Adrath Orval Wheeler, 89, of Clarksville died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006,
at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
He was a retired truck driver, World War II veteran having served with
the U. S. Navy's Construction Battalion, the CB's, son of the late
Arthur and Clemme Meek Wheeler, and was preceded in death by one
brother, Milo Wheeler.
Survivors include his wife, Etta Louise Wheeler; one daughter, Janice
Hanshaw of Tulsa, Okla.; two sons, James C. Wheeler of Clarksville and
Robert A. Wheeler of Ozone; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
and six great-great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
Ruby Christine Colburn Brown, 84, of Altus, died Friday, Sept. 15,
2006, in Fort Smith.
She was a former resident of Hartman, daughter of the late Sam and Mary
Dorney Colburn, widow of Hoyt Brown, retired beautician, and was
preceded in death by one son, Larry David Brown; one brother, Cecil
Colburn; and one sister, Jewell Ross.
Survivors include two daughters, Billie H. Mainard of Ozark and Mary
Kathryn Irvin and husband, Ben, of Fort Smith; six grandchildren,
Debbie Kremers, Jan Wilson, Donna Stewart, Michelle Nigh, Christina
Lawrence and Diana Bubar; nine great-grandchildren, Kathryn Wilson,
Kara Austin, Nicholas Kremers, Kasey Wilson, Stephanie Kremers, Dylan
Carpenter, Lacey Stewart, Haylee Nigh and Angel Bubar; one
great-great-grandson, Jackson Austin; two nephews; and one niece.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at
Nichols Chapel Cemetery at Altus with Rev. Todd Rowland officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Dickie Lynn Jones, 56, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006,
at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
He was a native of Russellville, son of the late Benton and Opal Overby
Jones, graduate of Pottsville High School and the University of the
Ozarks, member of First Presbyterian Church, avid sportsman, member and
past president of Arkansas Public Health Association, member and past
president of Southern Health Association, member of SOPHE and
ArkAHPERD, and was a 28-year employee of the Arkansas Department of
Health where he was currently serving as a regional department of
health supervisor for the Hometown Health Improvement Project for
northwest Arkansas.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Shrigley Jones; one son, Benjamin Jones
and wife, Loretta, of Mountainburg; two sisters, Betty Miller of
Wisconsin and Patsy Jones of Florida; two brothers, T. J. (Jerry) Jones
of Harrison and John Paul Jones of Morritlon; and two grandchildren,
Dustin and Cody Stark of Mountainburg.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the First
Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lance Jones officiating.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Patsy Sparks, 65, of Clarksville died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at
Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a native of Sikeston, Mo., and member of the Clarksville Church
of Christ.
She is survived by four sisters, Velma Gilmer and Verla Kaye Clifton,
both of Clarksville, and Elsie King and Laura Stone, both of Sikeston,
Mo.; and four brothers, Thomas Allen Williams of Onalaska, Texas, David
Williams and Roy Dean Williams, both of Ozark, and Roy Gean Williams of
Clarksville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Bob Oden officiating. Burial was in Stillwell Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Joey Morehead, Lenny Morehead, David Griggs,
Jeffrey Sparks, Jeffrey Kulp, and Chad Kendall.
Shirley Jean Tolar, 52, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at
Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late Paul Eugene and Dorothy Lane Allen Tate.
Survivors include four daughters, Pamela M. Smith and Casey L.
Bartlett, both of Lamar, Sara M. Freeman of Ozark and Sonya Tolar of
Arkansas; three sons, James P. Smith of Russellville, Jason A. Hawkins
of Louisiana and Michael J. Tolar of Clarksville; stepmother, Beatrice
Tate of Clarksville; one brother, Vincent Tate of Rogers; two sisters,
Brenda L. Tate of Arkansas and Nancy Ann Hurst of Clarksville; and 14
grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Mike Minniear officiating. Burial will be in Liberty
Hill Cemetery at Hunt.
Pallbearers will be Darren A. Smith, Matthew Pitts, Brandon Pitts,
Craig Walker, Andrew Ham, and Jeff Gibson.
Velta P. Mills, 85, of Clarksville died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at
Clarksville Convalescent Home.
A native of Hagarville, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Rhoda
Freeman Hughes, widow of Cecil Mills, and a 28-year employee of Tasty
Bird Foods prior to retiring in 1983.
Survivors include two daughters, Nona Warren and Charlsie Butler and
husband, Bruce, all of Clarksville; one sister, Wilma Owens of Temple,
Texas; two brothers, Willie Hughes of Clarksville and Douglas Hughes of
Advance, Mo.; four grandchildren and spouses, Debbie and John Beaupre,
Stacey and Mark Granger, Jimmy and Bobbie Butler, and Rhett and Stacy
Butler, all of Clarksville; five great-grandchildren, Courtney and
Morgan Wilson and Ashley, Sean and Billy Butler, all of Clarksville;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
