Annette E. Ford, 64, of Prairie View, formerly of the Clarksville area,
died Wednesday, June 22, 2005.
She was a factory employee, daughter of the late Carl Riley and Annie
Lucille Newman Gray, and widow of George Ford.
She is survived by four daughters, Glenda Moody and fiance, Greg
Marshall, Roxana Rea and husband, James, and Sabrina Dale, all of
Scranton, and Vonda Christensen and husband, Kennard, of Ione; two
sons, Jimmy Kendrick and wife, Meredith, of Scranton and Danny Kendrick
and wife, Amanda, of Ozone; one sister, Dorotha Hayward of Scranton;
two brothers, William Riley Gray and Joe Gray, both of Scranton; 13
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of
Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Beulah Christian Revis, 94, of Clarksville died Thursday, June 23,
2005, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Ozone, daughter of the late Claud and Jessie Smith
Christian, widow of Eldon Revis, 1930 graduate of Clarksville High
School, employed by Clarksville Light and Water Company for several
years, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Meyer,
Pauline Harris and Hallene Kleiboeker; and one niece, Jessie Harris.
She is survived by five nephews, John Meyer, Charles Meyer, and Duane
Meyer, all of Texas, and Morgan Harris and Zearl Harris, both of
Oklahoma; and four nieces, Nancy Smith of Texas, Cathy Foreman of West
Virginia, and Ann Crowell and Jenness Richardson, both of Colorado.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Larry Horne officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Douglas Wayne Callahan, 61, of Ozone died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at
St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a native of Lamar, son of the late James H. Callahan, and a
heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Smith Callahan; two daughters, Anna
Marie Callahan and Cathy Ann Callahan, both of Arizona; one son,
Douglas Callahan Jr. of Arizona; three stepsons, Gilbert Callahan of
Arizona, Randy Callahan Jr. of Knoxville, and Curtis Callahan of Lamar;
mother, Irene Callahan of Lamar; two sisters, Jan Marlow of Clarksville
and Elizabeth Smith of Lamar; four brothers, J. D. Callahan of Oark,
Bill Callahan of Arizona, Bob Callahan of Ratcliff, and Jeff Callahan
of Ozone; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the Mount Vernon Community Church with Rev. Bill Holt officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Earl Coats Jr., 78, of Fort Smith died Saturday, June 25, 2005.
He was a member and elder of the Alma First Presbyterian Church, former
basketball player at the University of the Ozarks and former
player-coach of the team when the coach was drafted, former teacher at
Coal Hill, Mulberry, Rudy and Darby Junior High in Fort Smith, former
business manager at Lyon College in Batesville, former principal at
Fordyce High School, and former principal at Greenwood and Huntsville
where he retired after completing 38 years as an educator. He was a U.
S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Alma City
councilman in the 1960s, Boy Scout leader, member of the Alma Masonic
Lodge No. 735, coached one of the first Little League basebeall teams
in Alma, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Coats; one
sister, Earlene Williams; and one brother, William Coats.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane Williamson of Elkins and Suanne
Morgan of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, John Coats of Fort Smith and Earl
Coats III of Huntsville; one sister, Linda Richardson of Clarksville;
14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Ferguson Memorial
Presbyterian Church in Coal Hill. Interment with military honors was at
Srygley Cemetery in Coal Hill. Arrangements were under the direction of
Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Ellis Young, 88, of Knoxville died Friday, June 24, 2005, at his home.
A native of Knoxville, he was a son of the late James Andrew and Martha
Hughes Young, member of Knoxville First Baptist Church, Army veteran of
World War II, and preceded in death by the mother of the children, Dot
Young.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Young; 12 daughters, Charlotte
Sheppard, Dorothy Higby, Bobbie Branch, Patsy Smith, Mary Browning,
Donna Wylie, Billie Garcia, Roberta Mackie, Debbie Klausner, Joni
Figueroa, Connie Young, and Kimberely Rinehart; one son, Jim Young; one
sister, Juanita Hamzy; one brother, Glen Young; 39 grandchildren; and
several great-grandchildren.
Joyce Mae Morgan, 83, of Lamar died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Charles Thomas and Artie Bell Crisp
Morgan and was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Gatley; and two
brothers, Bo and Bill Morgan.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Mollie Mae Smith Collins Liggett, 83, of Springdale, mother of Eunice
Garland of Clarksville, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, in Springdale.
She was born in Ryker, the daughter of William and Denia Bryant Smith,
and was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her five
children, Spencer Collins; and her second husband, Thomas Liggett.
She is survived by one son, Tony Collins of Jasper; three other
daughters, Artie Swafford and husband, Sherman, of Springdale, Maxine
Minnis and husband, Jim, and Gloria Ouderkirk and husband, Don, all of
Belle Plaine, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 1, at the chapel of
Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale with Dotson Collins
officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery in Springdale.
Active pallbearers will be Shawn Minnis, Spencer O'Daniel, James
Stuckey, Jim O'Daniel, Tony Foulk, and Kevin Sparks.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Johnston and Dean Reeves II.
Mack Arthur Skaggs, 60, of Springdale, formerly of Johnson County, died
Wednesday, June 22, 2005, in Springdale.
A native of Oark, he was a son of the late Arlie and Bessie Reed
Skaggs, 32-year employee of Tyson Foods, and was preceded in death by
one sister and one brother.
Survivors include his wife, Denece Skaggs; two daughters, Marsha Parker
of Elkins and Rebecca Skaggs of Rogers; one son, James McArthur Skaggs
of Alexander; five sisters, Robbie Skaggs of Bradenton, Fla., Lura
Madewell of Fayetteville, Carolyn Turner of Springdale, Leta Mae White
of Nob Hill, Louvella Shirey of Rogers; four brothers, Loyd, Doyle,
David and Ben Skaggs, all of Springdale; and three grandchildren,
Christopher and Zack Parker and Chelsea Bowen.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Sisco Funeral Chapel in
Springdale with Rev. Dorsey Martin and Rev. Elvon Wolf officiating.
Interment was at 2:30 p.m. at Oark Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jimmy Skaggs, David Skaggs Jr., John Curtis
Skaggs, Josh Skaggs, Jess Chaddick, and David Smith.
Nerine Brandt, 83, of Jenks, Okla., died Friday, June 24, 2005, at
Grace Living Center in Jenks, Okla.
A native of the Mt. Levi Community, she was a daughter of the late
Martin Hanson and May Graves Lund, widow of Floyd Brandt, former
resident of Advance and Sikeston, Mo., owner-operator of Brandt's
Market and member of the General Baptist Church. She was preceded in
death by three brothers, Luther Lund, Martin Lund and Tom Lund; and one
sister, Jean Stepp.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Floyd Rayburn and Sally
Brandt of Hobbs, N. M.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and
Martin Thurstin of St. Charles, Mo., Judy and John Skaggs of St. Louis,
Mo., and Bonita Martin of Jenks, Okla.; two sisters, Wilma Smithpeters
of Westland, Mich., and Ann Francis of Advance, Mo.; numerous
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Sidney Belle Cazort Nash, 82, of Edmonds, Wash., died March 25, 2005,
at her home.
A native of Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Sidney and Myrtle
Webb Cazort, member of the WAVE in the U. S. Navy during World War II,
graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, former school teacher
in Arkansas and at St. Nicholas in Seattle, Wash., a longtime member of
the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was preceded in death by
one son, Paul.
