Arthur Brooks
Arthur Wayne (Possum) Brooks, 71, of Mulberry, father of Debbie Richardson of Clarksville, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at the Van Buren hospital.
He was a native of Mulberry, son of the late Joseph Arthur and Letha Adell Moore Brooks, retired truck driver, and of the Assembly of God faith.
Survivors include his companion, Arlene Agee of Mulberry; one other daughter, Teresa Goodnoh of Mulberry; two grandchildren, Ryan Barnett and Dustin Goodnoh; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Ocker Chapel of Alma with Rev. Aaron Medlock officiating. The body was cremated.
Barbara Lederman
Barbara Lederman, 72, of Lexa, whose son, Kenneth George Lederman Jr. and wife, Peggy Lynn, reside in Clarksville, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, in Memphis, Tenn.
She was born in West Helena to the late Curdy Perkins Jackson and Sara Nina Esther Holland Jackson and was a retired teller for Helena National Bank.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth Lederman Sr.; one other son, Curtis Charles Lederman of Lexa; one daughter, Nina Kathryn Herrington and husband, Stanley, of West Helena; four grandchildren, Ken B. Lederman, Amy K. Hamlett, Keysha LeAnn Wyssbrod, and Stan C. Herrington; two sisters, Betty Cullum of Paragould and Juanita Oxner of Jacksonville; one brother, C. P. Jackson of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena.
Bobby Jack Covert
Our husband, brother, father and friend, Bobby Jack Covert, 74, of Altus, AR went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 29, 2009, in Fort Smith, AR.
He was born in the Greenwood Community south of Altus, AR on the first day of July, 1935, to the late John Mark Covert and Mary Bonnie Raney Covert. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Larry Leon Covert, and two sisters, Sybil Covert Smith and Juanita Covert Starr.
Bobby Jack lived most of his life in the Altus area except for his two tours of duty in the United States Army in Washington State. He served in D Battery, First Missle Batallion, 43rd Artillery, a part of the Ajax Missle Defense Program. Military honors included sharpshooter with rifle and expert with carbine (probably attributable to his hunting ducks, squirrels and other game in the Greenwood Bottoms during his youth.) He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1961.
Returning to Arkansas after the birth of their first child, Patricia, he was a truck driver until 1975 when he was elected to the position of Franklin County Circuit Clerk serving for two terms. He was self-employed in the wallpaper business until his retirement in 1999. Bobby Jack became a Christian early in life and answered the call to the ministry in 1992. As a member of the Mike Barber Prison Ministries, he conducted a ministry at the Franklin County Jail and then began ministering in state penitentiaries throughout Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana. Eventually being certified to minister to death-row inmates. He was at the time of his death the pastor of Liberty Church near Altus, AR, a position he held for eight years.
He leaves a legacy of hard work, honesty, integrity and Christian love. His greatest delight was the bride of his youth, Alfreda, their children and grandchildren. We will honor him for his example and his faith, and we will miss him until we see him again.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2009, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with burial at 1 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alfreda Christine Parker Covert, originally from Grenades Chapel, AR; two daughters, Tricia Diane Pennington and husband, Michael, of Altus and Chris McCain and husband, Mack, of Ozark; one son, Mark Allen Covert of Altus, AR; two sisters, Johnnie Lois Covert Bartlett of Ozark and Betty Covert McDonald of Fort Smith; and grandchildren, Euticha Beth Pennington Hawkins and husband, Mark, of Glouschester, VA; Joseph Michael Pennington of Starkville, Miss; Gordon William McCain III of Fayetteville, AR; Emmarie McCain of Little Rock, AR; Zachary Allen Covert of Altus, AR; and Jacob (Jake) Covert of Altus, AR.
The family visited with friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 W. Commercial, Ozark, AR.

Brenda Fox
Brenda Fox, 44, of Lamar died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
She was a native of Crescent City, Calif., daughter of the late Floyd Olen Fox, employee of Bright Harvest Foods, and of the Seventh-day Adventist faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Ashley Nichole Melson of Lamar; one son, Adam Bagsby of Clarksville; mother, Bonnie Fox of Lamar; and one sister, Jeanette Deer and husband, Greg, of Washington.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Russell Cemetery at Ozone with Pastor Ross Sawyer officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Carl Holland, Gary Ledford, JR Bagsby, Deven Bagsby, Johnny Bagsby, and Alan Chenault.
Evelyn J. Wofford
Evelyn J. Coleman Wofford, 92, of Ozark died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
She was born March 11, 1917, in Elisbon, Louisiana to Ed and Bettie Peterson Coleman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Curtis Wofford. They owned and operated the Nu-Way Cleaner and Laundry Mats in Ozark for numerous years.
She is survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-laws, Auzie and Phyllis Wofford of Russellville, AR. Chella Stokes of Ozark; niece, Betty Crews of Nashville, AR; niece and husband, Wilda and Wayne Davis of Ozark; nephew and wife, Robert and Debra Wofford of Ozark; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel located at 2315 West Commercial, in Ozark with Rev. Keith Dodson officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at Ozark.
Pallbearers will be men of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark: Stan Ott, John Noggle, John Robison, Jimmie Thompson, Bob Bevil, Harold Dickerson and Judge Joe Powell.

Hazel Trantham
Hazel Trantham, 88, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.
A native of Harmony, she was a daughter of the late Chester P. and Bernie King Hartlein, widow of William. P. (Bill) Trantham, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Dean and Dane Hartlein.
She is survived by one daughter, Paula Campbell and husband, Merle, of Eufaula, Okla.; one son, Loyd Trantham and wife, Darla, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandchildren, Nicholas and Jennifer Trantham and Debra Harmon; and one great-grandchild, Jordon Harmon.
Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Harmony Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
J. C. Case
J. C. Case, 66, of Ozark died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Fort Smith.
He was born at Salus to James and Evon Martin Case, employee of Butterball, turkey grower, member of the Old Country Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Vicy Jane Case.
Survivors include one daughter, Vickie Lantz of Altus; one son, Jerry Case of Coal Hill; one sister, Gloria Sue Sams of Hartman; three brothers, L. V. Case of Altus and Randy Markes and Danny Markes, both of Ozark; seven grandchildren, Danielle Rinke, J. W. Case, Nick Case, Maddie Case, Crystal Lantz, Rachelle Lantz, and Russell Lantz; and one great-grandchild, Dakota Deatherage.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Johnson County.

Jerry Hall
Jerry C. Hall, 49, of Ozark, whose daughter and son-in-law, Tisha and Robert Bartlett, reside in Clarksville, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.
He was a retired pipeline construction equipment operator, son of the late Cliff Hall and Reba Cox Hall, attended Oak Bend Baptist Church, member of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Jessica Dawn Montgomery.
Other survivors include his wife, Tammy Elizabeth Wood Hall; one son, Charles (Charley) Hall of Ozark; one daughter-in-law, Jamie Hall of Ozark; three brothers, Lewis Hall of Georgia, Everett Hall of South Carolina and Artmus Hall and wife, Janie, of Ozark; and five grandchildren, Robert Brock Bartlett, Lexi Dawn Bartlett, Reed Jerry Bartlett, Brennan Charles Hall and Addison Elizabeth Hall.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Carroll Squires officiating. Burial was in Cemetery Ridge Cemetery at Ozark.

John W. (Jay) Sears, 79, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at his home.
He was a native of Ozone, son of the late George and Jennie Mae Case Sears, and a mechanic.
He is survived by three daughters, Shelby Anglin of Booneville, Freda Wilson of Fort Smith and Joyce Lovell of Hartford; two sons, Johnny Parton of Coal Hill and Eddie Sears of Hunt; three stepdaughters, Regina Marrs of Lexington, N. C., Sonja Yates of Clarksville, and Tammy Teague of Batesville; five stepsons, Mike Parton and Steve Parton, both of Hunt, Bobby Parton of Oklahoma, and Doug Willis and Donnie Willis, both of Clarksville; two sisters, Olive Smedley of Springdale and Annabelle Moore of Crescent, Okla.; two brothers, Frank Charles Sears and Oscar Lee Sears, both of Hartford; 26 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Marvin E. Warren
Marvin Eugene Warren, 79, of Clarksville died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at his home.
He was a retired retail grocer, member of Trinity Chapel Pentecostal Church of God, son of the late Herman and Velma Farris Warren, and was preceded in death by one brother, Olen Warren.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Johnson and husband, Gary, of Clarksville; one son, Michael Warren and wife, Mary, of Atkins; one stepdaughter, Anita Tilley of Atkins; one stepson, John Bearden of Atkins; one brother, Al Warren of Clarksville; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Schlinker and Rev. Carl Sory officiating. Burial was in Rosetta Cemetery at Ozone.

Ruby May Hargis
Ruby May Newton Hargis, 76, of Clarksville died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, in Little Rock.
She was a member of Abundant Life Church in Russellville and daughter of the late Elmer and Emma Catherine Reese.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Hargis; two daughters, Linda Catherine Gray of Fort Worth, Texas, and Christine L. Smith of Little Rock; one son, David Earl Newton of Lake Jackson, Texas; one sister, Reba Taulbee of New Lebanon, Ohio; one brother, Robert Reese of Coors Gold, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Angie Everhart of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Seba M. Brown
Seba M. Walker Brown, 82, formerly of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, in Claremore, Okla.
She was a native of Sallisaw, Okla., daughter of the late Robert Leslie and Isaac (Harrell) Walker, former resident of Hanson, Okla., 1945 graduate of Central High School, widow of Curtis Brown, former participant of the Claremore (Oklahoma) Band Parents Club, retired employee of the women's ready to wear department of C. R. Anthony's Store in Claremore, Okla., and was preceded in death by one son, Leslie Curtis; and one sister, Hattie Smith.
Survivors include two sons, Robert P. (Pat) Brown and wife, Judy, of Claremore, Okla., and Curtis M. (Mike) Brown and wife, Jan, of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Rob and Nichole Brown, Dawna and Danny Church, Mickenzie Brown, and Wayne and Erica Brown; and great-grandchildren, Chase, Noah, Taylor, Donnie, Alex, and Allison.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw, Okla. Burial was in Akins Cemetery.
