Billy Gene Hobgood, 72, of Clarksville died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at
the Veterans Hospital in Little Rock.
He was retired from the military, Army veteran of the Korean War, Baptist,
and son of the late C. D. and Littie Redding Hobgood.
Survivors include his widow, Rose Marie Meek Hobgood; one daughter,
Jeanie Marie Hobgood of Fayetteville; one son, Timathy Hobgood of Spring
Boro, Ohio; one brother, Troy Hobgood of Hot Springs; three grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev.
Robbie Jackson officiating. Burial with military honors was at Lamar Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Charles Wharton, Nathan Lewis, Roger Funk, Roy
Shook, Larry Morgan, and Marc Lawrence.
Honorary pallbearer was Troy Hobgood.
Clifford Freeman Akins, 72, of Hartman died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001,
at Russellville Nursing Center.
He was a retired cattle farmer, member of the Eagle Heights Baptist
Church in Harrison, Army veteran of the Korean War, son of the late Braxton
and Mattie Burns Akins, and was preceded in death by one brother, Albert
Akins.
Survivors include his widow, Delouris Akins; three daughters, Freda
Shipman of Jasper, Greta Akins of Clarksville, and Mrs. Gary (Shawn) Finch
of Greenbrier; one sister, Mildred Wheat of Texas; three brothers, Fred,
H. C., and Leroy Akins, all of Texas; and three grandchildren, Leslie Wilson,
David Shipman, and Timmy Shipman.
Funeral and burial will be in Texas.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Edwin William Mills Sr., 73, of Sumner, Texas, died Thursday, Oct. 11,
2001, in Paris, Texas.
He owned a concrete business in Paris, Texas, where he also operated
a ranch.
Survivors include his widow, Willie Kathryn Bell Mills, formerly of
Hartman; one son, Edwin Mills Jr. of Paris, Texas; one sister, Emily Striebeck
of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel in Paris, Texas. Burial
was in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 16, with
full military honors.
Members of the Tigertown Masonic Lodge served as honorary pallbearers
and conducted Masonic services.
Memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospitals or to the Shrine Hospitals.
Iva Crowder, 85, of North Little Rock, widow of George Russell Crowder
Sr., died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001.
She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ed and Betty
Crowder of Lamar, George and Carla Crowder of Sherwood, Don and Bernice
Blasius of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Jay Blasius of Downey, Calif.; one
daughter and son-in-law, Cathie and Mike Seibold of Plano, Texas; one sister,
Alta Croft of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at North Little Rock Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Sewell officiating. Burial will follow at
4 p.m. at Lamar Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Baptist Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.
Jimmy L. Jones, 55, of Scranton died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Scranton.
He was an electrician operator for a substation for Southern Cal Edison,
a Protestant, and son of the late F. F. and Gladys Anthony Jones.
He is survived by two daughters, Carrie Summers of Scranton and Jamie
Hobson of Fort Smith; one sister, Joyce Dotson of Nipomo, Calif.; two brothers,
F. D. Jones of Paris and Jerry Jones of Ojai, Calif.; three grandchildren,
Cole Koch, and Joshua and Jayci Hubson; and three stepgrandchildren, Nick,
Clinton, and Kelsie Summers.
A memorial service was held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the home of Carrie Summers. The body was cremated. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
Lois Miller, 80, of Hartman died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, in a Fort Smith
hospital.
A native of Hartman, she was a daughter of the late Burt and Nellie
Linton Morris, former waitress in California and former employee of Cass
Job Corp, retired employee of the Fort Smith Girl's Shelter, member of
Hartman Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy Lou
Bridges and Earl Dean Ingram.
Survivors include her husband, Donald (Rip) Miller; one son and daughter-in-law,
Duel and Judy Miller of Hartman; two sisters, Sharon Trout of Oklahoma
and Mary Hembree of Van Buren; three brothers, Larry Hurst of Clarksville,
and Ewell Morris and Leo Morris, both of Fort Smith; grandchildren, Michelle
and Mike Ruffaner and Valerie and Brandon McDaniels, all of Clarksville,
Jason Ingram and Sabrina Ingram, both of Austin, Texas, and Sean Ingram
of Atkins; stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Thomas and Allen Holt, both of Clarksville;
and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel
in Ozark with burial in the National Cemetery at Fort Smith.
Rufus Bartlett, 99, of Hartman died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
A native of Hartman, he was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and
Anna Green Bartlett, member of the Coal Hill Church of Christ, a Democratic
committeeman for Lee Township for many years, retired cattleman, farmer
and was employed by Robert Teddar Grocery, Dewey Vardaman Grocery, F. Q.
Poynor Grocery and OK Food Market as a meat cutter for 70-plus years. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Rusk Bartlett.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Wilda and Robert Chrisman
of Ozark; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Verda Bartlett of Clarksville;
six grandchildren, Robert Bartlett II, Linda Betnar and Janet Hilton, all
of Clarksville, and Debra Wofford, Michael Chrisman and Scott Chrisman,
all of Ozark; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Clarksville Church
of Christ with Mike Eppinette officiating.
Burial will be in Kendall Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke
Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Robert Bartlett II, Michael Chrisman, Scott Chrisman, Robert Wofford, Tim Hilton, and Danny Betnar.
