Herschel Hill, 85, of Coal Hill died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired coal miner, member of the Church of Christ, and son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Herschel (Elizabeth Quaile) Hill Sr.
Survivors include his widow, Lucille Hackney Hill; three daughters, Sue
Horton of Maumelle, Rebecca Locklear of Houston, Texas, and Annette
Grisham of Cabot; two sisters, Cohene Hill of Portland, Ore., and
Gretchen Hill of Fort Smith; eight grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Roller-Cox Chapel with John
Ballard officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill Cemetery.
Kirk Clingenpeel, 23, of Altus died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, from
injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 352
approximately one mile west of Clarksville.
He was a native of Fort Smith, employed as a carpenter's assistant for
Home Construction Company, and was preceded in death by one brother,
John Russell Clingenpeel; and grandfather, John Workman.
Survivors include one daughter, Toni Alisha Ann of Clarksville; father
and stepmother, Douglas and Florence Clingenpeel of Newport, Tenn.;
mother and stepfather, Judy and Dennis Permann of Altus; maternal
grandmother, Goldie Workman of Clarksville; paternal grandparents,
Russell and Phyllis Clingenpeel of South Sioux, Neb., and Vernita
Permann of Parkston, S. D.; and one sister, Selena Clingenpeel of Altus.
Kenneth W. Huff, 60, of Locust Grove, Okla., brother of Pat Edwards of
Coal Hill, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, in Locust Grove, Okla.
He was a native of Alma, served in the Army and National Guard and
employed as a long-haul truck driver for Transwood Trucking of Pryor,
Okla. He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Huff; three
brothers, John Paul, Reseal and Glenn David Huff; and one sister,
Evelyn Marie.
Survivors include his widow, Joyce Huff; one son, Shannon Huff of Van
Buren; one stepdaughter, Quanna Rena Scrapper of Pryor, Okla.; one
stepson, Tommy Cruise of Pryor, Okla.; two other sisters, Sharon
Schaarbo of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Tammy Moon of Fort Smith; eight
brothers, Ronnie Huff of Bismarck, N. D., Virgil Huff of Mulberry,
Billy Huff of Natural Dam, Gary Adams and Tim Adams, both of Alma,
Larry Adams of Ozark, Steve Adams of Gillette, Wyo., and Harold Adams
of Dallas; and nine grandchildren, Timothy, Amber, Michael, Shelby
Lynn, Makayla, Makenzie, Kenneth Cody, Jason Blaine and Kendra Nicole.
Nora Terrill Tharp, 89, of Clarksville died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003,
in Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a native of Johnson County, daughter of the late Frank Leslie
and Lula Jane Alkire Terrill, 1934 graduate of Hartman High School,
member of the Church of Christ and the Mayflower Society, resident of
California for several years prior to returning to Clarksville in 1971,
and a retired employee of the Sears Roebuck Company in Glendale, Calif.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Nate, Alfred, Elga and
Wallace Terrill; and one sister, Cora Terrill.
Survivors include seven nieces, June Farmer, Peggy Carta, Ruth Ann
Duran, and Nora Muriel Terrill, all of Clarksville, Bertha Skidgel of
Coal Hill, Jeanette Murray of Nebraska, and Eva Jean Cravens of
Missouri; seven nephews, Jim Terrill of Lamar, Darrell Terrill and Ray
Terrill, both of Hartman, Bob Terrill of California, and Max Terrill,
David Terrill, and Tommy Terrill, all of Missouri; and one
sister-in-law, Margaret Terrill of Hartman.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with John Ballard officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Pearl Dickerson Whitson, 90, of Clarksville died Saturday, Sept. 27,
2003, at her home.
She was a native of Coal Hill, daughter of the late J. W. and Lilly Mae
Boen Dickerson, widow of Harold Whitson, co-owner of Whitson-Morgan
Motor Company, an alumna of the University of the Ozarks, member of the
First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville, the Presbyterian Women's
Association, PEO, Beta Sigma Phi, and University of the Ozarks Alumni
Association, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Sue Hardin.
She is survived by one son, Turner Whitson of Clarksville; one
grandson, Steve Edmisten of Clarksville; two granddaughters, Julie
Turner of Plano, Texas, and Heather Whitson of Raleigh-Durham, N. C.;
one great-granddaughter, Lauren Wilson of Clarksville; stepmother, Ila
Dickerson of Clarksville; one sister, Bonnie Dickerson of Fort Smith;
one brother, Jim Dickerson of Clarksville; and one half-sister, Monetta
Hadley of Ponca City, Okla.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the First Presbyterian
Church in Clarksville with Rev. Lance Jones officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral
Home.
Pallbearers were Michael Dickerson, Chris Dickerson, Greg Dickerson,
Jimmy Dickerson, Larry Plugge, Charlie Plugge, Billy Dickerson, and
Jeff Blackard.
Ryan Walton
Ryan Walton, 20, of Fort Smith, son of Mark Walton of Clarksville,
died
Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle-car
hit-and-run accident in Fort Smith.
He was a graduate of Southside High School and was planning to attend
the University of Arkansas Fort Smith next semester. He was a member of
the Presbyterian Youth Fellowship at the First Presbyterian Church, a
former member of the Royal Rangers at Wesley United Methodist, and was
preceded in death by his grandfather, R. P. Walton of Clarksville.
Other survivors include his mother and stepfather, Gayle and Alan
Judkins of Vian, Okla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Ginger
Judkins of Fort Smith; grandmother, Edith Walton of Clarksville; and
great-grandmother, Jimmie Mefford of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Edwards Funeral Home
Chapel in Fort Smith with burial following at 12:30 p.m. at Oakland
Cemetery in Clarksville.
Active pallbearers were Matt Judkins, Ryan Jay, Aaron Willis, Kelly
Loop, Jason Lansdell and Justin Michael.
Honorary pallbearers were Jadd Kimbrough, Jason Weaver, Justin Plugge,
Chase Cecil, and Bobby Don Meek.
