Nicolas Elijah Willis, seven-day-old son of Robert Anthony and Anna
May Smith Willis of Springfield, Mo., died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in
Springfield, Mo.
Other survivors are twin brother, Nathan Elisha Willis; grandparents,
George and Jeannett Willis of Lamar and Willie and Shelly Smith of Clarksville;
great-grandparents, Denver and Violet Willis of Batson and Gene and Juanita
Hardin of Clarksville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, at the Sherrellville Cemetery at Batson with Rev. Walter Brashear officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Nathan Elisha Willis, 11-day-old son of Robert Anthony and Anna May
Smith Willis of Springfield, Mo., died Sunday, July 14, 2002, in Springfield,
Mo.
He was preceded in death by twin brother, Nicolas Elijah Willis, on
July 10, 2002.
Other survivors are grandparents George and Jeannett Willis of Lamar
and Willie and Shelly Smith of Clarksville; great-grandparents, Denver
and Violet Willis of Batson and Gene and Juanita Hardin of Clarksville;
and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the Sherrellville Cemetery at Batson with Rev. Walter Brashear officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Olen Payne, 80, of Danville, whose son and daughter-in-law, John Robert
and Brenda Payne, reside in Clarksville, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at
Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
He was a native of Stafford in Yell County and son of the late Delmer
and Cora Ann White Payne. He retired after 24 years as the Yell County
Tax Assessor, was the Yell County veteran service officer for 30-plus years,
member of the Danville Lions Club for 39 years, the Yell County Equalization
Board, the United Methodist Church for 39 years and was past chairman of
the administrative board and a former Sunday school teacher. He was a World
War II Army Air Corps veteran, member of Fisher-Law VFW Post 8525 in Plainview,
a 33rd degree Mason, member of Danville Lodge No. 41 and Christian Lodge
No. 394 in Belleville, served as past district deputy grand master and
in 1999 was the recipient of the Grand Lodge Medal of Honor which is given
to only one member each year. He was past patron of the Danville Chapter
of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Council Oaks Order of
Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, and the River Valley York Rite Bodies, and
a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Odell Payne, Leemon Payne,
C. J. Payne, and William Hoyt Payne; and one granddaughter, Cynthia Payne.
Survivors include his widow, Etta Vee Laster Payne; one other son and
daughter-in-law, Jerry and JoAnn Payne of Belleville; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Ronnie Buckner of Greenwood and Linda and Rodney
Parham of Branson, Mo.; one brother, Thurman Payne of Belleville; one sister,
Ann Morris of Fayetteville; mother-in-law, Neva Laster of Danville; five
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the First Baptist Church
in Danville with Rev. David Hawkins officiating.
Burial was in Russell Cemetery with Masonic rites and full military
honors by Boyce-Woods Post 3141. Arrangements were under the direction
of Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.
Active pallbearers were James Rogers, Lance Wilkins, Joe Monroe, Tommy
May, Pledger Ball, Brad Payne, Jamie Payne, and Joey Payne.
Honorary pallbearers were Mason and VFW members.

Patricia A. Mattas, 40, of Knoxville died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, from
injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 64 in Knoxville.
She was a nurse.
Survivors are two sons, Raul Rios of Clarksville and Jamie Rios of Knoxville;
parents, Thomas Patrick Mattas of Mt. Clemens, Mich., and Betty Jo McCartney
of New Haven, Mich.; one sister, Debra Mayek of Hudson, Wis.; three brothers,
Timothy Mattas of Port Huron, Mich., and David Mattas and Jeremy McCartney,
both of Altus; one grandchild, Baylee Adison Rios; and fiance, Nolden Thrift
of Knoxville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Mark Soucy officiating.
Roy D. Callaham, 67, of Lamar died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
He was a disabled Navy veteran, son of the late James A. and Nora Mae
Crotts Callaham, and was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Callaham;
one stepson, Anthony G. Ross; three sisters, Viola P. Zahn, Irma Hendrixson,
and Billie Jean Martin; and one brother, Leon Callaham.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Steve
Snodgrass and Valarie and Ronnie Grover, all of Lamar, and Judi and Phillip
Conway of Vilonia; two stepdaughters and spouses, Teresia and Darrell Wadley
of Lamar and Sydney and Bill Case of Knoxville; one stepson and spouse,
Bill and Cindy Ross of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Izola Drittler of Lamar
and Betty Peterson of Oark; one brother, Vincent Callaham of Dewitt; 11
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, at Lamar Baptist Church with
Rev. Clyde Vire officiating.
Burial was in Lamar Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral
Home.
Active pallbearers were Steve Snodgrass, Phillip Conway, Roy Callaham
Jr., Garry Garrison Sr., Ronnie Grover, and Wesley Snodgrass.
Honorary pallbearers were Darrell Wadley, Jason Wadley, Mike Berg, Bill Case, Bill Ross, Bob Duff, and Faith Full Gospel.
