Aubrey Dean (Dick) Mays, 81, of Sikeston, Mo., died Saturday, April 12,
2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Missouri Highway
51 near Puxico, Mo., according to information received from the Missouri State
Highway Patrol. His wife, Emogean Bell Mays, 76, who was a passenger in the
vehicle, sustained moderate injuries in the accident and was taken to Three
Rivers North Campus Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
A native of Hagarville, he was a son of the late Joe and Robbie Hutchins
Mays, member of Masonic Lodge 310 AF&AM, 33rd degree Mason, owner and
operator of Mays Garage, member of Miner Baptist Church for 53 years, U. S.
Army veteran of World War II, and recipient of the Purple Heart, two Bronze
Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Other than his widow, he is survived by three sons, K. Nathan Mays and
James Curtis McDaniel, both of Sikeston, Mo., and Ronald Floyd McDaniel of
Belvidere, Ill.; four daughters, Carlois Holmes of Bloomfield, Mo., Marcia
Beeson of Dexter, Mo., and Mary Ann Crowe and Carolyn White, both of Russellville;
three brothers, Bill Mays of Mount Auburn, Miss., Don Mays of Cherokee Pass,
Mo., and Basil Mays of Englewood, Fla.; two sisters, Loula Warren of Poplar
Bluff, Mo., and Christine Godwin of Morley, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren;
and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Ronald Shrum officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roger Moore, Archie Smith, Martin Allen, Chester Kordahl, Cecil Owens, and Raymond Woollums.
Albert Ray Rinke, 71, of Altus died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Mercy
Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
He was a retired machinist with Trans World Airlines after 30 years of
service, member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altus, member of International
Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1650 in Riverside, Mo.,
and member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 3455 in Altus.
Survivors include his widow, Nina Collene Ross Rinke; two daughters, Annetta
Raye Baker and Rhonda Kaye Holder, both of Altus; one son, Timothy Alan Rinke
of Rogers; four sisters, Doris Oberste of Belton, Mo., Pat Briggs of Excelsior
Springs, Mo., Mary Carter of Kansas City, Mo., and Josephine Zey of Odessa,
Mo.; three brothers, Gerald Rinke of Kansas City, Mo., Richard Rinke of Rogers,
and Vincent Rinke of Independence, Mo.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary was at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Shaffer Funeral Home in
Ozark.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer
Funeral Home.
Albert Schluterman, 72, of Subiaco died Wednesday, April 30, 2003.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, farmer, member of St. Benedict Catholic
Church at Subiaco and St. Benedict Men's Society, and son of the late Ben
and Mary Forst Schluterman.
Survivors include his widow, Adelie Blaschke Schluterman; six daughters
and five sons-in-law, Cindy and Randy Vire of Clarksville, Kathy and Ronnie
King, Mary and Phillip Robberson, and Karen and Keith Willems, all of Paris,
and Jeanne Huck and Patty and Brian Bazyk, all of Subiaco; six sons and five
daughters-in-law, Martin and Barbara Schluterman, Will Schluterman, Chris
and Cindy Schluterman, and Ronnie and Carol Blaschke, all of Subiaco, Bobby
and Debbie Schluterman of Greenwood, and Tom and Pam Schluterman of Midway;
two sisters, Margaret Binz and Mary Ann Komp, both of Paris; two brothers,
Bernard Schluterman of Paris and Eugene Schluterman of Subiaco; 28 grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.

Church with burial in St. Benedict Cemetery under the direction of Roller

Buddy Rogers, 72, of Clarksville died Monday, May 5, 2003, at St. Edward
Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Frank Freeman and Helen
Guthrie Rogers, graduate of Hartman High School, member of the Goose Camp
Assembly of God Church, and retired wildlife officer with the Arkansas Game
and Fish Commission.
He is survived by one daughter, Connie Rogers Lee of Clarksville; three
sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim and Nancy Rogers, Jack and Dolores Rogers,
and Robert Rogers, all of Clarksville; one sister, Lanelle Russell of Hartman;
two brothers, George Rogers of Clarksville and Charles Rogers of Tulsa, Okla.;
and four grandchildren, Derek Rogers, Caitlin Rogers, Austin Lee and Kristin
Lee, all of Clarksville.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Billy Usery officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Christene Buchanan Hatchett, 78, of Clarksville died Friday, May 2, 2003,
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Francis Marion
and Mary Elizabeth Sisco Buchanan, member of the Assembly of God Church, and
was preceded in death by three grandchildren; two brothers, Clinton and Jasper
Buchanan; and three sisters, Alta Bowen, Clara Sanders, and Johnnie Ogden.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Burl Hatchett; two daughters
and sons-in-law, Mary Sparks and Will Pizzotti and Joan and Jim Rigsby, all
of Clarksville; three sons, Gary Don Hatchett, Ronnie Dean Hatchett, and Burl
David Hatchett, all of Clarksville; three sisters, Hester Bowen of Mountain
Top, Ruth Harris of Clarksville, and Amanda Hatfield of Fresno, Calif.; ten
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Damir Karic, 1, of Lamar died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at his home.
He was born April 6, 2002, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Survivors include his parents, Donavan and Rachel Farmer of Lamar; two
sisters, Alanis and Trinity Farmer, both of Lamar; paternal grandparents,
Audrey and Butch Farmer of Oark; maternal grandparents, Lori and William Johnson
of Russellville; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Esther Jane Jones, 83, of Cass died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at her home.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Turner of Lamar.
She is survived by eight children, James Jones, Johnny Jones and Bessie
Haffelder, all of Cass, Vergie Granillo of Ozark, Wanda Haffelder of Delaney,
Rosa Kildow of Fayetteville, Freda Kildow of West Fork, and Susie Osburn
of Springfield, Mo.; son-in-law, Kenneth Turner of Flat Rock; several grandchildren
including Kathy Dyer of Lamar, Lynne Sims of Clarksville, Bill Turner and
Rita Kraus, both of Knoxville, Betsy Haffelder, Terri Osburn, Jennifer Graham,
Amanda Granillo, April Granillo, and James Lee Jones, all of Ozark and Frankie
Jones of Coal Hill; and several great-grandchildren including Jamie Taylor,
Becky Heyland, Erica Dyer, Alfred Milam, Shauna Hylton, Matthew Needham,
Ashley Needham, K. T. Turner, Ryan Turner, William Turner Jr., Cody Kraus,
Mariah Jones and Allison Graham.
Francis W. (Bud) Cowan, 79, of Fort Smith died Thursday, May 1, 2003,
in Fort Smith.
He was born in Clarksville to the late William Issac (Ike) and
Georgia Casteel Cowan, graduated from Oark High School and attended the
University of the Ozarks where he majored in chemistry. During his two years
of military service he was a combat rifle infantryman in the Bloody Bucket
Division during the Battle of the Bulge.
In 1946, he graduated from the Kansas City School of Watchmaking where
he later taught for a short time. He was retired owner-operator of Cowan
Jewelry Store in Fort Smith which served as the central office for the seven
stores he owned and operated in Beaumont, Texas, Port Arthur, Texas, and
Lake Charles, La. He was also engaged in real estate and a car lot business.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and was active in the Optimist Club where he
served as president and secretary-treasurer. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Alma Bernice Cowan; one daughter, Nancy Sue (Suzy) Miller; and one
son, William Curtis (Bill) Cowan.
Survivors include two daughters, L. Lee Cowan of Fox and Cindie Cowan
Kelcey of Fort Smith; two sisters, Bertha (Butch) Waldo of Ozone and Grace
Mayo of Sallisaw, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in
Fort Smith with Rev. David Bell, pastor of Kinsley (Kansas) Methodist Church
officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery.

Harry M. Torzeski, 88, of Clarksville died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Wilton, N. D., son of the late Nickolas and Irene Kansky
Torzeski, and was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Torzeski.
Survivors are one daughter, Cheryl Torzeski of Arlington, Texas; three
sons, Gary Torzeski and Dennis Torzeski, both of Cali-
fornia, and David Torzeski of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
Johnnie Mildred Jenkins, 73, of Russellville died Friday, May 2, 2003,
at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a daughter of the late George Frank and Ira Wilkins Campbell,
widow of Milburn A. Jenkins, and retired Con-Agra employee.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Arthur and Dollie
Jenkins of Russellville and James David Jenkins of Midwest City, Okla.; one
sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jean and Bill Patterson of Clarksville; two
brothers and sisters-in-law, J. C. and Anita Campbell of Clarksville and
Maxi Don and Janice Campbell of California; eight grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Jessie Omagene Warren, 74, of Belfair, Wash., died Tuesday, April 29,
2003, at Harrison Hospital.
She was a native of Garber, daughter of the late Arthur and Susie Ober
Beasley, 1946 graduate of Ozone School, widow of Sam O. Warren, and retired
from business in 1980.
She was preceded in death by four siblings, Quinton Beasley, Mildred
Casey, Edra Cox and Bertie Cox of Johnson County.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Warren of Belfair, Wash., and Bart Warren
of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; two daughters, Leah Sperl of Purdy and Lesia Stice
of Vancouver, Wash.; two adopted daughters, Sammy Warren of Belfair, Wash.,
and Gail Rhodes of Clarksville; one sister, Nedra Thompson of Lonoke; 14
grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Laurence Edward Nauman Jr., 73, of Ozark died Monday, April 28, 2003,
at his home.
He was a native of Douglas, Wyo., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Laurence
(Mable Wigent) Nauman Sr., rancher, Methodist, and was employed in crushing
and paving construction.
Survivors include his widow, Ethel Fawcett Nauman; five daughters, Amy
Garner of Arizona, Kay Weinland and Ginny Latham, both of Colorado, Susy Crumm
of Wyoming, and Lynne Gayle of Idaho; three sons, Bud Nauman, Mickey Nauman,
and Mike Nauman, all of Wyoming; one sister, Helen Ball of Colorado; 24 grandchildren;
and numerous great-grandchildren.
Robert Eugene Baskin, 90, of Clarksville died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired service technician for the poultry industry, member of
the Harmony Presbyterian Church, son of the late James Randolph and Lizzie
Mae Basham Baskin, and was preceded in death by one sister, Lottie Marie Baskin
Bean; and two brothers, John Pierce Baskin and David Kenneth Baskin.
Survivors include his widow of 66 years, Regna (Pat) Wofford Baskin; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Jan E. and Lance Spanke and Debby K. and James
R. Dickerson, all of Clarksville; five grandchildren and spouses, David Lance
and Lori (Patterson) Spanke II, Tabitha Rachelle (Frala) and Clifford Hoyt,
Heather Lynn (Frala) Brady, Robert Eugene and Marlina Lindsey Spanke, and
Stephanie Laine Spanke Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Gage Edmond Hoyt,

Roger W. James, 58, of Fayetteville, husband of the former Sharon Pazdera
of Clarksville, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Northwest Nursing Center in
Fayetteville.
He was a native of Kansas City, Mo., son of the late Wylton E. and Marjorie
Phyllis Fox James, grandson of the late Rev. Ralph and Marguerite Fox of
Gentry, graduate of Lincoln High School and the University of the Ozarks
in Clarksville, former resident of Ozark, where he was a past president of
the Rotary Club and an ordained elder at the First Presbyterian Church. He
was employed for 20 years with Cargill as regional sales manager and later
worked as a truck broker with Vouk Truck Brokerage.
Other than his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Casey (Tara)
Wilkins of Coppell, Texas; one granddaughter, Dillon Wilkins of Coppell, Texas;
two nephews; and three great-nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Beard's Funeral Chapel with
Rev. Peter Kimball officiating.
Sedric Horner (Pete) Epperson, 78, of Hartman died Thursday, May 1, 2003,
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired Ford Lumber Company employee, Army veteran, member of
the Assembly of God Church, Mason, son of the late W. C. and Myrtle Farley
Epperson, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Westover and Emmy
Cline; and one brother, James Epperson.
Survivors include his widow, Inez Morrow Epperson; five daughters, Janet
Burton of Hartman, Judy Handley of Clarksville, Marsha Ragsdale of London,
Teresa Carlisle of Coal Hill, and Pam Musgrove of Ponca City, Okla.; four
sons, Floyd Gene Epperson of North Carolina, Jamie Epperson of Clarksville,
Joe Epperson of Fort Smith, and Jody Epperson of the home; three brothers,
Jack Epperson of Hartman, Bill Epperson of San Diego, Calif., and Benny Epperson
of Florida; 27 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Sara Jane Meeler, 64, of Altus died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Alix, daughter of the late Cecil Wathern, and a registered
nurse.
She is survived by three daughters, Debbie Holman of Altus, Tammy Bohannon
of Coal Hill and Jamie Edgar of Alix; mother, Claudia Higdon Wathern of Alix;
four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
