Amber Marie Periman, 17, of Lamar died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at
Saint Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith from injuries sustained
in a motorcycle accident on Highway 292 on Monday, Aug. 7.
She was a native of Clarksville, senior at Clarksville High School
where she was a member of the FFA, and was an organ donor to six
recipients through the Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency. Her
hobbies included art, horseback riding, and fishing. She was preceded
in death by paternal grandparents, Richard and Ervine Periman; and
maternal grandfather, Roger Umholtz.
Survivors include her parents, Doyle and Mary Periman of Lamar;
grandparents, Janet and Roger Patrick of Ozark; and fiance, Brian
Molczyk of Grand Island, Neb.
Funeral was at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the East Mount Zion Trinity
Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Jackson officiating.
Burial was in Minnow Creek Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke
Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Kenny Bridgewater, Martin Boen, Kevin Freeman,
Matt Jones, Joey Gibson, and Shannon Davidson.
Carolyn Bush Dobbins, 86, of Cedaredge, Colo., died Monday, Aug. 7,
2006, at Sunrise Homes Care Center near Delta, Colo.
She was a former resident of Clarksville, daughter of the late Lee and
Lou M. Bush, 1938 graduate of Clarksville High School where she served
as editor of the school paper, employee of the Johnson County Graphic
while attending the University of the Ozarks, former publisher of three
newspapers in New Mexico and Colorado, former resident of Grand
Junction Colo., where she did volunteer work with the American Red
Cross and St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center, and she, along with
her husband, Wallace Dobbins, received the University of the Ozarks
2006 Legacy award.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, David, and one
grandson, Dylan, of Grand Junction, Colo.; and two cousins, Henry
Walton of Clarksville and Fred W. Walton of Bethesda, Md.
Dorothy L. Shomber, 59, of Clarksville died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at
Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a native of Coal Hill, daughter of the late Jasper and Nora
Davis Thompson, graduate of Torrance High School in Torrance, Calif.,
retired secretary, and member of Faith Community Church.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen G. Shomber; one daughter, Cindy
Shomber of Phoenix, Ariz.; one son, Tim Connor of Santa Clarita,
Calif.; one brother, Jay Thompson of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and four
grandchildren, Bethany Shomber and Nathan Shomber of Phoenix, Ariz.,
and Jack Connor and Megan Connor, both of Santa Clarita, Calif.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Jill Perdue officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill Cemetery.
Eleanor Fikes, 78, of Benton, mother of Nancy A. Fikes of Clarksville,
died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at Saline Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Elk City, Okla., daughter of the late Earl and
Beatrice Bohannon Dawson, widow of Austin R. Fikes, member of the First
Baptist Church in Benton and the First Baptist Choir, charter member of
Riverdale Garden Club and Designers Garden Club of Little Rock, member
of the Benton Literary Guild, charter member of Talisman Club, and a
lifetime judge of National Federation of Garden Clubs.
Survivors include one son, Dr. John D. Fikes and wife, Chris Covey
Fikes, of San Diego, Calif.; one other daughter, Cindy A. Fikes of
Benton; two grandchildren, Anne Eleanor Fikes and Austin Covey Fikes;
and one sister, Dorothy Oswalt of North Little Rock.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, in the chapel
of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home with Dr. Rick Grant and Rev. David
Pierce officiating. A private inurnment will be held later at New
Rosemont Memorial Park.
Haskell D. Harkreader, 82, of Hartman died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at
the Veterans Administration Hospital.
A native of Hartman, he was a son of the late Roach and Iver Whitaker
Harkreader, and a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Ardella Harkreader; two daughters, Carolyn
Harkreader of Hartman and Judy Weathers of the Flat Rock Community; two
sons, David Harkreader and Larry Harkreader, both of Hartman; one
brother, J. R. Harkreader of Hartman; two grandchildren, Billy Weathers
of Hartman and Angel Blackburn of Fayetteville; and one
great-grandchild, Hunter.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Larry Horne officiating. Burial was in Hartman Cemetery.
Rev. Dr. Howard Linton, 85, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, in San Antonio,
Texas.
He was a native of Coal Hill, son of the late Riley and Johnnie Linton,
graduate of John Brown University in Siloam Springs and attended
Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. He pastored
churches in Maryville, Mo., and Dayton, Texas. He received chaplain
training at the Institute of Religion in Houston, Texas, and was
honored as "Outstanding Chaplain" by the College of Chaplains in 1990
with highest honors.
Rev. Linton worked as a chaplain at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.
He began the hospital chaplaincy at Baptist Memorial Hospital System in
1960 which was the second in Texas. He trained hospital chaplains of
all denominations throughout the United States and also trained
Catholic priests in Santiago, Chile. Rev. Linton served as an interim
pastor at many Baptist churches in San Antonio, Texas.
John T. Crews, 81, of Hope, whose daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Ken
Golden, reside in Clarksville, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at a
Texarkana hospital.
He was a native of Starksville, Miss., son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
John T. (Bess Owen) Crews Sr., and was preceded in death by one
brother, Jess Crews; and one sister, Virginia Poovey.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Mullins Crews; two sons, Russell
Crews and Paula of Star City and Alan Crews and Carrie of St. Louis,
Mo.; two other daughters, Kathy Holtz and Bo Quirk of Washington, La.,
and Marcia Shannon and Earl of Gainesville, Texas; three
sisters-in-law, Rita Crews of Winter Park, Fla., Vadine Mullins of
Memphis, Tenn., and Fay Wright of Mountain Home; nine grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
Velva Dean Dixon Denton, 80, of Clarksville died Saturday, Aug. 12,
2006, in Little Rock.
She was a Baptist and was preceded in death by her parents, Arch A. and
Ocie Needham Dixon; husband, Morris Denton; one daughter, Loualla
Hamilton; and one sister, Betty Bowers.
She is survived by one daughter, Marcella Walls of Little Rock; two
sons, Kenneth Denton of Clarksville and Roy Denton of Dublin; one
sister, Coleen Snow of Little Rock; two brothers, Harold Dixon of
Clarksville and Bud Dixon of Hartman; three grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
