Freeda R. Townsend Hodges, 71, died May 26, 2006, at Fayette County
Hospital in Vandalia, Ill.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Frank R. and
Sarah J. Jones Townsend, widow of Arthur B. Hodges, Baptist, and
retired U. S. Postal employee in St. Louis, Mo.
Survivors include four children, Arthur R. Hodges of Auxvasse, Mo.,
James E. Hodges of Fresno, Calif., Beverly A. Gerlach of Vandalia,
Ill., and Linda S. Yates of Eureka, Mo.; one brother, Leon Townsend;
one sister, Nina Scott-Bahr; nine grandchildren, Nicole Y. Hodges,
Andreya D. Hodges, Bradley E. Hodges, Amanda M. Hodges, Crystal L.
Hodges, Kate A. Gerlach, Anna J. Gerlach, Keith E. Yates, and Tricia R.
Yates; and one great-grandchild, Katherine Y. Cretel.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the First Baptist Church
of Wentzville, Mo., with Rev. Dan Rush officiating.
Burial was at Mount Zion Cemetery in O'Fallon, Mo., under the direction
of Baue Funeral Home.
Lydia J. Hensling, 80, of Sun City, Calif., died Thursday, June 1,
2006, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
She was a native of Lamar, widow of William Hensling, former resident
of Santa Fe Springs, Calif., founding member of Good Shepard Lutheran
Church in Menifee, Calif., and former member of Peace Lutheran Church
in Pico Rivera, Calif.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Hensling of Whittier, Calif.; two
daughters, Carol Henckels of Mohave, Calif., and Joyce Hunt of
Lakewood, Calif.; one brother, Arnold Kreipke of Clarksville; three
sisters, Dorothy Smith of Los Angeles, Calif., Irene Tanner of Wichita,
Kan., and Clara Blackwell of Clarksville; three grandsons, Andy
Henckels, Steven Henckels and Robert Rider; and one great-grandson,
Christopher Henckels.
Funeral was at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Good Shephard Lutheran
Church in Menifee, Calif., with graveside services burial following at
Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.
Leroy Palmer, 79, of Clarksville died Friday, June 2, 2006, at Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Earl and Elsie
Breedlove Palmer, member of the East Mount Zion Baptist Church,
Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 9, and the Army National Guard where he
spent 19 years prior to retiring. He was preceded in death by one
sister, Mae Dennis.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Palmer; one son, Randy Palmer of
Clarksville; one grandchild, Timothy Brooks of Clarksville; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with
Rev. Robbie Jackson officiating. Burial was in Carter Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Roy Shook, Shelby Shook, Burley Shook, Charlie
Jones, Dan Hartman, and Jim Walters.
Ruby Irene Higgs Young, 88, of Clarksville, formerly of Knoxville, died
Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Jennie Lamb Turner, widow
of James W. Higgs and Ellis Young, member of First Baptist Church of
Knoxville, retired Johnson Regional Medical Center food service
employee after 18ba1Ú2ea years, and was preceded in death by
one
brother, Marvin Andrew Turner, and one sister, Mary Caswell.
She is survived by one brother, Nolen Green Turner of California; four
sisters, Etta M. Brown and Floy E. Clubb, both of Knoxville, Inez Selby
and husband, Jim, of Fayetteville, and Charlene Meecham of Ely, Nev.;
one sister-in-law, Cecelia Turner of California; 13 stepchildren; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at the First Baptist
Church in Knoxville with Rev. Richard Snyder officiating.
Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox
Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Darrell E. Clubb, Kenneth E. Selby, Allen W.
Brown, Gordon E. Higgs, Hartsel Hankins and Jerry Hankins.
Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
