Memorial services for Amber Drake, 23, of Whitehouse, Texas, who died
Sept. 25, 2006, in Whitehouse, Texas, were at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept.
28, in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. Burial followed
at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Reynolds Cemetery at Lamar.
She was a native of Wichita, Kan., and former resident of Pleasanton
and Sulphur Springs, Texas.
Survivors include her parents, Dwight and Christy Thrasher; one son,
Trevor Lee Massey; sister, Julianne Thrasher; and grandparents, Ralph
and Stella Pruitt and Edna Dunham.
Anton (Junior) Schlaf, 80, of Scranton died Sept. 26, 2006, in Scranton.
He was a retired Cloyes Gear Plant employee, farmer, lifetime member of
Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Morrison Bluff, where he was
also a choir member, past president of Logan County Farmers Mutual Aid
and president of St. Florian Fire Insurance Company. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Mary (Etzkorn) and Anton Schlaf Sr.; one brother,
Steve Schlaf; one sister, Helen Hessney; and one great-grandson,
Malachi Diaz.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Nichols Schlaf; four daughters,
Debbie Baumgartner of Scranton, Jane Mize of Ozark, and Judy Wilhelms
and Brenda Morgan, both of Clarksville; one son, Kenny Schlaf of
Subiaco; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at Sts. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church. Mass was at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Sts. Peter
and Paul Catholic Church with burial in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Bobby Joe Duncan, 73, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, in
Antlers, Okla.
He was a native of Finley, Okla., served in the U. S. Army during the
Korean War, was a teacher and coach for 16 years and owned and operated
several businesses throughout southeastern Okla.
Survivors include his wife, Freda Rainwater Duncan; one daughter,
Connie Akard of Kosomo, Okla., three sons, Mike, Charlie and Dodd of
Antlers, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Lesa Davis of Pauls Valley, Okla.,
and Angela Clark of Colcord, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Keri Haymon of
Antlers, Okla., Cody and Cassey Akard of Kosomo, Okla., Courtney,
Clayton and Cash Duncan of Antlers, Okla., Chloe Duncan of Powderly,
Texas; three stepgrandchildren, Tyler and Kyle Davis and Dally Kay
Clark; and six great-grandchildren, Carley, Brody, Cason, Krista,
Kennedy and Mylie.
Betty Ruth Winfield Pitts, 77, of Ozone died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at
her home.
She was a daughter of the late John Henry and Martha Jane Warren
Winfield, Baptist, and was preceded in death by four brothers, Mitchel,
Menless, Ancel and Kenneth Winfield.
Survivors include her husband, Clifton O. Pitts; four sons, Bobby Joe
Daniel of Lamar, Don Pitts of Ozone, Marty Pitts of Pottsville, and Kim
Daniel of Lamar; one daughter, Teresia Palmer of Lamar; two sisters,
Evelen Boen of Lamar and Alma Casey of Arcata, Calif.; two brothers,
Omer Winfield of Oklahoma and John Winfield of Arcata, Calif.; 11
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Roller-Cox Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will be in the
Minnow Creek Cemetery.

Carl Edmund Kirshberger, 74, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006,
at his home.
He was born at Lutherville, son of the late U. M. and Helen Steuber
Kirshberger, graduate of Lamar High School, member of the First
Presbyterian Church, owner and operator of Kirshberger Service Station
for 43 years prior to retiring, former chief of the Clarksville Fire
Department where he was a member for 39 years and was preceded in death
by his wife, Uldean Johnson Kirshberger.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Kirshberger of Clarksville; one
son, Michael Kirshberger of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Kathryn
Schkade and husband, Ray, of Giddings, Texas; one brother, Walt
Kirshberger and wife, Bonnie, of Hensley; and one grandson, Gabriel
Kirshberger and wife, Kim, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the First Presbyterian
Church with Wesley Kendrick officiating.
Burial will be in Stillwell Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke
Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Pitts and past and present members of
the Clarksville Fire Department.

Donald Edward Upton, 69, of Clarksville died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at
the Clarksville Convalescent Home.
A native of Dustin, Okla., he was a son of the late Jessie James and
Dorthy Ralston Upton, Navy veteran, and was preceded in death by one
brother, Bill Upton; one sister, Peggy Davidson; and stepfather, Jim
Ford.
Survivors include one son, Terry Upton of San Diego, Calif.; two
brothers, Gary Upton of Warner, Okla., and James Ford of Knoxville; one
grandchild, Nathan Upton of San Diego, Calif.; and foster son, Patrick
Wood of Clarksville.
Earl Childers, 90, of Clarksville died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at AMI
St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Clarksville and
CCC Camp at Ozone, former employee of Eureka Brick and Tile and Lewis
and Clark Chevrolet Company, self-employed truck driver with Childers
Trucking, son of the late John Richards and Annie Hyatt Childers, and
was preceded in death by five brothers, Dewey, Vic, Claude, Burl and
Jewel Childers; and three sisters, Norma Gibre, Lois Crowder, and
Maudie Childers.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Edwards Childers; three sons, Larry
McDowell of Van Buren, Tony Childers and wife, Francine, of Dardanelle,
and Jerry Don Childers of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Jay McDowell
and fiance, Michelle Mallot, of Conway, Traci Noblett and husband,
Stacey, and Bobby Childers and wife, Mikelynn, all of Dardanelle, Julie
Tharp of Centerville, and Samantha Childers of Clarksville; and four
great-grandchildren, Anthony and Katie Parsons, Harlie Childers and
Cory Stevens.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the First Assembly of
God Church in Clarksville with Rev. Dade Kindrix, Rev. Terry Cameron,
and Wesley Kendrick officiating.
Burial will be in Lamar Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox
Funeral Home.

Edna Myrtle Hosking, 76, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006,
at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Olof J. and Eleanor Christensen, widow
of Robert Frank Krans and Albert Hosking, member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints, clerk/typist and licensed vocational nurse.
She is survived by three daughters, Valerie Jean Pentzer of
Clarksville, Candy Willes of Logan, Utah, and Susan Dillinger of
Roseboro, N. C.; two sons, Robert Krans Jr. and Sam Hosking, both of
Roseboro, N. C.; one sister, Marilynn Jensen of Rio Linda, Calif.; six
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints with burial following in the Sunset Lawn Memorial
Park in Sacramento, Calif. Local arrangements were under the direction
of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Gran Reynolds, 97, of Clarksville died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at his
home.
A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Henry B. and Selma
Nichols Reynolds, member of the Church of Christ, former owner and
operator of Reynolds Grocery and Cotton Gin in Lamar, Johnson County
tax assessor for ten years, and an employee of Farmers Bank and Trust
for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Neva Hodges
Reynolds; and one daughter, Juanita Henry.
Survivors include two daughters, Winnie McReynolds and Karen Johnson
and husband, Don, all of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Bill Henry,
Craig Parks and Kim Shook and husband, Benny, all of Clarksville, Roy
U. Slocum Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Branson, Mo., and David R. Slocum and
wife, Paula, of Shreveport, La.; 13 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; and special friends, Gladys Johnson and
family.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with John Ballard officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Bill Henry, Roy U. Slocum Jr., David R. Slocum,
Craig Parks, Lloyd Reynolds, Norman Reynolds, and Trenton Parks.
James N. York, 79, of Knoxville died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at his home.
A native of Osage, he was a son of the late John Campbell and Edna Ann
Andrews York, and a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Anna York; one daughter, Rita Ramsey of
Knoxville; one son, Jimmy C. York of Waldorf, Md.; six grandchildren;
and six great-grandchildren.
He was a son of the late James Owen and Elma Roe Wilson, employed as a
farmer and logger, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Catherine
Baughman.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jane Pendergraft Brown of Deer;
five daughters, Nadine Brown of Oregon, Tamra Nichols of Cecil, Doris
Walls of Ozark, Rebecca Jones of Charleston, and Merinda Brown of
Fallsville; eight sons, Randy Brown of Texas, Jerrime Brown of Lurton,
Johnathan Brown of Shiloh, and Ezra Brown, Timothy Brown, Micheal
Brown, Issac Brown, and Jubal Brown, all of Fallsville; one sister,
Nellie Henley of Seagoville, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Union
Grove Cemetery near Nail with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Sarah May Parker, 64, of Barling, sister of Ruby Parker of Clarksville,
died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at her home.
She was a native of Ozark, daughter of the late Alex A. and June
McMillan Parker, member of the Kingdon Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of
Clarksville, a licensed practical nurse for 30 years, and was preceded
in death by one daughter, Carmen Anderson.
Survivors include one son, William (Billy) Ray (Spud) Anderson of
Barling; one brother, Jerry L. Parker of Ozark; two other sisters, Ruth
Russell of Barling and Bonnie Sanders of Fort Smith; and several nieces
and nephews.
