Memorial services for Ada Lou King, 71, of Roswell, N. M., who died
Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at her home, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.
23, at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory in Roswell, N. M.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late James Monroe
(Mon) and Ruby Leona Blackburn King, received a bachelor's degree in
biology at the University of the Ozarks, did graduate work at the
University of Arkansas and Eastern New Mexico University, taught six
years outside of RISD and 29 years in the RISD at Pecos and Edgewood
Elementaries, Roswell High in the Vocational Core for Potential
Dropouts, retired at Del Norte Elementary, and was named an
"Outstanding Educator for 1977-78" by the Roswell Optimist Club. She
was a supporter of the Roswell Humane Society and CASA.
Brandy Lynne Martin, 21, of Knoxville died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a certified nurses aide, daughter of the late Sherry Lynne
Mason Boen, and granddaughter of the late Charles Mason Jr., the late
W. T. Boen, and the late Effie Boen.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Martin; one daughter, Haven Shay
Martin of Knoxville; one son, Dawson Lee Boen of Knoxville; father,
Odell Boen of Clarksville; one brother, Christopher Lee Boen of
Clarksville; and grandmother, Nora Mason of Oark.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Salus Free
Holiness Church with Rev. Robert Boen and Rev. David Willis officiating.
Burial will be in Oark Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox
Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Brandon Charles Snider, Duston Edward Suggs,
Ronnie Darrel Turner, Justin Allen Edwards, Anthony Michael Mason, and
James Howard Hamilton.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Edward Mason, James Davis and Joe
Knuckles.
Billy Wayne Qualls, 46, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at
his home.
He was a driller.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Ann Clair Qualls; two daughters,
Casey Leigh Qualls and Leslie Dawn Qualls, both of Clarksville; one
son, Jacob Homer Qualls of Clarksville; parents, Homer Lester Qualls
and Margaret Ruth Rhett Qualls of Clarksville; one brother, Larry Don
Qualls of Clarksville; and one sister, Janet Lynne Bazyk of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Roller-Cox Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Leo Villines, Rev. Amos Pledger and Dennis Daniel
officiating. Burial was in Houston Cemetery at Alix.
Active pallbearers were Dennis Daniel, Larry Qualls, Tony Bazyk,
Wendell Woodard, Brian Clinton, Brandon Felkins, J. R. Peterson, Don
Sampley and Ray Qualls.
Chester C. Garrett, 88, of Malvern died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at St.
Joseph's Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs.
A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Dee A. and Effie M.
Garrett, 1938 graduate of Clarksville High School, and veteran of the
United States Army stationed at Aberdeen, Md., and served in World War
II. He moved to Malvern in 1952, where he was owner/operator of
Garrett's Service Station for many years prior to being employed by
Reynolds Cable Plant Maintenance Department until retirement in 1985.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Garrett; and one niece,
Danella Garrett.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Kay Wurm and husband, Mike, and
Dee Ann Scott and husband, Rusty, all of Hot Springs; three
grandchildren, Julie M. Wurm of Bryant, Keith Eifert of Conway, and
Laura E. Wurm of Hot Springs; one sister, Wilma Mincher of Clarksville;
one sister-in-law, Joanne Garrett of Conway; two nephews, Gary McGee
and Dickey Garrett; and companion, Nellie Milburn of Hot Springs.
The body will be cremated with a committal to be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home of
Malvern.
Glenna Jo Scott, 66, of Dover died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at AMI St.
Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
She was a native of Russellville, daughter of the late Charles Joe and
Irene Williams Elliott, valedictorian of the 1958 Dover High School
graduating class, member of the All Saints Episcopal Church, widow of
James A. Scott, and retired after 23 years with K-Mart having assisted
in opening the Russellville store as its personnel manager in addition
to holding various other managerial positions.
She is survived by her husband, Doyle Cobb; two sons, Allen Scott of
Bryant and Richard Cobb of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Roberta Jo
Burghardt of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jana Reidy of Palm Harbor,
Fla.; seven grandchildren, Andrew Scott and Jonathan Scott of Bryant,
Amber Burghardt and Billy Burghardt of Colorado Springs, Colo., Megan
Reidy Ferrar of Tampa, Fla., Phillip Michael Cobb and Sara E. Cobb of
Pensacola, Fla.; one great-grandchild, Nathaniel Burghardt of Colorado
Springs, Colo.; five sisters, Mary Nell Cotton of Marshall, Nadine
Ramsey of Clarksville, Thelma Irene Buky of Virginia Beach, Va., Suzie
Wetzel of Dover, and Charlene Wyatt of Sherwood; and one brother,
Charles Leonard (Bill) Elliott of Clarksville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at All Saints Episcopal
Church with Rev. Evelyn Hornaday officiating.
Burial will be in Linker Mountain Cemetery at Dover under the direction
of Humphrey Funeral Service.
Allie Kathleen Williams, 76, of Mulberry, grandmother of Brittany
Willis of Hartman, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at her home.
A native of Cecil, she was a member of the Mulberry First Assembly of
God Church and the Women's Ministries and the Alma Camp of the Gideons
Ladies Auxiliary, and retired employee of Pradco (Mulberry plant) after
18 years of service.
Survivors include her husband of 53 1/2 years, Travis Williams; one
daughter, Judy Weese of Alma; two sons, Ricky and Carl Williams, both
of Mulberry; two sisters, Helen Bean and Katie Nicklas, both of Van
Buren; three other grandchildren, Myranda Weese of Alma, Brandon Comer
of Branch, and Tasha Meinardus of Mulberry; three great-grandchildren,
Brayden Meinardus, and Lochlan and Blaine Comer; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Mulberry First
Assembly of God Church with Rev. Dade Kindrix officiating.
Burial was in New Cemetery at Mulberry under the direction of Edwards
Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Lucille V. Weishaupt Beumer, 92, of Las Vegas, Nev., widow of Thomas
Beumer of Coal Hill, died Dec. 17, 2006.
A native of Alix, she was a 1932 graduate of Ozark High School, former
resident of Chicago, Ill, where she was a hairdresser, and was preceded
in death by one son, Terrence; one granddaughter, Leslie Beumer; and
four sisters, Lillian Watkins, Helen Gean, Jack Faye Hardy, and Dorothy
Fuqua.
Mildred F. Carter, 79, of Ozark died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, in the
Ozark Nursing Home.
A native of Hartman, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Jack and
Myrtle Stepp Johnson, and member of the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Gibson and husband, Terry, of
Fort Smith and Sheila Carter Smith and husband, Bobby, of Ozark; two
sons, Harold Thomas and Jerry Thomas, both of Booneville; one sister,
Emilee Smith of California; two grandchildren, Brittany Smith of Ozark
and Heather Jones of Magazine; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan
Jones, Taylor Walker, Hayden Walker, and Braedon Walker.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with
Rev. John Hamby officiating. Burial was in Hays Chapel Cemetery.
Marie Cline, 84, of Ozark, mother of Travis Cline of Clarksville, died
Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Ozark.
She was born in Oklahoma, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Woodson Eastep,
widow of Thelbert T. Cline, and preceded in death by one son.
She is survived by six daughters, Lois Covert of Oskaloosa, Kan., Ruby
Sheppard of Bidville, Ruth McCartney, Flois McDonner and Ester Pledger
of Ozark, and Betty Richard of Altus; three other sons, Jimmy Cline of
Altus, and Rick Cline and Timmy Cline of Ozark; one sister, Veta Mae
Williams of Thackerville, Okla.; and numerous grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Shaffer Funeral Home in
Ozark with Rev. Jan Akins officiating. Burial was at Porter Cemetery in
Johnson County.
Grandchildren served as active and honorary pallbearers.
Margaret Terrill, 85, of Hartman died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at
Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
She was a native of Fernwood, daughter of the late Issac and Thelma
Goodin Tipton, widow of Wallace Terrill, and was preceded in death by
two brothers, Paul and Silas Tipton.
Survivors are two sons, Darrell Terrill and Ray Terrill and wife,
Andrea, all of Hartman; three sisters, Nadean Bradley of Clarksville,
Laverne Kerr of Hartman, and Louise Mills of Atkins; one brother, J. D.
Tipton and wife, Carolyn, of Clarksville; one grandchild, Steven Ray
Terrill of Palco, Kan.; and one great-grandchild, Whitney Terrill of
Clarksville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Burial was in Hays Chapel Cemetery.
Orlee L. Currier, 95, of Cave Junction, Ore., died Dec. 15, 2006, at
Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Ore. Interment was at Laurel
Cemetery in Cave Junction, Ore. A memorial service will be held at 2
p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Valley Evangelical Free Church in Cave
Junction, Ore., where he attended.
He was a former resident of Lamar where he was instrumental in starting
the development called Currier Acres.
He was born in Lansing, Mich., to Orlando and Eugena Currier, was on
the high school track team and became a state champion. At 14, he went
to work for Michigan Airways, was a stunt pilot and became the 874th
licensed aircraft mechanic in the United States at the age of 16. He
worked in the aircraft industry in Washington and in a missile site in
Roswell, N. M.
He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps as a belly gunner in a
B-17 bomber flying missions over Europe. He worked on the aircrafts of
Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindberg and Howard Hughes. He was also a
building contractor and real estate developer and was preceded in death
in 1999 by his wife, Dorothy Surine Currier.
He is survived by two stepdaughters.
Ruth B. Whitted, 79, of Palestine, Texas, died Jan. 19, 2007, at
Palestine Regional Hospital.
She was a native of Hagarville, daughter of the late Ira and Elsie
Birkhead, Baptist, member of the Order of the Eastern Star Crosby
Chapter No. 261 in Highlands, Texas, registered nurse for 44 years,
former director of nurses at Buffalo Hospital, and owner of Dilly Dally
Boutique in Jewett, Texas, for several years.
Survivors include her husband, E. W. Whitted; two sons, Dennis Whitted
and wife, Susan, of Highlands, Texas, and Tommy Whitted of Farrar,
Texas; one grandson, Dennis Wayne Whitted of Atascocita, Texas; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home
Chapel in Jewett, Texas, with Rev. Barron Harris officiating. Burial
was in New Hope Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Elden (Smitty) Smith, Jerry Duke, Rudy
Hibbeler, Ken Phillips, Billy Bob Evans, and Harold Sumrall.
Theodore Lee Cooley, 87, of Mountain Grove, Mo., formerly of London,
died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at St. John's Regional Health Center in
Springfield, Mo.
He was a native of Dewey, Okla., son of the late William Frederick and
Elsie Mable Doane Cooley, and former resident of California and Douglas
County in the Drury, Mo., area. He joined the CCC prior to graduating
from Mountain Grove (Missouri) High School in 1941. He also joined the
United States Horse Cavalry Division which later became the United
States 9th Armored Division and served in the European Theater, Battle
of The Bulge, and spearheaded crossing the Rhine River en route to
Berlin before being honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of
the First Christian Church in Norwood, Mo., and of the American Legion
Post 30 in Mountain Grove, Mo.
He was preceded in death by one son, Lt. William (Bill) Lee Cooley;
three brothers, Orville Cooley, Landon Cooley and Frederick Cooley; and
four sisters, Janice Wade, Hazel Schumann, Ida Cooley, and Joan
McGinnis.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret Burge Cooley; one son,
Patrick Cooley and wife, Cindy, of North Little Rock; one daughter,
Shirley Smith and husband, Joe, of Mountain Grove, Mo.; two sisters,
Frances Sutherland and Janie Hicks, both of Mountain Grove, Mo.; seven
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home
in Mountain Grove, Mo., with Rev. John Luther officiating. Burial was
in New Hope Cemetery.
Roy Wood, 77, of Clarksville died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Paris
Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was a son of the late Charles Mack and Dovie Jane Smith Wood,
grandson of the late Hillard and Rodie Wood, farmer, Baptist, Veteran
of Foreign Wars, served in the Korean War, and was preceded in death by
his wife, Clara Wood.
He is survived by one brother, Floyd Lawson Wood and wife, Dena, of
Salem, Ore.; four sisters, Dorothy Frogue and Willa Mae Taylor, both of
Clarksville, Bonnie Taylor and husband, Jack, of Santa Maria, Calif.,
and Easter Earnest and husband, Mark, of Harrison; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
