W. and Carol Neher Harmon, all of
Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Eula Faucett of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Juanita
Young of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother and two sisters-in-law, James Harley
(Jim) and Pamela Powell Lollis of Henryetta, Okla., and Viola Wright Lollis
of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren and spouses, Jonalyn and Terry Smith,
Michele Steed-Ferguson, Kenneth and Melva Batchelder Steed, Robert and
Heidi Harmon, Nanci and Eric Kissel and Justin Harmon; ten great-grandchildren,
Vanessa, Cynthia and Brent Smith, Jesse Ferguson, Craig Steed, Angela and
Audrey Stairs, Andrew and Joseph Kissel and Shayla Nichelle Long; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Dawson Free Will Baptist Church in Tulsa, Okla., followed by interment in Lamar Cemetery under the direction of Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home of Skiatook, Okla.
John (Peanut) Hurst, 61, of Coal Hill died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, in
Clarksville.
He was a native of Coal Hill, son of the late Joyce and Thelma Hurst,
and a farmer.
He is survived by two daughters, Marietta Stokes of Clarksville and
Pam Presley of Fort Smith; three sons, Rodney Hurst of Omaha, Neb., John
B. Hurst of Ozark, and Randy Reed of Fort Smith; two sisters, Mary Ann
Shula of Miami, Fla., and Colleen Russell of Little Rock; two brothers,
James David Hurst of Coal Hill and Charles Luke Hurst of Tulsa, Okla.;
15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with
Harry Stokes officiating. Burial was in Hess Cemetery at Coal Hill.
Active pallbearers were Glen Forbes, Burl Keller, Angel Hernandez, Don
Langston, Bill Meeler, and Billy Bert Reynolds.
Honorary pallbearers were Don Evans, Joe Bob Martin, and Tommy Dean Hurst.
Kenneth H. Quaile, 75, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999,
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a Baptist, retired insurance salesman, son of the late Preston
and Ferrol Harmon Quaile, former resident of Searcy, former Marine, and
was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Fae Rene Glover.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan Quaile of North Little Rock; and
three sisters, Geri Thompson of Houston, Texas, Elizabeth Spanke of Clarksville,
and Virginia Esparza of Riverside, Calif.
The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Kenneth K. Snyder, 81, of Ola died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at the Dardanelle
Hospital.
He was a native of Newkirk, Okla., son of the late Roy C. and Mildred
Poland Snyder, graduate of Green Forest High School and Arkansas Tech University,
a poultry and cattle farmer, and was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel
Manuel Snyder, one brother, Harold Snyder, and one sister, Lucile Decocq.
He is survived by one brother, Frank Snyder of Green Forest; two sisters,
Lois Cannon of El Dorado and Jean Tinsley of Bonner Springs, Kan.; foster
granddaughter, Lesley Butt of Dardanelle; and several nieces and nephews
including Junior and Lester Mans of Clarksville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Dardanelle with Rev. Wylie Jones officiating. Interment will be in Brearley Cemetery.
Mrs. Lois C. Shoeffler, 88, of Hartman died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999,
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Oklahoma, daughter of the late Newt and Ruth Tipton
Adams, widow of Lawrence Shoeffler, and member of the Fernwood Assembly
of God Church.
She is survived by one nephew, Ralph Adams of Hartman; two great-nieces,
Debbie Taylor of Albertville, Ala., and Treon Lasiter of Russellville;
and several cousins.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Elder Harold Stumbaugh and Gene Yeager officiating. Burial was in
the Hartman Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Norman Weatherton, Alan Walker, John Burke, Jackie Roberts, Dean Yeager, and James Hays.
Mrs. Mary Ellen Richardson, 95, of Lamar died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999,
at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late Jim and Melvina Tucker, widow of Sanford
Dewey Richardson, member of the Assembly of God Church, and was preceded
in death by one daughter, Wanda Mack, four brothers, James Richardson,
Glen Richardson, Dwight Richardson, and Andy Joe Richardson, and one grandchild,
Sandy Richardson.
She is survived by two daughters, Mildred McCastlin of St. Charles,
Mo., and Barbara Stonebarger of Dover; one son, Sedric M. Richardson of
Lamar; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev.
W. A. Berg officiating. Burial was in Lamar Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jay Westley Richardson, David McCastlin, Glen Richardson, Dwight Richardson, Steve Richardson, Sedric Lynn Walker, Brian Dale Walker, and Ralph Kelly Karnes.
Mike G. Wilson, 54, of Fort Smith, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at his
home.
He was a retired employee of Riverside Furniture, member of Central
Presbyterian Church, former secretary-treasurer of the Fort Smith Quarterback
Club, and former president of the Westark Century Club.
Among the survivors are his widow, Mrs. Linda Wilson; one daughter,
Adrienne Hickey of Fayetteville and her husband, Jody, who is a former
resident of Johnson County; one son, Russ and his wife, Mary, of Memphis,
Tenn.; one granddaughter, Madeline Hickey; one grandson, Cody Wilson; mother,
Christine Holt of Metairie, La.; one sister; and one brother.
Graveside services and burial were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at
the Oak Cemetery pavilion with a memorial service immediately following
at Central Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards
Funeral Home.

Oliver (Ed) Risk Jr., 79, of Clarksville died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999,
at his home.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a Catholic, member of the Knights
of Columbus, Toast Master International and Farmington, Mich., Players
Guild, retired from Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Mich., son of the late
Jane Dowdell and Oliver E. Risk Sr., and was preceded in death by two sons.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Hazel L. Johnson Risk; one daughter
and son-in-law, Beverly and Jim Ragland of Farmington Hills, Mich.; three
sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Bobette Risk of Fayetteville, John
and Annie Risk of Penngrove, Calif., and James and Andrea Risk of Farmington
Hills, Mich.; one sister, Shirley Moore of Dearborn, Mich.; one brother,
Arthur Risk of Sun City, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Rosary was at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Roller-Cox Chapel. Funeral
will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church
with Father William Wewers officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery.
