Alden Joe Cowan, 81, of Salus died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at his home.
He was a farmer, member of the Masonic Lodge in Swain for 30-plus
years, son of the late Joe and Betty Cowan; and was preceded in death
by five sisters, Erna, Minnie, Mattie, Bell and Alpha; and four
brothers, Walter, Brock, Abe and Jack Cowan.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Rose Cowan; one son and
daughter-in-law, Perry and Beverly Cowan of Broken Arrow, Okla.; four
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Salus Church with Rev.
Clayton Rylee officiating.
Burial was in Case Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral
Home.
Carl Lee Pitts, 30, of Ozark died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at Cleveland.
He was a native of Clarksville, employee of Nabors Drilling Company and
attended Mountain Home Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his children, Gregory Aaron Pitts, Karley Diane
Pitts, and Kadence N. Pitts, all of Ozark; father and stepmother, Jerry
and Lynn Pitts of Lamar; mother and stepfather, Judy and Gary Owens of
Atkins; four sisters, Christina M. Pitts of Pelsor, Diana Mae Pitts of
Atkins, and Christy Haynes and Brandy Haynes, both of Scranton; one
brother, Jeremy Burns of Scranton; and the mother of his children,
Kristy Campbell of Ozark.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Lemley Chapel with Rev.
Hank Duvall officiating. Burial was at Bells Chapel.
John Weber Hern, 78, of Knoxville died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Atkins, son of the late Rufus and Stacy Adams Hern,
United States Army veteran, welder and a Baptist.
Survivors are his wife, Earline Hern; one daughter and son-in-law, Lois
and Richard Galvan of Hartman; four sons and three daughters-in-law,
Ernest Hern of Knoxville, Danny and Edna Hern of Clarksville, Donnie
and Donna Hern of Hartman, and Kenneth and Brenda Hern of Ozone; two
adopted daughters, April Hern of Hartman and Denise Goodin of
Clarksville; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Ada Hern, Paulette
Hern, Parlee Wilson, and Jane and Shawn Rodriquez, all of Hartman; two
brothers, Gene Hern and Floyd Hern, both of Hartman; 20 grandchildren;
and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Hartman Baptist Church with
Rev. Grady Glass officiating.
Burial was in Hartman Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral
Home.
Loretta Hammonds Cantrell, 93, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at her home.
She was a native of Clarksville but had resided in California since the
mid-1930s and was a beautician for 55 years prior to retiring at the
age of 88 years.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Ronald Walker; one son,
Thomas Reed Cantrell Jr. and wife, Susan R.; and one grandchild, Thomas
Reed Cantrell III.
Lennie Bridges Randall, 91, of Vici, Okla., died Wednesday, Aug. 10,
2005, in Oklahoma City, Okla..
She was born Aug. 11, 1913, near Clarksville, was the daughter of the
late John Franklin and Savannah Smith Bridges and was preceded in death
by three brothers, Noah, Oren, and Erna; one sister, Edythe; and one
infant son, Johnny David.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vici, Okla., where she
served as the director on the building committee for the current church
location, director of Vacation Bible School, church treasurer, and led
the Women's Missionary Union. She was also part of the Eastern Star
organization achieving worthy matron on more than one organization
through the Southern Baptist Convention.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years Floyd Randall; five children,
Floyd Dean Randall and wife, Belle; Coral Jean Randall, Lora June Wingo
and husband, Keith; Elwin Earl Randall and wife, Arleta; and Edythe
Carol Randall; six grandchildren, Jeaneen Pointer, Carol Prewitt, David
Randall, Bryan Randall, Alan Randall, and Shelia Molsbee; two
stepgrandchildren, Larry Randall and Lenay Peloquin; eight
great-grandchildren, Kristopher Pointer, Jonathan Prewitt, Kalyn
Marker, Dillan and Blake Randall, and Savannah, Desirae and Logan
Randall; three sisters, Nettie Jacobs, Lucy Jacobs and Magdalene Dobbs,
all of Clarksville; one sister-in-law, Eula Bridges of Clarksville; and
one brother, Olen Bridges and wife, Doris, of Camargo, Okla.
Roy Haskell Stubblefield Sr., 76, of Alvin, Texas, formerly of
Clarksville, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at his home.
He was a native of Jasper, son of the late Henry and Bertha
Stubblefield, Catholic, served in the United States Army stationed at
Fort Ord, Calif., and was a lawyer in the real estate business.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Stubblefield; one daughter, Linda
A. Stubblefield of Tolleson, Ariz.; one son, Roy Haskell Stubblefield
Jr. and wife, Beatrice, of Jacinto City, Texas; and two grandchildren,
Victoria A. Stubblefield and Amanda Bea Stubblefield.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with
Rev. William Wewers, O.S.B., officiating. Burial was in Lamar Cemetery.
William H. Crouch III, 76, of Clarksville died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005,
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Muskogee, Okla., son of the late Margaret and
William H. Crouch II, graduate of Muskogee (Oklahoma) High School and
North East College at Tahlequah, Okla., retired elementary teacher at
Muskogee School, and a Marine Corps World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Wilai Crouch.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Hardwicke Funeral
Chapel with Rev. Terry Schlinker officiating. Burial will be in Carter
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Songphol Nitithanyavatana, Wanchai Damrongsanti,
Gary Perry, Aaron Perry, Victor Perry, and Gary Perry Jr.
Woodrow Taylor, 87, of Lamar died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, at Countryside
Manor Nursing Home.
He was a son of the late Henry Lee and Onie Mae Butler Taylor, farmer,
and was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Lee Taylor.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Cain of Lake Village, Linda
Henson of Fort Worth, Texas, and Nelda Gilmer of Clarksville; two sons,
James Pope of Montrose and Carl Pope of Peru, Ind.; three sisters,
Kally Watson of Santa Rosa, Calif., Ally Brannon of Heber Springs, and
Erma Maxwell of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, Tommy Taylor and Jack
Taylor, both of Springhill, La., and Travis Taylor of Baltimore, Md.;
26 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
