Arlie
Eugene Warren
Arlie Eugene Warren, 77, of Teague, Texas, died Saturday, April 28,
2007, at East Texas Medical Center of Tyler, Texas.
He was a construction employee, son of the late Albert S. and Lucinda
Logan Warren, and was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Warren; one
son, Darrel James Warren; one sister, Edna Williams; and five brothers,
Charlie Lee Warren, Leather Warren, Gus Warren, Louie Warren, and Elvis
Warren.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Warren Price of Van Buren and
Brenda Warren Rowe of Donie, Texas; three sons, Ronnie A. Warren of
Hartman, Larry Eugene Warren of Houston, Texas, and Gary Warren of
Liberty, Texas; two sisters, Lois Cowan of Sacramento, Calif.,
and
Marie Kaufman of Camarillo, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel
with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Russell Cemetery at
Ozone.
Pallbearers were Jimmie Jeffries, Gary Warren, Charlie Warren, Ronnie
A. Warren, James Rowe, Brandon Holler, and Troy Warren.
Betty
Jo Paladino
Betty Jo Paladino, 77, of Clarksville passed away Wednesday, April 25,
2007, with her family at her side.
She was born August 6, 1929, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the late Josie and
Chester Barnes.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Henry A. Paladino, Lt.
Colonel, U.S.A. Retired.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who
dedicated her life to her family with deep love and compassion.
Any person who entered her life was accepted as a member of her
extended family of friends, enjoying her many talents as a
hostess and
gourmet cook. She will be unbelievably missed by all who knew and loved
her, but is now with her husband, the love of her life, lovingly
referred to as, "Honey."
She is survived by her two sons, Kevin Paladino of Lamar, and Steve
Paladino and wife, Sheryl, of Clarksville; two daughters, Kim Paladino
of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Michelle and husband, Dr. David Tanner, of
Russellville; three sisters, Marguerite Terhune of Rome, Georgia, Mary
Lewis and her husband, Harold, of Clarksville, and Carol Holman of
Clarksville; five grandchildren, Wayne and wife, Kasey Brown, Jason
Paladino, Jessica Paladino, Justin Brown, and Julie Paladino; two
stepgrandchildren, Richie Tanner and Maegan and her husband, Billy
Hampton; one great-grandchild, Madison Brown, and four
stepgreat-grandchildren, Cecelia, Gabriel, Sophia Hampton and Paizley
Bratton; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her caregivers for
the assistance they rendered.
A rosary was held on Friday, April 27, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church,
Center Ridge, at 7:00 PM.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 28, at St. Joseph's
Catholic church, at 11:00 AM.

M. Kraus
Funeral for Carolyn M. Kraus, 80, of Overland Park, Kan., who died
Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Overland Park Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center, was at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at the First Presbyterian
Church in Clarksville. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the
direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

She was a daughter of the late Walter and Mary Natho of Gillett,
received a bachelor of science degree in 1947 from Arkansas State
Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas at Conway),
served a clinical internship at Baylor University Medical Center of
Dallas, Texas, a certified member of the American Society for Clinical
Pathology, had a 40-year career as a medical technologist in both
hospitals and private practice, and was a member of the Daughters of
the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50
years, Arville E. Kraus; and one brother, Carl Natho.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Mark Bierly of
Hutchinson, Kan.; and her son and granddaughter, David and Geneva
Kraus, both of Schenectady, N. Y.
Dorothy
J. Trotter
Dorothy Josephine Trotter, 82, of Clarksville died Thursday, April 26,
2007, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Josephine Krohn Rarick,
widow of Olen M. Trotter, and was preceded in death by one brother,
Charles E. Rarick.
She is survived by one son, Dennis M. Trotter of Calgary, Alberta,
Canada; and one grandchild.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at
the Hess Cemetery at Coal Hill with Rev. Amos Pledger and Wanda Cravens
officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox
Funeral Home.

E. Newland
Estes Ellen Newland, 95, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Colorado
Springs, Colo.
She was born in Mayes County, Oklahoma, to William Buckley and Alice
Murray Rowbotham, who were former residents of Johnson County. In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Hollis Newland, and 15 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Nelda Hollar and husband, Jack, of
Farmington, N. M., and Nita Newland of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two
granddaughters, Rhonda Hollar and Rita Mayes, both of Farmington, N.
M.; three great-grandsons; and numerous cousins in the Johnson County
area.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Swan-Law
Cascade Chapel in Colorado Springs, Colo., with Rev. David Hines
officiating. Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Tuesday,
April 10, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington, N. M.

A. Coates Jr.
George Alvin Coates Jr., 55, of Hartman died Wednesday, April 25, 2007,
at Fort Smith.
He was a farmer, son of the late Jewell Frances Hockett Coates and
preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jane Coates.
Survivors include one son, Jeremy LeDeay of Macon, Mo.; father, George
Alvin Coates Sr.; one sister, Gloria Jean Parton of Hartman; one
brother, Robert Lee Roy Coates of California; and one grandchild.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Roller-Cox
Funeral Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating.

B. York
Gertrude B. York, 90, of Lamar died Friday, April 27, 2007, at Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Phillipsburg, Kan., daughter of the late Paul and
Wilhelmina Kowalenski Boethin, widow of Britt York, member of Stillwell
Bible Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by one brother, William
(Bill) Boethin.
Survivors are three daughters, Peggy Lederman and husband, Kenny, of
Lamar, Wilma Frisque and husband, Richard, of Cave Creek, Ariz., and
Diane Finfrock of Broad Channel, N. Y.; one sister, Wilma Nelms of
Krebs, Okla.; six grandchildren, Ken Lederman and Amy Lederman, both of
Lamar, Michael Reinert of Glendale, Ariz., Deanna Mielke of
Fountain
Hills, Ariz., Heather Tuck of Florida, and Britt Finfrock of Japan; and
three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Stillwell Bible Baptist
Church with Rev. Jim Goodman officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral
Home.

Thomas McSwain
H. Thomas McSwain, 87, of Rio Rancho, N. M., died Wednesday, April 18,
2007.
A native of Coal Hill, he was a son of the late Henry G. and Elma Day
McSwain, graduate of the University of Texas Medical School at
Galveston, former resident of Dallas, Texas, member of Rio Rancho
Presbyterian Church, and was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years,
Joyce McSwain.
Survivors include one son, Steven McSwain and wife, Brenda, of
Placitas, N. M.; one brother, H. G. McSwain and wife, Gean, of Fort
Smith; and two sisters, Drucilla Geisel and husband, Victor, of
Gainesville, Texas, and Ruth Brasuell and husband, John, of Eugene, Ore.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, at the Rio
Rancho Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of
Daniels Family Funeral Services.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Harold
R. Caldwell
Harold R. Caldwell, 62, of Clarksville died Sunday, April 29, 2007, in
North Logan Mercy Hospital in Paris.
A native of National City, Calif., he was a son of the late Arvin and
Hazel Cordell Caldwell, graduate of Sweetwater High School in National
City, Calif., and retired from the United States Air Force after 23
years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Caldwell; two daughters, Brenda
Hall and husband, John, of Clarksville and Jackie Algoso and husband,
Alan, of Sacramento, Calif.; three sons, Mikel Caldwell and wife,
Sophia, of Ventura, Calif., Christopher Caldwell of Greenville, Ill.,
and David Caldwell of Damascus; two brothers, Terry Rarick and wife,
Karen, of Chula Vista, Calif., and Everett Caldwell and wife, Helen, of
Orange, Calif.; four grandchildren, Nicholas Reed, Daniel Caldwell,
Jennifer Algoso and Allyson Algoso; three great-grandchildren;
aunt
and uncle, Jane and Monroe Barker of Greenwood; and numerous cousins.
The body was cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a
later date. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke
Funeral Home.

Clarke
Jane Clarke, 90, of Clarksville died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at
Clarksville Convalescent Home.
A native of Chillicothe, Mo., she was a daughter of the late
Louanne
Hamilton and Charles William Maier, widow of James Francis Clarke,
member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, and formerly operated a store
in Knoxville with her husband until his death. She was preceded in
death by one daugher, Betsy Clarke; one brother, Robert Wilson Henry;
and two sisters, Lee Vivian Henry and Mildred Virginia Henry.
She has no survivors.
Rosary service and mass were at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at Holy
Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. William Wewers, O. S. B.,
officiating.
Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery at Russellville under the direction
of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were George Overbey Jr., Johnny Woodard, Joe Hoing, Steve
Woodard, John McAuley, and Steve Rinke.

Jewell P. Pratt
Jewell Lorene Patterson Pratt, 88, of Clarksville
died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late O. M. and Robbie
Harris Patterson, widow of Cecil W. Pratt, member of Landmark
Missionary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by one daughter,
Joy Einert.
Survivors include one daughter, Patty Sue Owen of Clarksville; one son,
Wayne Pratt of Clarksville; one brother, Bill Patterson of Clarksville;
eight grandchildren, Renee Pratt Campbell, Cheryl Castleman, Lavon
Owen, S. D. Burton, Mark Pratt, and Staylon Einert, all of Clarksville,
and Standon Einert of Ozone; eight great-grandchildren; and five
great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with
Rev. Robbie Jackson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lavon Owen, Mark Pratt, Standon Einert, Staylon
Einert, Clay Dollar, and Mike Patterson.
Johanna
Santiago
Johanna Santiago, 66, of Clarksville died Friday, April 27, 2007, at
Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a daughter of the late Earl Lester and Dorothy Emerson
Day, widow of Bernardo T. Santiago, nanny, and caregiver.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond Santiago and Lona of Clarksville
and Bennie Santiago of California; two brothers, Harvey Day and James
Day of Indiana; one sister, Donna Vickers of Indiana; and three
grandchildren, Lacie Santiago, Stephanie Spaulding, and Brandon
Santiago.
The body will be cremated. Local arrangements are under the direction
of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Leon
Woodard
Leon Woodard, 88, of Silver Spring, Md., died Saturday, April 21, 2007,
at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md.
A native of Clarksville, he was the son of the late Walter Jefferson
and Mamie May Taylor Woodard, graduate of Clarksville High School and
the University of the Ozarks, served in the U. S. Navy during World War
II , saw combat action in the Pacific Theatre, and was awarded the
Bronze Star and a Presidential Unit Citation. He worked for Bell
Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey and the Glen L. Martin Company in
Baltimore, Md., and from 1966-88, he worked at NASA Goddard Space
Flight Center. He received the GSFC Public Service award for efforts on
behalf of the hearing impaired and recently he participated in the
Library of Congress Veterans History Project, chronicling his wartime
memories and experiences. He was preceded in death by one brother,
Heartsill Woodard.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Johanna Woodard; one daughter,
Nadine Huffman and husband, Mark, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons,
Jeffrey Woodard and Donald Woodard, both of Laurel, Md.; and six
grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at
Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home in Silver Spring, Md., with Rev. Gerald
Schneider officiating. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery
at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31.
Mary
H. Stuart
Mary Elizabeth Houston Stuart, 86, died April 30, 2007, in Tulsa, Okla.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late John W. and
Edna Houston, graduated from Clarksville High School in 1938, the
University of the Ozarks in 1941, and St. Mary's Hospital Nursing
School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1943. She was employed as a registered
nurse at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., from 1951 to 1958 and as
a surgical nurse for Dr. Royal E. Stuart in Tulsa, Okla., until
retirement. She was the widow of Morris Hall Watkins of Knoxville and
Dr. Royal Epps Stuart of Tulsa, Okla.
She is survived by one daughter, Lynne Watkins Allee; one son, Thomas
Morris Watkins; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three
stepchildren, Royal Kent Stuart, Lawrence Gray Stuart and Betty Stuart
Norheim; four stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the First Presbyterian
Church in Clarksville. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery under the
direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Orland
L. Long
Orland L. (Bake) Long, 82, of Russellville and Forrest City, died
Monday, April 30, 2007, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a gate attendant at the Piney Bay Federal Park, veteran of World
War II having served as a corporal in General Patton's 3rd Army
Mechanical Calvary, native of Haynes and son of the late Edgar
and
Betty Beard Long. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Robert
Beckes and G. T. Hutcherson.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Deedy Bailey of Mountain View,
Mrs. Robbie Hutcherson of Forrest City, and Sandy Beckes of Crowley,
Texas; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Stevens Funeral Home
Chapel in Forrest City with burial in Hughes Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at Stevens Funeral
Home located at 220 North Washington Street in Forrest City.

Edward Dorney
Tom Edward Dorney, 67, of Hartman died Friday, April 27, 2007, at
Hartman.
He was a self-employed sheet rock finisher, native of Hartman,
treasurer of the city of Hartman since 1982, board member of Rural Fire
District No. 4, member of NRA, son of the late Tom and Lula
Scoggins
Dorney, and was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Stover Dorney;
one grandson, Tommy Ralph; one sister, Evelyn McKenna; and three
brothers, Donald, Torrance and James (Boge) Dorney.
He is survived by two daughters, Cleta Ralph of Hartman and Cheryll
VanAken of Clarksville; one son, Jimmy Dorney of Hartman; one sister,
Martha Chavers of Knoxville; four grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel
in Ozark with Rev. Dennis Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Kendall
Cemetery north of Hartman.
Active pallbearers were Gary Vaught, Bud Dixon, Rob Hadlock, Don
Davidson, Glen Drum, and Eddie Newsom.
Honorary pallbearers were Hartman City Council members, Mayor Debbie
Davenport, and the Hartman Store coffee crew.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Arkansas
Children's Hospital.
