Calvin Warren Poyner, 85, of Hartman died Monday, July 10, 2006, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a son of the late George W. and Judy Thompson Poyner, farmer and
construction employee, Army veteran and of the Assembly of God faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Earlene Riley Poyner; two
brothers, Wilburn Poyner and Sylvester (Red) Poyner; and three sisters,
Dorothy Rowland, Ava Anglin, and Hazel Marvel.
Survivors are six daughters, Beverly Riddle and Kathy Sams, both of
Hartman, Margaret Hill and Linda Freeman, both of Clarksville, Debbie
Magby of Greenbrier, and Tammy Sampley of Tulsa, Okla.; three sons,
Frank Poyner and James Poyner, both of Hartman, and Michael Poyner of
Russellville; one brother, Carl Poyner of Hartman; two sisters, Laura
Anglin of Clarksville and Reba Harris of Hartman; 11 grandchildren; and
ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Larry Domerese Jr. officiating. Burial was in Kendall
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Frank Poyner, James Poyner, Jonathan Freeman,
Willard Sams, Johnny Anglin, and Vernon Harris Jr.
Hughie Lee Miracle Lewis, 79, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at Brighton
Gardens Skilled Nursing Facility in Bellaire, Texas.
She was born April 20, 1927, to Hugh A. and Gladys Adkins Miracle in
the Woodland Community near Clarksville, a 1943 graduate of Clarksville
High School, widow of R. L. Lewis, former resident of Little Rock,
where she was a legal and executive secretary, Wichita, Kan., where she
was employed by Boeing, and New Orleans, La., where she was employed as
an executive assistant to the director of the Boeing Michoud Space
Facility and was named "New Orleans Secretary of the Year." In 1979 she
moved to Houston, Texas, where she was executive assistant to the
president of Soltex Polymer Company and later became human resources
manager for the American Productivity and Quality Center. Upon retiring
from APQC, she worked for a few years for her son at The Election
Center in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by one son,
Geoffrey Vaughn Lewis and one sister, Maxine Miracle Wasson Snider.
Survivors include one son, Doug Lewis and wife, Vicki, of Houston,
Texas; one grandson, Jason Lewis; one sister, Carolyn Miracle Ross and
husband, William, of Houston, Texas; aunt, Elizabeth Leiter of San
Angelo, Texas, formerly of Clarksville; nephew, David Wasson and wife,
Janice, of Fayetteville; and numerous great-nephews, great-nieces, and
cousins.
Hilda Mills Rowbotham, 94, of Clarksville died Thursday, July 13, 2006,
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late Charles Hilburn
and Alice Carter Mills, widow of Everette Rowbotham, first graduate and
salutatorian of Scranton High School in 1931, charter member of the
Tokalon Presbyterian Church in Logan County where she was a member of
the church orchestra, and currently a member of the Clarksville Church
of Christ. She was preceded in death by one sister, Elaine Creekmore,
and one brother, Richard C. Mills.
Survivors include one daughter, Dana Rowbotham of Clarksville; one son,
Carroll Rowbotham and wife, Sherry, of Lamar; two grandchildren, Denise
Lovelace of Kingwood, Texas, and Lisa Adamson of Charlotte, N. C.; and
five great-grandchildren.
Lillian Buck, 84, of Altus died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Clarksville.
She was a daughter of the late Gaston and Myrtle Parker Linton, widow
of Smiley Fred Buck, member of the First Baptist Church of Altus,
Sunday school teacher for 50 years, member of extension homemakers
club, and seamstress.
She is survived by one son, Mark Covert and wife, Lori, of Ozark; two
stepsons, Michael Buck of Ozark and Kenneth Buck of Kansas City, Kan.;
two grandchildren, Zachary and Jacob Covert of Ozark; and numerous
cousins including Jo Ann Carter, Sandra and Paul Kremers and Kenny and
Sherry Carter, all of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, July 17, at the First Baptist Church in
Altus with Rev. Chuck Starnes, Rev. Ron Clark, and Rev. Bobby Jack
Covert officiating.
Burial was in Coal Hill Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox
Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Wallace West, Dewayne Freeman, John Stewart,
Aubrey Bowen, A. L. Pippen, and Sascha Hoffman.
Louvena Jane Howard, 104, of Russellville died Sunday, July 16, 2006,
at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehab in Russellville.
She was a native of Fort Douglas, daughter of the late William and Babe
Cordellia Ross Phillips, widow of Joseph M. Howard, member of the Mill
Creek Church of Christ, and was preceded in death by one daughter,
Alice Howard; three sisters, Clara Carter, Annie B. Waterman, and Ella
Mae Tilton; five brothers, Claud, Gus, George, Robert and Heartsel
Phillips; two stepsisters, Leva Stone and Ollie Ross; and one
stepbrother, Homer Terry.
Survivors include two brothers, Frank Phillips of Lampasas, Texas, and
Marion Phillips and wife, Violet, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Rev. William Horton Lankford, 81, of Oark died Saturday, July 15, 2006,
at his home.
He was an ordained minister with the United Baptist Church, World War
II veteran and served at the Battle of the Bulge as a medic, Craftsman
tools supervisor, and retired from Easco Hand Tools in 1987. He was
preceded in death by his parents, William M. and Carrie Woods Lankford;
one son, Dennis Horton Lankford; two brothers, David and Jess Lankford;
and four sisters-in-law, Lois Younce, Ella Jones, Ruby Sutton, and
Raide Starkey.
Survivors include his wife, Rosie Carrie Cain Lankford; one daughter,
Mary Maxwell and husband, Larry, of Fort Collins, Colo.; three sons,
Rev. Ben Lankford and wife, Sharlene, of West Plains, Mo., Dan Lankford
and wife, Tonnie, of Clarksville, and Scott G. Lankford and wife,
JoAnne, of Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Betty Cain of
Etawah, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; nine grandchildren; and niece, Mildred
Sutton of Chattanooga, Tenn.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Roller-Cox Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Alvin Reynolds and Rev. Denver Cochran
officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Jasper.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Lankford, Jim Stellick, Shawn Watkins, Argia
Harderson, Veston Edgmon, and Jeff Holt.
